John Nicholas "Dick" Foran (June 18, 1910 – August 10, 1979) was an American actor, known for his performances in western musicals and for playing supporting roles in dramatic pictures.
Foran was born in Flemington, New Jersey, the first of five sons to Arthur F. and Elizabeth Foran. His father Arthur F. Foran was a Republican member of the New Jersey Senate, as was Dick Foran's younger brother, Walter E. Foran. After graduation he attended the Hun School, a college preparatory school in nearby Princeton, and then enrolled at Princeton University, pursuing a degree in geology. He played on the football team while taking courses in the arts, where he developed an interest in the theater.
Foran studied music at the Leibling Studio in New York before singing on radio. After becoming a lead singer in a band and later forming his own orchestra, Foran, who stood 6-foot-2 and had red hair, was hired by Warner Bros. as a supporting actor. He would also croon when called upon in films such as Change of Heart (1934) with Janet Gaynor, made for Fox Film Corporation. His handsome appearance and good-natured personality made him a natural choice for the supporting cast. He first appeared as a singing cowboy in his first starring role, in Moonlight on the Prairie (1935). Other singing cowboy features included Song of the Saddle (1936), Guns of the Pecos (1937), Empty Holsters (1937) and Cowboy from Brooklyn (1938).
A clip from the movie: Cherokee Strip (Warners, 1937), where a sleeping Tommy Bupp is sung to by cowboy star Dick Foran. Foran croons a tune called "My Little Buckaroo" to Bupp, and the song became a hit.

Theatrical trailer for the 1940 serial, WINNERS OF THE WEST, starring Dick Foran, Anne Nagel, Harry Woods and James Craig. Built largely around footage from earlier Johnny Mack Brown serials, WINNERS OF THE WEST comes off surprisingly well thanks to a cast of competent performers, acceptable scripting and ample use of selections from the DESTRY RIDES AGAIN (1939) musical score. Universal would mine this score again and again for its Johnny Mack Brown westerns. Subscribe to Captbijou's channel!! More vintage videos are added almost daily!! Dick Foran (1910-1979) was nothing if not versatile! From a radio singer in the early crooner style, to singing cowboy roles in many westerns, he also tackled Broadway in Rodgers and Hart's A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court. In the 1943 revival. Foran reminds me a great deal of Nelson Eddy, and he was certainly as believable as a singing cowboy as Eddy was as a Canadian Mountie! This is a particularly beautiful song, which Foran singers very nicely indeed.

This the infamous 1943 recording of the "Castration of the Strawberry Roan" by the Sons of the Pioneers. This was recorded while the Sons of the Pioneers were doing their Dr. Pepper Radio stint. The lead voice is Dick Foran with backup from the Pioneers (the Dr. Pepper crew). Text of the song below: The Strawberry Roan [Horse whinnies and then farts. Someone yells "Whoa!"] I was hanging 'round town In a house of ill fame Laying up with a twister Of hustling dame When a hop-headed pimp With his nose full of coke Beat me out of the girl And left me stone-broke When a stranger walked in Said he, "Say, my lad Are you any good riding Horses that's bad?" Said I, "You damn right That's one thing I can do I'm a second rate pimp But a good buckaroo. "Bring on your bad...

Trailer for the 1937 western, GUNS OF THE PECOS, starring Dick Foran, Anne Nagel, Gordon Hart and Eddie Acuff. New Jersey-born, Princeton-educated Dick Foran (birth name John Nicholas Foran) pursued a geology degree and athletics while in college, where he also developed an interest in the theatre. After working baoard a sea freighter and as a special investigator for the Pennsylvania Railroad, he made his way to Holltywood. Bleesed with a pleasant singing voice, he earned his living as a big band vocalist and appeared in small singing roles in films. This lead to a contact with Warner Brothers in 1934 where Foran appeared mainly in supporting roles. Noting the popularity of "singing cowboy" star, Gene Autry, Warners cast Foran in a series of westerns and billing him as "The Singing Co...

Esse seu olhar
Quando encontra o meu
Fala de umas coisas
Que eu nem posso acreditar
Doce é sonhar, é pensar que você
Gosta de mim
Como eu de você
Mas a ilusão
Quando se desfaz
Dói no coração
De quem sonhou, sonhou demais
Ah, se eu pudesse entender
O que dizem os seus olhos
