Good morning, brothers and sisters. Please be seated. I want to thank Sonic Cult and Joe for their great work to develop our music and praise, and also Kennedy and Alexis, our professional singers, who are bringing such a great spirit. Let’s give them a hand.
First, I want to thank God and True Parents, and especially our national president and senior pastor, Rev. In Jin Moon, for allowing me to be with you this morning. And I want to say hello to all the brothers and sisters in all 50 states and around the world: all our Unification family. Praise the Lord! Also I want to say a special hello to the American Clergy Leadership Conference leaders and volunteers throughout the nation. Thanks for your support and work for the clergy.
I want to say a word of thanks from my heart to Rev. In Jin Moon and her family for leading us at this time. Jin Sung Park is devoting himself 24 hours a day, serving and teaching our brothers and sisters, old and young alike, about True Parents and True Children. I’ve learned so much from him, and I pray that we can really support Rev. In Jin Moon and her family and realize that they’ve given everything to come to the front line with us. So, “Thank you, Rev. In Jin Moon and Jin Sung Park!”
Also I want to thank their eldest son, Preston. He is so kind when I relate with him. He helps me a lot to come close, and also Rexton took leadership in CARP. It’s amazing. Let’s give him a hand. Ariana teaches us ballroom dancing and the Principles of Creation. My wife and I love ballroom dancing. We’re still learning, but it’s really a joy. It’s bringing joy to all of our generations. Ariana also has taken a central role in our media and public communications, and has changed our relationship with the media. We are now having very good—and better and better—communications with the media.
Recently The Learning Channel (TLC) was going to air a beautiful documentary on our Blessing, but they had the title “Getting Married to the Moonies.” So thanks to Ariana’s efforts to strengthen the media and outreach in communications, Doug Burton and others communicated with TLC. At first, they got back and said, “Well, we’re just going to keep that title. That’s what we want to do, and it sells. It’s a juicy title.”
But then we got the clergy together. And when we go together and we start to communicate, they start to realize the Unificationists are not alone; we have incredible allies throughout every community and every faith tradition. So when TLC saw beautiful letters coming from Dr. Rouse, who is the chairman of Operation Push for New York and a great United Methodist pastor, and others, saying, “You can’t discriminate against these people of faith; do not denigrate them; they have to be called properly as Unificationists, and don’t belittle them,” that got their interest.
And then when we told them we had 15 pastors who were ready to come to their Discovery-TLC headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, that really got their attention—they felt the love of God. And without our even going to their office—now, this never happened before—without our even going to the office, they changed the title to “Reverend Moon’s Mass Marriage,” with respect, and it’s a great documentary. So thank you, Ariana, thank you, Jin Sung Park and all of our True Children and True Family.
“Called by Jesus”
I have more to say about that, but I’d like to give some personal testimony. Rev. In Jin Moon would like us to give a little testimony about our background. When I joined the church, I was in dental school. I was going to be a dentist. I wanted to save teeth—and get rich. But I prayed one night that I wouldn’t miss the Second Coming, and the next morning I met a German young lady who was a member of the church. She was very odd-looking, actually. She was very pretty, but she had buttons all over with Father’s picture. She stopped me as I was going to the bank at Ohio State University and she said, “Do you believe in God?” And I said, “Yes, but I’m only interested in the Second Coming.” And she said, “He’s here. He’s here now.” So that got my attention.
She took me inside, and I heard some lectures. It was a nice lecture room with about 50 chairs. I was the only guest. But they said, “It’s always full but it’s not full today.” Anyway, the lecturer, Rev. Ken Sudo, came out and gave me my first lectures, and it was a beautiful experience. I joined right after that. My family had a very hard time with it because they wanted me to be a dentist, and I was happy with life. But God called me in a different direction.

Bede
Bede (/ˈbiːd/ BEED; Old English: Bǣda or Bēda; 672/673 – 26 May 735), also referred to as Saint Bede or the Venerable Bede (Latin: Bēda Venerābilis), was an English monk at the monastery of Saint Peter at Monkwearmouth and its companion monastery, Saint Paul's, in modern Jarrow (see Monkwearmouth-Jarrow), County Durham, both of which were then in the Kingdom of Northumbria. He is well known as an author and scholar, and his most famous work, Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum (The Ecclesiastical History of the English People) gained him the title "The Father of English History".
