Half David Bowie, half really bad idea. No, at most 10% David Bowie.
July 24th, 2017 at 12:22 pm
@TagWizard: I say, no Smirky McSmug tag for the fellow in the cowl?
July 24th, 2017 at 1:10 pm
@DSWBT – I thought he was more of a Pensive Pete, but sure, I’ll tag him.
July 24th, 2017 at 1:11 pm
He’s called that because “myhr” is the only sound he can make.
July 24th, 2017 at 1:14 pm
He’ll be starring as Skimbleshanks somewhere in a community theater production of Cats.

He’s sporting the very rare “party in the front, party in the back” mullet.
July 24th, 2017 at 2:08 pm
Half man, half cat, ten per cent David Bowie, ten per cent David Blaine and seven and three quarters percent Rod Stewart because where this cover’s coming they don’t need no steenkin’ arithmetic.
July 24th, 2017 at 2:25 pm
“So, you’re half cat, eh?”
“Yep, that’s right. Pretty awesome, huh?”
“Sure, can you jump 6 six times your height?”
“Well, no, but-”
“Do you have retractable razor sharp claws?”
“Uh…”
“How about a cool tail that you can swish around?”
“no…no tail…”
“My god, can you at least lick your own genitalia???”
“Noooo! *sobs*”

I had no idea that cosplaying David Bowie as an anthropomorphic lion was a thing. It certainly didn’t need to happen.

YES! Cat people, garish font problems, stupid outfits… it’s BAEN!Meow
Does he have pals named “Meh”, “Rrow?”, “Mrrt-RRT!”, “Nyan”, etc.?
@Francis (8): exactly.
reads comment of @fred (11)
O good lord.
It’s fanfic
of the author’s
friend’s (the artist)
Furry alter ego.
Just when you think Baen can’t sink any lower, they publish a whole series of stuff that ought to be kept in a fanfic archive and ignored even there.
Furry Sue, fanfic, cosplay, mullets, a really unclear distinction between real life and fantasy, and Baen.
I am mildly nauseous and may hork up a furball.
Yiff in hell, Myhr. Yiff. In. Hell.

At a workplace I once was employed by, if you wanted to see your payslips, shifts, group certificates, etc, you logged into your personal page on the Human Resources (H.R) division site. This page was known as “My H.R”, and while it may have been designed by persons who were only half human, and possibly half cat, there was no sign of anything heroic about it.

@fred – “Lock up yer wimmin,” indeed.
@GSSXN – Excellent link on how to do cover design paint-by-numbers.
Invite that author over here to join us kindred spirits!
July 26th, 2017 at 12:28 am
Right, I’ve asked her.
July 26th, 2017 at 9:33 am
Thanks for the invite! This cover is priceless… you have to give it points for creativity at least – I’ve never seen an orb-wielding vest-wearing man-cat on a book before (perhaps I simply haven’t been on this site for long enough…)

@ThoughtsOnFantasy – Welcome to our little site. I’ll your host if you need anything.
July 26th, 2017 at 2:04 pm
@ThoughtsOnFantasy. Welcome indeed. I think you’ll feel at home here. In fact, after viewing your sterling work on The Last Assassin of the Unseen Throne: Book 1 of the Blood Magician Chronicles, I wouldn’t be surprised if our very own Dr J.R. Asimov chooses you to design the cover for his next #1 Bestseller. (It’s a great honour). B.t.w. do you think he needs an extra “R” in his name?
July 26th, 2017 at 10:12 pm
@ThoughtsOnFantasy: Hello! Glad you stopped by.
I’m certain the guy in the background of this cover might also appear in a later volume of “The Blood Magician Chronicles”, what with his hooded cloak and general air of menacing magic. Maybe The Last Assassin could take out man-cats.
Don’t forget the Random Terrible Cover link up top in the sidebar for gems from the archives. I just clicked it and got http://www.goodshowsir.co.uk/?p=520
And I think this one used your tutorial:

Thanks!
@RachelJ: Wow, that cover is a thing of great beauty. I don’t know if I’m qualified to design something of that level for a best-selling author like Dr J.R. Asimov, but it would be an honour to be chosen. Though I would indeed strongly suggest an additional R for future publications. (btw, it’s nice to see C.S. Lewis is still providing quotes)
@GSSXN I can definitely see the background guy making an appearance – the more hooded figures, the merrier. And I’ve already been enjoying some of the gems in the archives, but I’ll be sure to use the link whenever I need another terrible cover fix!
July 27th, 2017 at 2:16 pm
@ToF: perhaps we should read the title trilling our R’s? Since when has that ever been a bad idea? 😉
July 27th, 2017 at 9:59 pm
@DSWBT Since never! Definitely a good idea 🙂
July 29th, 2017 at 4:23 pm
The artist’s website showed his real inspiration: the 90s TV show “Beauty and the Beast”, with a pre-badass Linda Hamilton. He has a fanpic that shows her canoodling with “Vincent” while Mulder and Scully look on.

It’s fanfic
of the author’s
friend’s

Furry alter ego
Rip-off
of an old TV show.
(b/c he had to be “Myhr” since no one’s as cool as Ron Perlman)

@Rachael J: Explains it all.
Have I mentioned Myhr should yiff in hell?
I am not anti-furry; indeed, I have partied (not like that you pervs) with some, and many furries are quite nice ordinary folk. But they still have a grip on reality, unlike Myhr and pals. Who should yiff in hell, as soon they will thanks to sunglassed Satan in the background there.
October 3rd, 2017 at 1:11 am
While I am still of the opinion that hell-yiffing must befall everyone having anything to do with this book, I am boggled to see that some miscreants have come along and voted it up higher than the classics of Woman In Bear Suit Eating Turkey Leg, Stove Boobs On Broil, Cyclops Topless Runts, Nazi Gnomes, and Bigfoot’s Inflatable Girlfriend.
Really, it’s not as frightening or WTF as those; Woman/Bear/Turkey made someone wish we had exponential notation here to raise WTF to a higher power.
October 3rd, 2017 at 1:16 am
@GSSXN – Here let me take care of that for you.
I hadn’t voted on this one.
Now I did.
