The C major scale consists of the pitches C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. Its key signature has no flats and no sharps.
Its relative minor is A minor and its parallel minor is C minor.
C major is one of the most common key signatures used in western music. Most transposing instruments playing in their home key are notated in C major; for example, a clarinet in B♭ sounding a B-flat major scale is notated as playing a C major scale. The white keys of the piano correspond to the C major scale. Among brass instruments, the contra-bass tuba is in C. A pedal harp tuned to C major has all of its pedals in the middle position.
C major is often thought of as the simplest key, because there are no sharps and no flats, and beginning piano students' first pieces are usually simple ones in this key; the first scales and arpeggios that students learn are also usually C major. However, going against this common practice, the Polish-French composer Frédéric Chopin regarded this scale as the most difficult to play with complete evenness, and he tended to give it last to his students. He regarded B major as the easiest scale to play on the piano, because the position of the black and white notes best fit the natural positions of the fingers, and so he often had students start with this scale. There are no black keys in the C major scale, thus it doesn't fit the natural positions of the fingers well.
The major scale or Ionian scale is one of the most commonly used musical scales, especially in Western music. It is one of the diatonic scales. Like many musical scales it is made up of seven notes: the eighth duplicates the first at double its frequency so that it is called a higher octave of the same note (from Latin "octavus", the eighth).
The simplest major scale to write is C major, the only major scale not to require sharps or flats:
The major scale had a central importance in European music, particularly in the common practice period and in popular music, owing to the large number of chords that can be formed from it. In Hindustani classical music it is known as Bilaval.
A major scale is a diatonic scale. The sequence of intervals between the notes of a major scale is:
where "whole" stands for a whole tone (a red u-shaped curve in the figure), and "half" stands for a semitone (a red broken line in the figure).
A major scale may be seen as two identical tetrachords separated by a whole tone. Each tetrachord consists of two whole tones followed by a semitone:
Major is a military rank of commissioned officer, with corresponding ranks existing in many military forces. When used unhyphenated, in conjunction with no other indicators, the rank is just senior to that of an army captain and right below the rank of lieutenant colonel. It is considered the most junior of the field officer ranks.
Majors are typically assigned as specialized executive or operations officers for battalion-sized units of 300 to 1,200 soldiers. In some militaries, notably France and Ireland, the rank of major is referred to as commandant, while in others it is known as captain-major. It is also used in some police forces and other paramilitary rank structures, such as the New York State Police, New Jersey State Police and several others. As a police rank, Major roughly corresponds to the UK rank of Superintendent.
When used in hyphenated or combined fashion, the term can also imply seniority at other levels of rank, including general-major or major general, denoting a mid-level general officer, and sergeant major, denoting the most senior NCO of a military unit. The term Major can also be used with a hyphen to denote the leader of a military band such as in pipe-major or drum-major.

Follow-up to earlier ear training video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-O4yYYYMTY ) this one has none of my robot vocals ... it's meant for you to sing along with in order to help really drill the sound of the major scale (and its intervals) into your head. This one is in the key of C (C3 to C4) - I will do more if there's a good response to this one. (I'm also open to any suggestions for future videos.) Once you do it a few times you should be able to hear when the changes are coming up; but to help you out; here's a guide: 1. Up the major scale 3 times. 2. Down the major scale 3 times. 3. Up & down ... 3 times. 4. intervals up & down ... 3 times (ie: returning to Do each time - Do Re... Do Mi.. Do Fa... Do Sol ... Do La ... Do Ti .. Do Do .. Do Ti.. Do La.. etc) 5. intervals up a...

A Basic demonstration of the C Major Scale on the piano. First, one hand, one octave. Then, two hands, two octaves. Try it playing quarter-notes, and then eighth-notes, and then sixteenths. Watch the fingerings closely.
I get asked these questions a lot, and I though I'd answer them. 1 - I made something up that I don't understand, is that cool? 2 - Why do you always teach things in random keys? That's so dumb. 3 - Is a scale the same thing as a key? Support me on Patreon and help me make more of these: http://patreon.com/michaelnew

A thrilling account of Schubert’s colossal (and ingenious) Wanderer Fantasy. The Wanderer Fantasy is at once a fantasy built around an implied variation form, a one-movement sonata, and a traditional four-movement sonata. This is all possible because every single movement is built around the same motif, which is itself derived from the opening phrase of Schubert’s lied Der Wanderer (this opening phrase is quoted nearly exactly in the opening of the second movement.) Note also how Schubert integrates organic transitions between movements into the work: the opening of Mvt 3 is directly derived from the LH figuration at the end of Mvt 2, for instance. As the work progresses from movement to movement without pause, we hear the Wanderer motif being constantly transformed; in the first movement ...

This is one of Beethoven's most important works, often classed with the Appassionata and Les Aideux as one of the great sonatas of his middle period. There is too much to say about the structural/harmonic innovations of this piece, but I suppose the most notable features about it are the extended modulation to the mediant (E major) in the first movement (the same modulation also features prominently in one of the most important late sonatas, the Hammerklavier), the linking of the first movement's 1st and 2nd themes via a 5-note falling motif, and the daring (not to say virtuosic) textures of the final rondo. Movement I: 00:00 Movement II: 10:30 Movement III: 14:14* Pletnev's performance is incredibly lively and buoyant -- check out the Rondo, where he thankfully avoids the overpedaling t...