In 1899, Bede was made a Doctor of the Church by Pope Leo XIII; he is the only native of Great Britain to achieve this designation (Anselm of Canterbury, also a Doctor of the Church, was originally from Italy). Bede was moreover a skilled linguist and translator, and his work made the Latin and Greek writings of the early Church Fathers much more accessible to his fellow Anglo-Saxons, contributing significantly to English Christianity. Bede's monastery had access to an impressive library which included works by Eusebius and Orosius, among many others.

Master of Laws
The Master of Laws is an academic degree, pursued by those either holding an undergraduate academic law degree, a professional law degree, or an undergraduate degree in a related subject. In some jurisdictions the "Master of Laws" is the basic professional degree for admission into legal practice. "And I" is a song written by American R&B singer Ciara, and produced by Adonis Shropshire for Ciara's first album, Goodies (2004). It was released as the album's fourth and final single on August 30, 2005 (see 2005 in music) in North America.
The song was originally the third choice for the fourth single. Ciara has mentioned in an interview that "Thug Style", "Hotline" or "Pick up the Phone" would be the fourth single, but when Ciara suggested "And I" to executives at her previous record label LaFace, they were unhappy because they wanted "Next to You" to be the fourth single.
Chart performance
At the time of the U.S. release of "And I", Ciara's collaboration with Bow Wow, "Like You", and her collaboration with Missy Elliott, "Lose Control", were at the height of their popularity. "And I" peaked at 96 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and 27 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, which were poor positions compared to those attained by the first three singles from the album Goodies. It was not released outside North America because of this, and it is Ciara's least successful single.

In Jin Moon
In Jin Moon is the former president of the Unification Church of the United States and a daughter of Unification Church founder Reverend Sun Myung Moon and his wife Hak Ja Han. She stepped down from her role after it was revealed that she had an extra marital affair and birthed a child out of wedlock. Moon was born in South Korea in 1965 and moved with her family to the United States in 1973. She studied political science and philosophy at Columbia University and pursued her graduate studies at Harvard Divinity School. In the 1980s, Moon spoke at public rallies in support of her father who was convicted of tax fraud by the United States government.
In 2008 Moon assumed the position of CEO at New York City’s Manhattan Center, and implemented a restructuring. She was appointed President and CEO of HSA-UWC America in August 2008 and worked to modernize the church's worship style in an effort to bring in younger members. In 2011, she spoke at an inter-religious conference on religious freedom in Washington DC. In 2012 she resigned from public life following her divorce and remarriage.

Speaking God’s Language of the Heart Rev. Kevin Thompson February 19, 2012 Good morning. Boy, you look good. You are looking good. All right. Let’s take a seat. You’re taking up my time here! Oh, it’s great to be at Lovin’ Life. And for those who have asked me, there are no teleprompters. In Jin Nim speaks without notes. As for me, I’ve got lots of notes. You don’t want me up here with no notes. You don’t know what would happen. I’m going to start with a Bible reading. Is that okay? The parable of the lost sheep, Matthew 18: “If a man owns 100 sheep and one of them wanders off, will he not leave the 99 and look for the one who wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the 99 that did not wander off. In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.” You may have heard the story about the farmer who hired a Japanese laborer. They were out in the field and the farmer said, “Hiro (that was his name), I need some supplies. Go get me some supplies.” And Hiro, “Uh, uh?” “I need some supplies. I can’t keep working without any supplies. Go get me some supplies.” So Hiro takes off down the road and he’s gone for 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 50 minutes. Finally, the farmer says to himself, “I’ve got to go look for this guy.” So he starts walking down the lane. He comes to the first tree and Hiro jumps out and goes, “Supplise!” That’s how I feel like it is today. “Supplise” that I’m here today. “Saint Bede Is with You” I’m back here in the Manhattan Center, the world-famous place where I met Sting. You know who Sting is? Sting’s a singer from my hometown, and I met him right here. We talked about all the hometown stuff – about different places, and especially we talked about our team. From a hometown, that’s what you talk about. I’m talking about true football, you know. So actually I’m not really fond of the city of Newcastle, where Sting is from. I’m from a little town outside Newcastle called Jarrow. I know. Gasp, right? “He’s from Jarrow.” Many people wish they were from Jarrow. Some people even lie about it. But I am from Jarrow. I really am. And Jarrow is famous for one thing. It’s the home of Saint Bede. How many of you have heard of Saint Bede? Okay. The rest of you, you need to sign up for UTS and learn who Saint Bede is. Saint Bede is the only English-born saint, and he comes from my hometown. I grew up in a totally nonreligious family. I never, ever went to church, not once before I met the Unification Church. But my next-door neighbor, her name was Mrs. Rogers, went to church every single morning at 6:00 a.m. She was a fanatic. I know in America you have Mr. Rogers, but we had Mrs. Rogers. I don’t know her first name, but she was Mrs. Rogers. When I was 10 years old she told me, “Kevy, I’m praying for you.” And I thought, “What a waste of time.” And she kept telling me through the years, “Kevy, I’m praying for you.” So I can’t imagine how frustrated she was when I grew up to be an atheistic communist. And I thought, “Prayers don’t work, obviously.” I was a communist. I left my home in England. In 1979 I went to Nicaragua because there was a communist revolution going on, and I thought, “That’s the place to be.” So I went to the communist revolution and I found out it was awful. It was a big disappointment, and I was wondering what to do next. I left Nicaragua and went to San Diego, where I met my spiritual father, Walter Frank. I joined the Unification Church. After I was in the church for about three or four months, I went to a Christian church where there was a spiritualist lady. Good morning, brothers and sisters. Please be seated. I want to thank Sonic Cult and Joe for their great work to develop our music and praise, and also Kennedy and Alexis, our professional singers, who are bringing such a great spirit. Let’s give them a hand.
