Puebla
Puebla (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈpweβla]), officially Free and Sovereign State of Puebla (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Puebla) is one of the 31 states which, with the Federal District, comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided in 217 municipalities and its capital city is Puebla.
It is located in East-Central Mexico. It is bordered by the states of Veracruz to the north and east, Hidalgo, México, Tlaxcala and Morelos to the west, and Guerrero and Oaxaca to the south.
The origins of the state lie in the city of Puebla, which was founded by the Spanish in this valley in 1531 to secure the trade route between Mexico City and the port of Veracruz.
By the end of the 18th century, the area had become a colonial province with its own governor, which would become the State of Puebla, after the Mexican War of Independence in the early 19th century. Since that time the area, especially around the capital city, has continued to grow economically, mostly through industry, despite being the scene of a number of battles, the most notable of which being the Battle of Puebla. Today, the state is one of the most industrialized in the country, but since most of its development is concentrated in Puebla and other cities, many of its rural areas are very poor, forcing many to migrate away to places such as Mexico City and the United States.

Puebla Travel Video - Once a bastion of conservatism, Catholicism and tradition, Puebla has come out of its colonial-era shell in recent years. The city retains a fantastically well-preserved center, a stunning cathedral and a wealth of beautiful churches, while younger poblanos (people from Puebla) are embracing the citys increasingly thriving art and nightlife scenes. The city is well worth a visit, with 70 churches in the historic center alone, more than a thousand colonial buildings adorned with the azulejos (painted ceramic tiles) for which the city is famous, and a long culinary history that can be explored in any restaurant or food stall. We catch an Uber out to Cholula, a nearby university town which houses the Great Pyramid of Cholula. It is the largest monument ever built by any civilisation. Throughout the Centro Histórico district, over 1500 heritage buildings vie for your attention. The streets of this district overflow with museums and galleries. For a window into the life and color of yesteryear, visit the fabulous Museo Franz Mayer.
For a change of color, head to Chapultepec Park, one of the largest urban parks in the world. The park is home to cultural institutions such as the Auditorio Nacional and the Museum of Anthropology, as well as the popular Chapultepec Zoo.
Pay your respects to the Niños Heroes, a monument which honors the six boy soldiers who gave their lives defending Castillo de Chapultepec. Today, the castle serves as the National Museum of History.
Just to the north is Nuevo Polanco, a former warehouse area rapidly being transformed by new architectural visions, such as the Museo Soumaya and Museo Jumex.
To the south of the city is Coyoacán. In the early 20th century the district’s artists, writers and intellectuals inspired not only Mexico, but the entire world. Visit The Blue House, the birthplace of Frieda Kahlo, and the Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo, where these two giants of Mexican art worked, lived and loved.
Just to the south are the incredible murals and buildings of Ciudad Universitaria, which, when constructed in the 1950s, was the city’s largest single building project since the time of the Aztecs.
The spirit of bohemia continues amid the sophisticated hues and beauty of districts such as Roma and Condesa. At Xochimilco, simply float away on a riot of color on the last of the city’s Aztec canals.
In Mexico City there is color everywhere, and once you experience it, your memories will never fade.

Chasing a Plate is in Puebla, Mexico! One of the things to do in Puebla Mexico is to visit the Great Pyramid of Cholula. We catch an Uber out to Cholula, a nearby university town which houses the Great Pyramid of Cholula. It is the largest monument ever built by any civilisation. On the top of the the Great Pyramid is a church which the Spaniards built, not realising the structure was a pyramid.
Once back in Puebla we got on to trying Mexican food. We visit sweet street where we buy camotes and tostitas. These candies originate from Puebla and were made by the nuns in Puebla. For dinner we sample the famous Mole Poblano at La Mexicana (3 Poniente No. 316 Colonia Centro, Puebla 72000). It is definitely one of the things to do in Puebla and totally worth it- it's delicious!
