Welcome to the webpage for Sonic
Overload. As my regular listeners know by now, I play punk, hardcore, garage
and other loud music, although there are surprises from time to time as well as
decidedly slanted commentary on the “issues of the day” and that’s also
presented through song selections and audio clips.
Listen to Sonic Overload live every
Wednesday from 9 to 11 PM eastern on Old
FX Punk Radio
All of the shows from January 2009 to
the present are archived for download at sonicoverload.blogspot.com.

page.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2017
Grant
Hart from Hüsker Dü passed away last week from liver cancer. He was only 56
years old. One of my all-time favorite bands and I was fortunate enough to see
them play a number of times in the 80s—if I had to venture a guess, it would be
ten, as they came through my area quite frequently. I don’t recall talking to
Grant that much, if at all, but I did get to play Frisbee with him and Bob
Mould (who I know a little better) outside Pulaski Hall in Easthampton, MA. I
was worried about Grant hurting his feet since, of course, he was playing barefoot
(that’s how he played drums, too). And that show was the third in three
nights—Providence, Boston and Easthampton—and I still managed to get to my miserable bank job on time every
morning. By the end of the week, I was a zombie but it was worth it, humming
“From The Gut” while opening the payments in the loan department where I
toiled.
Grant
had a troubled life and it’s no secret there was a lot of acrimony when the
Hüskers came to a parting of the ways in 1987 and a reunion always seemed like
a remote possibility—not that it would have necessarily been a great idea as it
was. R.I.P. Grant…
