Although almost completely destroyed at the end of the Second World War and for many years hidden behind the Iron Curtain, today the city shines out in all of its former splendour. As a centre of art and science, Dresden Castle contains a number of collections that are well known throughout the world and draw international visitors to this most ambitiously-conceived and successful project. Close by, the stable courtyard is the world's oldest original Tournament Arena of its kind. The Tuscan-arched arcades originated in the Renaissance period and were used by spectators during various tournaments and entertainments. Count Brühl, a follower of Friedrich August The Second, was presented with the Elb Wall as a gift and had a mile-long walkway built for the nobility. It is known as The Balcony of Europe and is located ten metres above the banks of the River Elbe. Meissen is well known for the porcelain of the same name. In the Meissen factory each aspect of the manufacturing process can be observed, along with a presentation of the history of the famous porcelain. The centuries created such beauty that Dresden has been described as The Venice Of The East and Florence On The Elb. Today, the city is a harmony of both architecture and landscape, a brilliant work of art!

Bombing of Dresden was an attack on the city of Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony, that took place in the final months of the Second World War in the European Theatre. In four raids between 13 and 15 February 1945, 722 heavy bombers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and 527 of the (USAAF) dropped more than 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city. The resulting firestorm destroyed fifteen square miles (39 square kilometres) of the city centre. Between 22,700 and 25,000 people were killed.
Post-war discussion of whether or not the attacks were justified has led to the bombing becoming one of the moral causes célèbres of the war.
A 1953 United States Air Force report defended the operation as the justified bombing of a military and industrial target, which was a major rail transport and communication centre, housing 110 factories and 50,000 workers in support of the German war effort.Several researchers have claimed that not all of the communications infrastructure, such as the bridges, were targeted, nor were the extensive industrial areas outside the city centre. Critics of the bombing argue that Dresden—sometimes referred to as "Florence on the Elbe" (Elbflorenz)—was a cultural landmark of little or no military significance, and that the attacks were indiscriminate area bombing and not proportionate to the commensurate military gains.
Large variations in the claimed death toll have fuelled the controversy. In March 1945, the Nazi regime ordered its press to publish a falsified casualty figure of 200,000 for the Dresden raids, and death toll estimates as high as 500,000 have been given. The city authorities at the time estimated no more than 25,000 victims, a figure which subsequent investigations, including one commissioned by the city council in 2010, support.

Dresden is one of the beautiful cities of Europe with great culture and history. It is hard to believe that this city was under the communist control just little more than two decades ago. The transformation is just unbelievable. You can't find traces from the communist regime. The quality of life of Germans in this part of world seems to be as high as in other parts of Germany.

Dresden
Dresden (German pronunciation: [ˈdʁeːsdn̩]) is the capital city of the Free State of Saxony in Germany. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe, near the Czech border.
Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. The city was known as the Jewel Box, because of its baroque and rococo city centre. The controversial British and American bombing of Dresden in World War II towards the end of the war killed approximately 25,000, many of whom were civilians, and destroyed the entire city centre. The bombing gutted the city, as it did for other major German cities. After the war restoration work has helped to reconstruct parts of the historic inner city, including the Katholische Hofkirche, the Semper Oper and the Dresdner Frauenkirche as well as the suburbs.
Before and since German reunification in 1990, Dresden was and is a cultural, educational, political and economic center of Germany and Europe. The Dresden University of Technology is one of the 10 largest universities in Germany and part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative.

He was also Elector Frederick Augustus III (Friedrich August III.) of Saxony (1763–1806) and Duke Frederick Augustus I (Polish: Fryderyk August I) of Warsaw (1807–1813).

Air force
An air force, also known in some countries as an air army, is in the broadest sense, the national military organization that primarily conducts aerial warfare. More specifically, it is the branch of a nation's armed services that is responsible for aerial warfare as distinct from an army, navy, or a marine corps. Typically, air forces are responsible for gaining control of the air, carrying out strategic and tactical bombing missions, and providing support to land and naval forces.
The term "air force" may also refer to a tactical air force or numbered air force, which is an operational formation either within a national air force or comprising several air components from allied nations. Air forces typically consist of a combination of fighters, bombers, helicopters, transport planes and other aircraft.
Many air forces are also responsible for operations of the military space, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), and communications equipment. Some air forces may command and control other air defence assets such as anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles, or anti-ballistic missile warning networks and defensive systems. Some nations, principally Russia, the former Soviet Union and countries who modelled their militaries along Soviet lines, have an air defence force which is organizationally separate from their air force.

