The Celebes Sea (Indonesian: Laut Sulawesi, Tagalog: Dagat Selebes) of the western Pacific Ocean is bordered on the north by the Sulu Archipelago and Sulu Sea and Mindanao Island of the Philippines, on the east by the Sangihe Islands chain, on the south by Sulawesi's Minahassa Peninsula, and on the west by Kalimantan in Indonesia. It extends 420 miles (675 km) north-south by 520 miles (837 km) east-west and has a total surface area of 110,000 square miles (280,000 km2), to a maximum depth of 20,300 feet (6,200 m). The sea opens southwest through the Makassar Strait into the Java Sea.
The Celebes Sea is a piece of an ancient ocean basin that formed 42 million years ago in a locale removed from any landmass. By 20 million years ago, earth crust movement had moved the basin close enough to the Indonesian and Philippine volcanoes to receive emitted debris. By 10 million years ago the Celebes Sea was inundated with continental debris, including coal, which was shed from a growing young mountain on Borneo and the basin had docked against Eurasia.
A pom-pom – also spelled pom-pon, pompom or pompon – is a loose, fluffy, decorative ball or tuft of fibrous material. Pom-poms may come in many colors, sizes, and varieties and are made from a wide array of materials, including wool, cotton, paper, plastic, and occasionally feathers. Pom-poms are shaken by cheerleaders, pom or dance teams, and sports fans during spectator sports. Small decorative pom-poms may be attached to clothing; these are sometimes called toories or bobbles.
Pom-pom is derived from the French word pompon, which refers to a small decorative ball made of fabric or feathers.

BSAC Pro Underwater Videography Course Documentary Internship. Celebes Beach Resort, Pom Pom Island, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. 22nd - 30th October, 2014 Locations: Pandanan, Mataking, Bohey Dulang & Pom Pom Islands
I traveled to Pom Pom Island (Borneo Malaysia, Celebes Sea Region) in October 2013 to take an underwater videography course offered by Oceans Below out of Koh Toh ,Thailand. The course lasted 16 days and included lots of diving and video shooting underwater and hours and hours of post -production work with Adobe Premiere Pro. I learned a lot about how to improve my video shots and the importance of different camera angles and composition. The most time consuming and difficult part for me was the post production editing, color correction and setting it to music. This video represents 3 minutes of what I determined was some of my best snippets from hours and hours of video clips that I took on my first 9 days. I hope you enjoy the video. Happy Diving!

A gem of a dive site in the Celebes Sea Sabah Malaysia both Mabul and Sipadan Islands have high quality diving on offer. Diving White Tip Avenue Sipadan on April 11 2017, we encountered a curious whale shark at 32m who was willing to play. One surface interval later and a move to Barracuda Point... another encounter with our spotted friend.
The clips were shot during several dives on the reefs of Sipadan, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia in the Celebes Sea, shared with the Philippines and Indonesia. Most dramatic were the swirling schools of fish (jacks), but bumphead parrotfish, barracuda, turtles and sharks were also present. Imagery by Brenda S. and R. Duncan Kirkby.

About Philippines and downloads here: http://philippinestravelsite.com/about/ About this weeks episode: Scattered throughout the Sulu and Celebes seas just like emerald gems, this small archipelagic province at the southern part of the Philippines was tainted with bad reputation through the years along with its neighboring provinces (Sulu, Basilan and also the whole Zamboanga Peninsula) because of ill-fated Moro raids, plus some outbreak of violence by extortionists. Anyway, do not worry when visiting the place. Nonetheless, it was more decisive to see what treasures Tawi-tawi offers. In this documentary we travel to Indonesia, the Sulawesi island, there we know the Toraja and Bajau, two ethnic groups who have a very particular culture and traditions. There, we attended a Toraja funeral, an event that they have become an amazing ritual of several days. We dive into the wonderful world that lies behind the coral reef that runs through large part of the Indonesian archipelago. The coasts of the relatively small ocean, are home to inhabitants with a colourful culture and abundant animal life invites nature lovers for a visit. The island of Omadal is home of the Bajau. This nomadic tribe lives on wooden vessels or ashore in pile-dwellings. Harvesting seaweed generates them the money that is needed to buy all other goods on the market.
