Singularity is a metaphor taken from physics by Ray Kurzweil, founder of Singularity University, to describe the technological process that will come to merge the human with technology. Therefore, the University of Singularity aims to prepare leaders to apply exponential technologies to respond adequately to the anthropological, social, ecological changes that the technologized world requires.
This is an objective that it is carrying out well of course, given that world leading transhumanist executives and researchers come out of it, and that some of them then join the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), one of the most important research universities in the world; the DARPA, a government agency of the US Department of Defence for the development of new military technology; Google; Microsoft, to name but a few…
Surely the fact that it is in Silicon Valley, on a piece of land of the NASA, and being partly financed by Google, is a further confirmation of how much the idea of the world it is proposing is shared with those who create and cause the conditions of the ecological and social disaster we find ourselves in. To this disaster then one would like to find a “solution”, putting something into it.
But there’s nothing to worry about! The thing seems to have been found and is an artificial and robotized thing. In fact through the use of technology is thought to be able to deal with what in this conference they call “the great challenges of humanity”: we are assured of the possibility of a radiant future. A future in response to the fear of death and the desire for immortality, promises of cures for diseases, the absorption of pollutants from the environment, the defeat of poverty and famine.
This fabulous prospect must, however, be bartered and the complete acceptance of this technologized world is being asked in exchange.
Declaring that they are responding to the desire for a better life free from suffering and limits, the transhumanists are planning an artificial, computerized, robotized, engineered and nano technological world.
But we mustn’t fall into this facile trap: more technology has not brought and will never bring more freedom and happiness but rather, it brings the exact opposite. These technologies, as a tool of power can only lead to the maintenance and growth of the latter and to an ever greater pervasiveness and manipulation of bodies. The singularity is not just the creation of super intelligent machines: it is above all the birth of a new totalitarian regime where humans dominate other living beings and the surrounding world by means of new technologies. A regime where the human being, now sure of being able to manipulate what surrounds him according to his needs, may imagine that they are free while chasing their dream of perfection, enhancing and deleting every physical boundary and limit to give birth to the Cyborg.
In this world, bodies, natural elements, are no longer an unavailable foundation but become usable, manipulable, improvable. The Singularity that is being promoted by these technoscientists does not correspond to uniqueness, the singularity of the individual, but to uniformity and homologation, fruit of technological development.
A techno-science guru has issued a warning to his disciples, which could be extended to opponents: “Don’t stay away in the face of Singularity, you have the possibility to manage your efforts at the point of greatest impact, the beginning.”
Let’s struggle against these processes and this techno-world, feel the urgency, before it’s too late.

La Singolarità è una metafora presa dalla fisica da Ray Kurzweil, fondatore della Sigularity University, per descrivere il processo tecnologico che arriverà a fondere l’umano con la tecnologia. Dunque, l’Università della Singolarità si pone come obiettivo quello di preparare i leader ad applicare tecnologie esponenziali per rispondere adeguatamente ai cambiamenti antropologici, sociali, ecologici che il mondo tecnologizzato richiede.
Un obiettivo che, evidentemente, porta avanti egregiamente dal momento che, dalle sue porte, escono i maggiori dirigenti e ricercatori transumanisti mondiali e che alcuni di loro confluiscono poi al MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), una delle più importanti università di ricerca al mondo; nella DARPA, una agenzia governativa del Dipartimento della Difesa degli Stati Uniti per lo sviluppo di nuove tecnologie per uso militare; in Google; in Microsoft, solo per citarne alcune…
Sicuramente il fatto che si trovi nella Silicon Valley, su un terreno della NASA, e che abbia Google tra i suoi maggiori finanziatori, è un’ulteriore conferma di quanto l’idea di mondo che propone sia condivisa con chi crea e fa sì che vengano perpetuate le condizioni del disastro ecologico e sociale in cui ci troviamo. A questo disastro poi si vorrebbe trovare una “soluzione”, mettendoci una pezza.
Ma non c’è nulla di cui preoccuparsi! La pezza pare sia stata trovata ed è una pezza artificiale e robotizzata. Infatti attraverso l’impiego della tecnologia si pensa di poter affrontare quelle che in questo convegno chiamano “le grandi sfide dell’umanità”: ci viene assicurata la possibilità di un futuro radioso. Un futuro che, in risposta alla paura della morte e al desiderio d’immortalità, promette la cura delle malattie, l’assorbimento degli inquinanti dall’ambiente, la sconfitta della povertà e delle carestie.
Questa favolosa prospettiva va però barattata e, in cambio, si richiede la completa accettazione di questo mondo tecnologizzato.
Dichiarando di rispondere al desiderio di una vita migliore e libera dalla sofferenza e dal limite, i transumanisti stanno progettando un mondo artificiale, informatizzato, robotizzato, ingegnerizzato e nano tecnologico.
Ma non bisogna cadere in questo facile tranello: più tecnologia non ha portato e non porterà maggiore libertà e felicità ma anzi, porta all’esatto contrario. Queste tecnologie in quanto strumento di potere non possono portare ad altro che al mantenimento e all’accrescimento di quest’ultimo e a una sempre maggiore pervasività e manipolazione dei corpi. La singolarità non è solo la creazione di macchine super intelligenti: è prima di tutto la nascita di un nuovo regime totalitario dove umani dominano sugli altri esseri viventi e sul mondo circostante per mezzo delle nuove tecnologie. Un regime dove l’essere umano, ormai sicuro di poter manipolare ciò che lo circonda secondo le proprie esigenze, può illudersi di essere libero rincorrendo il suo sogno di
perfezione, potenziandosi e cancellando ogni confine e ogni limite fisico per dare vita al Cyborg.
In questo mondo i corpi, gli elementi naturali, non costituiscono più un fondamento indisponibile ma divengono fruibili, manipolabili, migliorabili. La Singolarità che ci viene propinata da questi tecnoscienziati non corrisponde all’unicità, alla singolarità dell’individuo, bensì all’uniformità e alla omologazione frutto dello sviluppo tecnologico.
Un guru delle tecnoscienze ha lanciato un avvertimento ai suoi fedeli che si potrebbe estendere agli oppositori: “Non state da parte di fronte alla Singularity, avete la possibilità di dirigere il vostro sforzo nel punto di maggior impatto, l’inizio”.
Lottiamo contro questi processi e questo tecno-mondo, sentendone l’urgenza, prima che sia troppo tardi.
