Anti-Semitism and Socialism A Reply to Gorelick
Letter: David Finkel Winter 2008AS FAR AS CAN BE DISCERNED from Sherry Gorelick's review of Mario Kessler's On Anti-Semitism and Socialism (New Politics, No. 43, Summer 2007), neither Professor Gorelick nor Kessler appear to be aware of two essential sources on the subject, which I would like to bring to readers' attention.
Bizarre Assertions
Letter: Bennett Muraskin and John Halle Summer 2013I read New Politics because it provides an in depth socialist perspective on politics available nowhere else, but some of your contributors make bizarre assertions.
Chomsky and Anarchism: Reply
Letter: George Fish Winter 2011Seth Farber’s response to my "Chomsky, Anarchism, and Socialism" (Summer 2010 New Politics) places a very heavy burden on what is a book review, not a major study of Chomsky’s political thought. As such, I believe it does exactly what a book review should: give a basic outline of the book being reviewed, assess its strengths and weaknesses, and indicate to the reader why the reviewer recommends or does not recommend reading the book.
Chomsky on Anarchism
Letter: Seth Farber Winter 2011George Fish’s review of Chomsky on Anarchism does not serve Chomsky well at all. While Mr. Fish gives a picturesque description of many of the essays in the book there is no indication that he seriously wrestled with Chomsky’s ideas on anarchism, socialism, the Russian revolution, the roots of totalitarianism, the vanguard party — the big ideas that Chomsky addresses.
Family Policies in Post-Communist Nations
Letter: Steven Saxonberg Winter 2011I think that Betty Reid Mandell made some interesting points in her discussion (in New Politics, Summer 2008, Vol. XII, No. 1, Whole # 45), but she has some misconceptions.
Family Policies in Post-Communist Nations: Reply
Letter: Betty Reid Mandell Winter 2011In response to Saxonberg:There is such widespread ignorance about communism and socialism that I think it is important to call those countries Stalinist rather than Communist or state socialist.