This was a trip I took last year with these guys to the beautiful city of Dresden. I filmed a vlog, got lazy, and never edited it. So here it is now. I know my vlogging skills weren't as good back then so I didn't have much commentary on the actual city, but I absolutely loved it. Definitely a different look and feel than Southern Germany. It was cool to see different the different types of architecture and to learn about the incredible history that this city has been through. Thanks for watching! -

The video is the depiction through story and silent narrative of the real Holocaust that was delivered to a densely populated city of refugees, fleeing from a war that was forced upon them on September 3rd 1939. I have also included Herbert Smagons paintings that depict other atrocities in conjunction with the Dresden fire bombings which took place on February 13-15 1945. It should be noted you need not be a National Socialist nor a German to lament these crimes against Humanity. The people of the world will arise and the truth will be known in the end. "I belong to the generation of the eye-witnesses of the 20-century connected with the fate of the Germans. As educating artists feel I forced the experienced whole truth of the history, which is concealed until today if possible, artistically to naturally process themselves and for future generations testify." - Herbert Smagon The paintings are by Herbert Smagon, who was born on January 2, 1927 in Karwin, Silesia (nowadays part of Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia), which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He experienced first-hand the harassment that the German minorities suffered in that particular region by the Czechs. He fled with his family to Berlin. In 1943 he served his military service as an auxiliary staff member of the German Luftwaffe, later on he studied in the Academy of Fine Arts of the Austrian capital. Herbert Smagon belongs to the generation of eyewitnesses who survived the hell of the European catastrophe. His work tells the story of the horrors of the spoils of war (perpetrated by the so-called victorious ‘Allied Forces’ on the German people) that the political institutions wish to silence even up to this day. Bombing of Dresden was an attack on the city of Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony, that took place in the final months of the Second World War in the European Theatre. In four raids between 13 and 15 February 1945, 722 heavy bombers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and 527 of the (USAAF) dropped more than 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city. The resulting firestorm destroyed fifteen square miles (39 square kilometres) of the city centre. Between 22,700 and 25,000 people were killed. Post-war discussion of whether or not the attacks were justified has led to the bombing becoming one of the moral causes célèbres of the war. Dresden is one of the beautiful cities of Europe with great culture and history. It is hard to believe that this city was under the communist control just little more than two decades ago. The transformation is just unbelievable. You can't find traces from the communist regime. The quality of life of Germans in this part of world seems to be as high as in other parts of Germany.

I'd like to say that I like the fact there are still people interested in the content of this documentary, but having seen why I'm starting to feel terrible about it. Yes, I did mispronounce Hiroshima. I can't believe no-one's called me out on that yet.

Visiting Dresden, Germany
This was a trip I took last year with these guys to the beautiful city of Dresden. I filmed a vlog, got lazy, and never edited it. So here it is now. I know my vlogging skills weren't as good back then so I didn't have much commentary on the actual city, but I absolutely loved it. Definitely a different look and feel than Southern Germany. It was cool to see different the different types of architecture and to learn about the incredible history that this city has been through. Thanks for watching!

Count Brühl, a follower of Friedrich August The Second, was presented with the Elb Wall as a gift and had a mile-long walkway built for the nobility. It is known as The Balcony of Europe and is located ten metres above the banks of the River Elbe. Meissen is well known for the porcelain of the same name. In the Meissen factory each aspect of the manufacturing process can be observed, along with a presentation of the history of the famous porcelain. The centuries created such beauty that Dresden has been described as The Venice Of The East and Florence On The Elb. Today, the city is a harmony of both architecture and landscape, a brilliant work of art!

In four raids between 13 and 15 February 1945, 722 heavy bombers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and 527 of the (USAAF) dropped more than 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city. The resulting firestorm destroyed fifteen square miles (39 square kilometres) of the city centre. Between 22,700 and 25,000 people were killed.
Post-war discussion of whether or not the attacks were justified has led to the bombing becoming one of the moral causes célèbres of the war.
A 1953 United States Air Force report defended the operation as the justified bombing of a military and industrial target, which was a major rail transport and communication centre, housing 110 factories and 50,000 workers in support of the German war effort.Several researchers have claimed that not all of the communications infrastructure, such as the bridges, were targeted, nor were the extensive industrial areas outside the city centre. Critics of the bombing argue that Dresden—sometimes referred to as "Florence on the Elbe" (Elbflorenz)—was a cultural landmark of little or no military significance, and that the attacks were indiscriminate area bombing and not proportionate to the commensurate military gains.
Large variations in the claimed death toll have fuelled the controversy. In March 1945, the Nazi regime ordered its press to publish a falsified casualty figure of 200,000 for the Dresden raids, and death toll estimates as high as 500,000 have been given. This was a trip I took last year with these guys to the beautiful city of Dresden. I filmed a vlog, got lazy, and never edited it. So here it is now. I know my vlogging skills weren't as good back then so I didn't have much commentary on the actual city, but I absolutely loved it. Definitely a different look and feel than Southern Germany. It was cool to see different the different types of architecture and to learn about the incredible history that this city has been through. Thanks for watching!