First, I want to thank God and True Parents, and especially our national president and senior pastor, Rev. In Jin Moon, for allowing me to be with you this morning. And I want to say hello to all the brothers and sisters in all 50 states and around the world: all our Unification family. Praise the Lord! Also I want to say a special hello to the American Clergy Leadership Conference leaders and volunteers throughout the nation. Thanks for your support and work for the clergy.
I want to say a word of thanks from my heart to Rev. In Jin Moon and her family for leading us at this time. Jin Sung Park is devoting himself 24 hours a day, serving and teaching our brothers and sisters, old and young alike, about True Parents and True Children. I’ve learned so much from him, and I pray that we can really support Rev. In Jin Moon and her family and realize that they’ve given everything to come to the front line with us. So, “Thank you, Rev. In Jin Moon and Jin Sung Park!”
Also I want to thank their eldest son, Preston. He is so kind when I relate with him. He helps me a lot to come close, and also Rexton took leadership in CARP. It’s amazing. Let’s give him a hand. Ariana teaches us ballroom dancing and the Principles of Creation. My wife and I love ballroom dancing. We’re still learning, but it’s really a joy. It’s bringing joy to all of our generations. Ariana also has taken a central role in our media and public communications, and has changed our relationship with the media. We are now having very good—and better and better—communications with the media.
Recently The Learning Channel (TLC) was going to air a beautiful documentary on our Blessing, but they had the title “Getting Married to the Moonies.” So thanks to Ariana’s efforts to strengthen the media and outreach in communications, Doug Burton and others communicated with TLC. At first, they got back and said, “Well, we’re just going to keep that title. That’s what we want to do, and it sells. It’s a juicy title.”
But then we got the clergy together. And when we go together and we start to communicate, they start to realize the Unificationists are not alone; we have incredible allies throughout every community and every faith tradition. So when TLC saw beautiful letters coming from Dr. Rouse, who is the chairman of Operation Push for New York and a great United Methodist pastor, and others, saying, “You can’t discriminate against these people of faith; do not denigrate them; they have to be called properly as Unificationists, and don’t belittle them,” that got their interest.
And then when we told them we had 15 pastors who were ready to come to their Discovery-TLC headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, that really got their attention—they felt the love of God. And without our even going to their office—now, this never happened before—without our even going to the office, they changed the title to “Reverend Moon’s Mass Marriage,” with respect, and it’s a great documentary. So thank you, Ariana, thank you, Jin Sung Park and all of our True Children and True Family.
“Called by Jesus”
I have more to say about that, but I’d like to give some personal testimony. Rev. In Jin Moon would like us to give a little testimony about our background. When I joined the church, I was in dental school. I was going to be a dentist. I wanted to save teeth—and get rich. But I prayed one night that I wouldn’t miss the Second Coming, and the next morning I met a German young lady who was a member of the church. She was very odd-looking, actually. She was very pretty, but she had buttons all over with Father’s picture. She stopped me as I was going to the bank at Ohio State University and she said, “Do you believe in God?” And I said, “Yes, but I’m only interested in the Second Coming.” And she said, “He’s here. He’s here now.” So that got my attention.
