Five people, including a mother, have been hospitalised after two cars collided head on north of Cooma, leaving them with serious injuries.
The crash occurred about 1pm on the Monaro Highway near Bunyan.
A Kia SUV travelling north on the Monaro Highway collided head on with a Volvo station wagon, which was carrying a mother and two teenagers from Nimmitabel.
The driver and passenger of the Kia, a brother and sister in their mid-80s from Canberra, were taken to Canberra Hospital with serious injuries.
The woman driving the Volvo, a mother in her 50s, was airlifted to Canberra Hospital by the Toll Air Ambulance.
Police have not yet determined the causes of the crash.
A 15-year-old girl inside the Volvo had been trapped before she was freed and taken to Cooma Hospital with an 11-year-old boy for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said there were no fatalities and crash investigators were still at the scene on Saturday night.
Both lanes of traffic had been reopened but were running slow as police and forensic specialists worked to determine the cause of the collision.
Toll Air Ambulance confirmed their helicopter had been tasked to the scene.
ACT Ambulance and Cooma Rural Fire Service responded to the crash, with Cooma detectives on scene assisting crash investigators.
An ACT Health spokesman confirmed both occupants of the Kia and the mother from the Volvo were patients at Canberra Hospital.