The video is the depiction through story and silent narrative of the real Holocaust that was delivered to a densely populated city of refugees, fleeing from a war that was forced upon them on September 3rd 1939. I have also included Herbert Smagons paintings that depict other atrocities in conjunction with the Dresden fire bombings which took place on February 13-15 1945. To learn more in depth of this holocaust click the link below and watch the documentary "Hellstorm". It should be noted you need not be a National Socialist nor a German to lament these crimes against Humanity. The people of the world will arise and the truth will be known in the end.
"I belong to the generation of the eye-witnesses of the 20-century connected with the fate of the Germans. As educating artists feel I forced the experienced whole truth of the history, which is concealed until today if possible, artistically to naturally process themselves and for future generations testify." - Herbert Smagon
The paintings are by Herbert Smagon, who was born on January 2, 1927 in Karwin, Silesia (nowadays part of Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia), which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He experienced first-hand the harassment that the German minorities suffered in that particular region by the Czechs. He fled with his family to Berlin. In 1943 he served his military service as an auxiliary staff member of the German Luftwaffe, later on he studied in the Academy of Fine Arts of the Austrian capital.
Herbert Smagon belongs to the generation of eyewitnesses who survived the hell of the European catastrophe. His work tells the story of the horrors of the spoils of war (perpetrated by the so-called victorious ‘Allied Forces’ on the German people) that the political institutions wish to silence even up to this day.
His paintings about the end of WWII in Germany are like a graphic depiction of 'HELLSTORM The Death of Nazi Germany' by Thomas Goodrich.

Day Trip to Dresden
I took a day trip from Prague to Dresden as it is a short 2 hour bus ride from Prague. Dresden is very easy to get to from Prague or vice versa. You can use student agency bus company or eurolines bus company. Total ticket price ranges from estimated 20-40 USD depending on several factors including the time of departure, date and seats available. The historical part of Dresden is very walkable and being near the Elbe river is great. Make sure to grab a beer at a beer garden along with some sausages. Dresden surprised me, it was a really cool city with some awesome people. I know todays episode is not as exiting as the last but hopefully you'll still enjoy it. Dresden is the capital city of the Free State of Saxony in Germany. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe, near the border with the Czech Republic.
Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. The city was known as the Jewel Box, because of its baroque and rococo city centre. The controversial American and British bombing of Dresden in World War II towards the end of the war killed approximately 25,000, many of whom were civilians, and destroyed the entire city centre. The bombing gutted the city, as it did for other major German cities. After the war restoration work has helped to reconstruct parts of the historic inner city, including the Katholische Hofkirche, the Semper Oper and the Dresdner Frauenkirche as well as the suburbs.
Before and since German reunification in 1990, Dresden was and is a cultural, educational, political and economic centre of Germany and Europe. The Dresden University of Technology is one of the 10 largest universities in Germany and part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative.
The Elector and ruler of Saxony Frederick Augustus I became King Augustus II the Strong of Poland in personal union. He gathered many of the best musicians, architects and painters from all over Europe to the newly named Royal-Polish Residential City of Dresden. His reign marked the beginning of Dresden's emergence as a leading European city for technology and art. During the reign of Kings Augustus II the Strong and Augustus III of Poland the Zwinger Royal Palace, the Hofkirche and the Frauenkirche were built. In 1729, by decree of King Augustus II the first Polish Military Academy was founded in Dresden. In 1730 it was relocated to Warsaw. Dresden suffered heavy destruction in the Seven Years' War (1756–1763), following its capture by Prussian forces, its subsequent re-capture, and a failed Prussian siege in 1760. Friedrich Schiller wrote his Ode to Joy (the literary base of the European anthem) for the Dresden Masonic Lodge in 1785.
The city of Dresden had a distinctive silhouette, captured in famous paintings by Bernardo Bellotto and by Norwegian painter Johan Christian Dahl. Between 1806 and 1918 the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Saxony (which was a part of the German Empire from 1871). During the Napoleonic Wars the French emperor made it a base of operations, winning there the famous Battle of Dresden on 27 August 1813. Dresden was a center of the German Revolutions in 1848 with the May Uprising, which cost human lives and damaged the historic town of Dresden.[citation needed]
During the 19th century the city became a major center of economy, including motor car production, food processing, banking and the manufacture of medical equipment.
In the early 20th century Dresden was particularly well known for its camera works and its cigarette factories. Between 1918 and 1934 Dresden was capital of the first Free State of Saxony. Dresden was a centre of European modern art until 1933.

In this video i will go over most of the places we visited. You will see at some parts of the videos me and my girlfriend (hopefully she doesn't kill me once the video is up lol).

The impact of the bombing and 40 years of urban development during the East German communist era have considerably changed the face of the city. Some restoration work has helped to reconstruct parts of the historic inner city, including the Katholische Hofkirche, the Semper Oper and the Dresdner Frauenkirche.
Since German reunification in 1990, Dresden has regained importance as one of the cultural, educational, political and economic centers of Germany and Europe. The Dresden University of Technology is one of the 10 largest universities in Germany and part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative.

Dresden is the capital city of the Free State of Saxony (Sachsen) in Germany. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe, near the Czech border. The Dresden conurbation is part of the Saxon Triangle metropolitan area with 2.4 million inhabitants.
Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. The city was known as the Jewel Box, because of its baroque and rococo city center. A controversial Allied aerial bombing towards the end of World War II killed 25,000 civilians and destroyed the entire city center.
