The 69th Annual Emmys was last night, and we all know you watched the red carpet but then just checked Twitter for news – the Oscars were dramatic enough, we’re all still a little scarred. In case you live under a rock and haven’t heard the news: the Emmys went pretty well, and considering we’re living in practically apocalyptic times, it was a nice reality break. Celebrities even honored the Dream Act by wearing blue ribbons. Also, from now on we’ll all be referring to RuPaul as...
The Broad City season 3 finale, “Jews on a Plane,” left us with Abbi and Ilana being tackled to the ground and accused of terrorism on an Israel-bound plane. In reality, Abbi unexpectedly got her period and Ilana attempted to discreetly crowdsource for a light-flow tampon. (Now we know who uses those.) But in season 4, we have no idea if they’re alive. If they got deported back to the United States. If their bags got lost. Or if they're enjoying their Birthmark trip. That’s because the...
BUST’s current cover gal, Gina Rodriguez of Jane the Virgin, is continuing to speak out for immigrant rights — this time by producing a new TV series about undocumented immigrants. Titled Illegal, it’s an hourlong dramedy that will air on the CW. Illegal will tell the story of a teenager who was brought to the US as a child, and his family, writes Deadline. It's based on the real-life series of Jane the Virgin writer Rafael Agustin, who was born in Ecuador, grew up in American,...
No one can rock both a suit and a ballgown better than the iconic RuPaul. But one of her other many talents is dishing out absolutely pitch perfect life advice. As host of RuPaul's Drag Race, she has been a mentor for drag queens and idol for just about everyone. And for this, RuPaul won her second consecutive Emmy for hosting Drag Race! In honor of the Emmy win, here are ten inspiring and uplifting quotes from the queen of queens herself. “True wealth is having the knowledge...
Ah, the ‘90s. What a magical time for children’s television, back when leaving the kids alone for hours on end in front of the TV was completely acceptable, and anthropomorphic aardvarks were everybody’s favourite animal. This week, the current trend of endless reboots and sequels has struck us right in the feels once again, with the trailer for Netflix’s The Magic School Bus Rides Again released on Twitter to mixed emotions. The original Ms. Frizzle, voiced by Lily Tomlin, apparently has a hip younger sister, who...
I sat down with Emmett J. Lundberg, the creator and protagonist of Brothers, a web series following the lives of four trans men, and his producer Sheyam Ghieth, to talk about the process and the effect of creating the first show centered around trans men. Emmett and Sheyam launched the pilot in June of 2014 on YouTube. A year later, Amazon offered to distribute the series on their site. It has been a success thus far and they are currently raising funds in order to get...
The Twin Peaks revival has been everything dreamt of... and then some. Sure, some of the episodes barely resembled the original show and took place hundreds of miles from Washington state, but they’ve been equal parts incredibly weird and engaging, with gorgeous cinematography, giddy cameos and new players (shout out to Laura Dern and her portrayal of kween Diane), and a winding plot that was so David Lynch, we’re surprised it didn’t implode unto itself. And now that the finale upon us, we’re a bit bummed....

The most romantic gift: Waffles Yep:   Buying a waffle sundae: Eating that waffle sundae: Showing JJ's Diner's waffles some...
Poptarts is a twice-monthly podcast hosted by BUST Magazine editors Emily Rems and Callie Watts that celebrates women in pop culture. The first half of each episode is devoted to a hot topic in entertainment, and in the second half, a segment called "Whatcha Watchin'?," Callie and Emily dig into all the shows, movies, books, music, videos, and podcasts they've enjoyed since the last episode, and either praise or pan each experience. In our latest episode, Julie Klausner, Difficult People's hilarious mastermind, shares her insights as a feminist media maker and...

As a straightish, cisgender female navigating an open relationship for over ten years, I find it rare when a piece of media portrays plural love in a way that’s not the butt of a joke. So imagine my surprise when a 30-minute dramedy called (yes, literally) I Love Dick helped clarify some concepts I’d long considered, but never quite articulated, about my own nontraditional, not-entirely-monogamous relationship. The Amazon show (created by Jill Soloway and based on the cult feminist novel of the late ‘90s of the...
