Adnan (Arabic: عدنان‎, ʿAdnān) is a masculine name common in the Muslim World. Its eponymous bearer was Adnan, a legendary figure of both pre-Islamic and Islamic mythology. The etymological meaning of the name is settler, from a semitic root `dn; "to stay, abide".

Adnan (Arabic: عدنان‎) is the traditional ancestor of the Adnanite Arabs of Northern, Western and Central Arabia, as opposed to the Qahtanite Arabs of Southern Arabia who descend from Qahtan.

Origin

According to tradition, Adnan is the father of a group of the Ishmaelite Arabs who inhabited West and Northern Arabia, he is a descendant of Ishmael, son of Abraham. Adnan is believed by Arab genealogies to be the father of many Ishmaelite tribes along the Western coast of Arabia, Northern Arabia and Iraq.

Many family trees have been presented by Adnan, which did not agree about the number of ancestors between Ishmael and Adnan but agreed perfectly about the names and number of the ancestors between Adnan and the Prophet Muhammad.

The overwhelming majority of traditions and Muslim scholars state that Adnan is a descendant of Kedar the son of Ishmael, except for Ibn Ishaq who claimed that Adnan was a descendant of Nebaioth, this confusion of Ibn Ishaq can be because one of the descendants of Kedar was also named "Nebaioth".

Adnan Sami Khan is a Mumbai-based Indian singer, musician, actor and pianist. He has a command of Indian and Western classical/semi-classical music, jazz, rock, pop, Indian classical music, fusion and Indian film music. He is the first person in musical history to play Indian classical music on the piano in a style he pioneered and created through the Indian instrument called the santoor. A review in US-based Keyboard magazine described him as the fastest keyboard player in the world and called him the keyboard discovery of the nineties. He can play over 35 musical instruments.

Born to Naureen and Arshad Sami Khan in London, UK, he is of Pakistani, Indian, and Afghan ancestry. Adnan Sami is credited for having sold more than a hundred million albums worldwide. He has some of the best-selling independent albums of all time in South Asia. He has sung and composed innumerable hit songs in Bollywood movies throughout his career. The Times of India has called him the "Sultan of Music".

Adnan Oktar

Adnan Oktar (born 2 February 1956), also known as Harun Yahya, is a Turkish author as well as an Islamic creationist. In 2007, he sent thousands of unsolicited copies of his book, The Atlas of Creation, which advocates Islamic creationism, to American scientists, members of Congress, and science museums. Oktar runs two organizations of which he is also the Honorary President: Bilim Araştırma Vakfı (literally, "Science Research Foundation", BAV, established 1990), which promotes creationism and Milli Değerleri Koruma Vakfı (literally, "National Values Preservation Foundation", established 1995) which works domestically on a variety of moral issues.

In more recent years, Adnan Oktar has been known for his televangelism on his TV channel, A9 TV, noted especially for featuring 'kittens', his female devotees. His organization is commonly referred to as a cult, and he has been described as the "most notorious cult leader in Turkey." Oktar filed more than 5000 lawsuits against individuals for defamation in the last decade, and led to blocking of a number of prominent websites in Turkey.