She took me inside, and I heard some lectures. It was a nice lecture room with about 50 chairs. I was the only guest. But they said, “It’s always full but it’s not full today.” Anyway, the lecturer, Rev. Ken Sudo, came out and gave me my first lectures, and it was a beautiful experience. I joined right after that. My family had a very hard time with it because they wanted me to be a dentist, and I was happy with life. But God called me in a different direction.
When I came home to my family to explain what I was doing, my father brought a Christian minister over, and we went over the Bible for about four hours. Then this mi

At first, they got back and said, “Well, we’re just going to keep that title. That’s what we want to do, and it sells. It’s a juicy title.”
But then we got the clergy together. And when we go together and we start to communicate, they start to realize the Unificationists are not alone; we have incredible allies throughout every community and every faith tradition. So when TLC saw beautiful letters coming from Dr. Rouse, who is the chairman of Operation Push for New York and a great United Methodist pastor, and others, saying, “You can’t discriminate against these people of faith; do not denigrate them; they have to be called properly as Unificationists, and don’t belittle them,” that got their interest.
And then when we told them we had 15 pastors who were ready to come to their Discovery-TLC headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, that really got their attention—they felt the love of God. And without our even going to their office—now, this never happened before—without our even going to the office, they changed the title to “Reverend Moon’s Mass Marriage,” with respect, and it’s a great documentary. So thank you, Ariana, thank you, Jin Sung Park and all of our True Children and True Family.
“Called by Jesus”
I have more to say about that, but I’d like to give some personal testimony. Rev. In Jin Moon would like us to give a little testimony about our background. When I joined the church, I was in dental school. I was going to be a dentist. I wanted to save teeth—and get rich. But I prayed one night that I wouldn’t miss the Second Coming, and the next morning I met a German young lady who was a member of the church. She was very odd-looking, actually. She was very pretty, but she had buttons all over with Father’s picture. She stopped me as I was going to the bank at Ohio State University and she said, “Do you believe in God?” And I said, “Yes, but I’m only interested in the Second Coming.” And she said, “He’s here. He’s here now.” So that got my attention.
She took me inside, and I heard some lectures. It was a nice lecture room with about 50 chairs. I was the only guest. But they said, “It’s always full but it’s not full today.” Anyway, the lecturer, Rev. Ken Sudo, came out and gave me my first lectures, and it was a beautiful experience. I joined right after that. My family had a very hard time with it because they wanted me to be a dentist, and I was happy with life. But God called me in a different direction.

Good morning. Boy, you look good. You are looking good. All right. Let’s take a seat. You’re taking up my time here!
Oh, it’s great to be at Lovin’ Life. And for those who have asked me, there are no teleprompters. In Jin Nim speaks without notes. As for me, I’ve got lots of notes. You don’t want me up here with no notes. You don’t know what would happen. I’m going to start with a Bible reading. Is that okay?
The parable of the lost sheep, Matthew 18: “If a man owns 100 sheep and one of them wanders off, will he not leave the 99 and look for the one who wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the 99 that did not wander off. In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.”
You may have heard the story about the farmer who hired a Japanese laborer. They were out in the field and the farmer said, “Hiro (that was his name), I need some supplies. Go get me some supplies.” And Hiro, “Uh, uh?” “I need some supplies. I can’t keep working without any supplies. Go get me some supplies.”
So Hiro takes off down the road and he’s gone for 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 50 minutes. Finally, the farmer says to himself, “I’ve got to go look for this guy.” So he starts walking down the lane. He comes to the first tree and Hiro jumps out and goes, “Supplise!” That’s how I feel like it is today. “Supplise” that I’m here today.
“Saint Bede Is with You”
I’m back here in the Manhattan Center, the world-famous place where I met Sting. You know who Sting is? Sting’s a singer from my hometown, and I met him right here. We talked about all the hometown stuff – about different places, and especially we talked about our team. From a hometown, that’s what you talk about. I’m talking about true football, you know. So actually I’m not really fond of the city of Newcastle, where Sting is from. I’m from a little town outside Newcastle called Jarrow. I know. Gasp, right? “He’s from Jarrow.” Many people wish they were from Jarrow. Some people even lie about it. But I am from Jarrow. I really am.
And Jarrow is famous for one thing. It’s the home of Saint Bede. How many of you have heard of Saint Bede? Okay. The rest of you, you need to sign up for UTS and learn who Saint Bede is. Saint Bede is the only English-born saint, and he comes from my hometown.
I grew up in a totally nonreligious family. I never, ever went to church, not once before I met the Unification Church. But my next-door neighbor, her name was Mrs. Rogers, went to church every single morning at 6:00 a.m. She was a fanatic. I know in America you have Mr. Rogers, but we had Mrs. Rogers. I don’t know her first name, but she was Mrs. Rogers.
