It’s the first Xur of Destiny 2 and with that comes more anticipation than has surrounded the Agent of the Nine in quite some time. For those that might not be familiar with Xur, he shows up in a random spot on any destination and offers exotic items in exchange for legendary shards. At the start, he will offer one exotic weapon and one exotic armor piece per class for three in total.

Xur Location

This week, Destiny 2 players can find Xur on the planet Nessus, in the Watcher’s Grave region. However, though many thought it would be hard to find Xur given that he could hide on four patrol areas, Bungie has eliminated that hunt this time around. Instead Xur shows up on the map as an icon, and player’s can target him by tracking his objective.

For what it’s worth, Xur is hiding up in a tree, which is a cool spot. It’s just a shame that players didn’t have to spend any time looking for him.

Exotic Armor Recommendations

As far as Xur’s inventory is concerned, he came out swinging with some essential options. For Titans, there are the Doom Fang Pauldrons gauntlets, which are fun to use if you are a Sentinel subclass fan. While using the Doom Fang players charge their shield throw faster, making them feel even more like Captain America.

The Hunter exotic armor is the Raiden Flux chest piece, which keeps the Arcstrider super active for longer if the player is continually attacking targets. It’s a good chest piece for sustained damage on a group of enemies or a single boss, like when the Nightfall Strike switches to ‘Arc Burn.’

And finally, the Warlock exotic is the Wings of Sacred Dawn chest piece. This exotic armor piece lets Dawnblade Warlocks hover in the air while aiming down sights and extends the hover duration any time the player gets a precision hit. In Destiny 1, Sunsinger Warlocks had a perk that allowed them to hover, but with Sunsinger gone this armor piece adds that ability back with the addition of the time extension.

Xur’s Exotic Weapon

But the real gem of Xur’s inventory this week is Merciless, an exotic fusion rifle. This is easily one of the top 5 best exotic weapons in Destiny 2, if not the best overall. As long as the fusion rifle doesn’t get a kill, it fires faster and faster for great sustained damage in a short amount of time. Armored elites or raid bosses will melt against Merciless.

Given that we haven’t seen all that Destiny 2 has to offer, we won’t go so far as to compare this Merciless sale to the Gjallarhorn sale of Destiny 1’s second week but players are STRONGLY encouraged to buy the gun. You don’t want to be the guy in a raid group who is chastised for passing on it.

For a full rundown of Xur’s items and prices see the list below:

  • Doom Fang Pauldrons (Titan Gauntlets) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Raiden Flux (Hunter Chest Piece) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Wings of Sacred Dawn (Warlock Chest Piece) – 23 Legendary Shards
  • Merciless (Fusion Rifle) – 29 Legendary Shards

Overall, it is a solid start for Xur for a few reasons. Yes, we know that his exotic armor is the same that is offered as one of three choices in the campaign, but not every took these pieces. Not to mention, this armor is at 270 power level, which is above the soft cap. And then there is Merciless, which, in case we didn’t stress enough before, you must buy.

Destiny 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One, and releases October 24 for PC.