When I was 10 years old she told me, “Kevy, I’m praying for you.” And I thought, “What a waste of time.” And she kept telling me through the years, “Kevy, I’m praying for you.” So I can’t imagine how frustrated she was when I grew up to be an atheistic communist. And I thought, “Prayers don’t work, obviously.” I was a communist. I left my home in England.
In 1979 I went to Nicaragua because there was a communist revolution going on, and I thought, “That’s the place to be.” So I went to the communist revolution and I found out it was awful. It was a big disappointment, and I was wondering what to do next. I left Nicaragua and went to San Diego, where I met my spiritual father, Walter Frank.
I joined the Unification Church. After I was in the church for about three or four months, I went to a Christian church where there was a spiritualist lady. She came up to me out of the blue and said, “Saint Bede is with you.” And three or four times since then spiritual people have come to me and said, “Saint Bede is with you.” Now personally I’m physically open, so I have to take their word for it. But the message of that is, “Parents, never stop praying for your children.”
I’m here because of the prayers of Mrs. Rogers. I don’t have any merit personally, but actually she prayed in the church of Saint Bede every morning, not the old church, the new one, the one that was built in 791. You know, the new one? So she’s been praying in the church of St. Bede for me every day, a nonbeliever, and then people are telling me Saint Bede is with me.
So I’m telling you, parents, I don’t care how far your children are wandering. I don’t care how hopeless it looks. Do not stop praying for your children.
I have a message for your kids out there: You might as well give up now. If you’ve got somebody praying for you, it’s a lost cause. You might as well give up. And I don’t even care if you don’t believe in God, because it doesn’t matter. God believes in you.

The Messiah Comes to Bring Living Water

Good morning. Welcome to Lovin’ Life! Happy Sunday! Happy first Sunday in March! Today is March 4th. Are you ready to march forth? You look so good today. Turn to your neighbor and say, “I love you! Welcome to Lovin’ Life! God loves you.”
Everybody, I guess you’ve got to take your seats.
Good morning. I love our senior pastor. Do you love her? I love her for many reasons, but one in particular is because she made Lovin’ Life a music ministry. Amen? A music ministry, that’s like music to my soul. In fact, it is! It’s music to my soul. So when the music stops, I feel like we should keep going. How about you?
It’s great to see Sister Gloria here, and Minister Wright. We had such an incredible time in the Lord at the Original Substance of Divine Principle (OSDP) workshops last fall and winter in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. The best part of it for me was of course the word, but the music, amen! I just want to thank the Wrights. Stand up right now. They’re part of our music ministry. Incredible. And Bishop Jesse Edwards, Rev. Levy Daugherty, Brother Keith Williams out in Los Angeles, and Brother Tim Daugherty right here in New York. God’s family came together and sang such beautiful music, which opened people’s hearts to receive the word, amen? That’s what Lovin’ Life is all about.
Water Is Life
Today I want to talk about living water. It’s amazing because Joe picked a Holy Song called “The Spring of Life” today. The chorus talks about the living waters, “going to the land where living waters flow.” That’s what this sermon is all about. That’s the great thing about gospel songs: They’re based on the word.
In fact, I want to teach you a gospel song today. This is the little blonde guitar that we use in OSDP. I bet you didn’t know I could play this thing. Now let’s give a hand to the Lovin’ Life choir. They’re going to help you out with this song, and the words are up there. We’re in the house of the Lord, so why don’t you just stand to your feet and make a joyful noise! This song is called “River of Life.”

Gospel songs are great because they’re based on the word of God. There are so many references in the Gospel to water, isn’t it true? Water is life. There are so many sermons about water.
Today I want to talk about the living water that comes from God through the messiah. You might want to write some of these Scriptures down. I’m going to go through them quickly. John 7:38. Jesus was at the end of the Feast of Tabernacles, on the eighth day, when the Israelites were not supposed to drink. We read in John 7:38 that Jesus stepped forth at that time and he said this: “If anyone thirsts, let him come unto me and drink. He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” Isn’t that beautiful?
John 4:13–15 is another story about Jesus. In this story, he meets a woman at the well. Have you heard this story? She happens to be a Samaritan, and it wasn’t cool for Jews to speak and have discourse or conversation with Samaritans. This was a Samaritan woman who was standing at the well of Jacob, and Jesus was thirsty. He stopped by the well and asked if she would give him a drink.
And she said, “You’re not supposed to be talking to people like me. What’s going on here?” Then Jesus talked about a different kind of water that he could offer her, water that would quench her thirst for eternity. She said, “What are you talking about? This is the water of our ancestor Jacob. How could your water be any better than Jacob’s?” But Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water from the well will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the water that I give them will never thirst.” Amen. Indeed, Jesus said, “The water that I give them will become in them a spring of water, welling up to eternal life.”
That’s what this song is talking about: “Spring up, oh Well, inside my soul.” So not only does God want to let us drink from the living water, he wants us then to become a fountain of living water, a well that never dries up. Can you say that? “A well that never dries up.”
And the song says that I want life after all this, more abundantly. And that’s from the Scripture, John 10:10: “I have

Thank you. Wow, what a warm welcome. It’s an amazing feeling to be up here and see this. When I was asked to give the sermon by our senior pastor, I realized as I thought about it that this will be the fifth sermon I’ve ever given in my life. Can you imagine? I’ve always been the kind of person who looks for the talents that people have, and I want to support other people in bringing out those talents. So it was quite a shock for me when I realized I’m going to be the one up at this podium this time.
Good morning and welcome to Lovin’Life Ministries at the beautiful Manhattan Center in New York City. I must say that things look a lot different from up here. I think all of you should try this sometime.
I want to thank everyone from around the world who has joined us today, and I want to say a special thank you to our senior pastor and all the families from New York and New Jersey that have been supporting the development of Lovin’ Life Ministries and this amazing broadcast. Thank you.
Our senior pastor, Rev. In Jin Moon, used to always sing a song for her parents called “The Wind Beneath My Wings.” I think she sang this for her mom, our True Mother, because her mother always lifted her up and encouraged her.
Our senior pastor has been the wind beneath our wings and allowed us to fly to places that we never thought we could go years ago, don’t you think? Sometimes when I’m watching the big screen in Ohio or Indiana or some of the other states, I have wondered if the families in New York and New Jersey realize what an amazing difference they’re making in communities across America. Each Sunday as you applaud and create this high spirit, we feel it everywhere. Thank you.
In Jin Nim has been the wind beneath my wings as a district pastor, allowing me to shine and lead, and encouraging me to be excellent in whatever I choose to embark on.
Following Our Senior Pastor
I must say that in the beginning of our ministry there were some things that I did not really understand. Was that correct for all of you, too? It was something different. I was more like a groupie following a rock star. As I grew in the ministry, however, I became a partner and an owner of my faith. Our ministry has become more than a Sunday event; it has become a lifestyle, a Lovin’ Life lifestyle.
Over the last three years attendance is up, tithing is up, new members are joining. New people are being called by God to be leaders, like the Rev. Gaines in Atlanta, Cliff and Tiff. Hey, Cliff and Tiff. And Reverend Herndon, now helping us out in Ohio.
When I was thinking about our live broadcasts and the different speakers we have enjoyed, the image of Forrest Gump came to my mind – when he’s sitting at the bus stop talking about what his mama used to say. “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.”
Listening to our national staff and our district pastors has been a wonderful experience. They are all the same on the outside, like pure chocolate, but when they shared with us on Sunday we were able to discover a lot of different flavors.
Our senior pastor is a hard act to follow, with her passion for a ministry that can change lives and her sermons filled with stories of True Parents and True Family.
I have always been encouraged by her faith and her belief that we could move mountains. Today I feel like I’m standing in front of a mountain and praying that God will help me move it, so I think I have a lot of growing still to do.
She won my heart in our first district pastors’ meeting when she shared with us that she did not have to tell us what to do, that we should watch what she does and do it. Little did I know that that would lead me to a podium with all of you today. What amazing lives we live!
Today I’d like to share about “Re-Membering our Prodigals” That’s Re-Member, a phrase Reverend Cotter coined a few sermons ago
Introducing District 6 and Rev. Michael Lamson
First, however, I would like to share a little about myself.
My name is Michael Lamson, and I’m honored to be the district pastor of District 6. It’s a wonderful district comprising a group of the most interesting states. Some would consider them fly-over states until there’s an election, when everyone realizes how powerful we are. When I travel through Ohio, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky, I realize what amazing families we have in our ministry. And I have to give a big shout-out to all the families in my district. Hey, guys!
When our movement launched this new ministry, it was a really big step for some communities to switch to a live broadcast, but we did it. The communities in every state took that leap of faith, united with our senior pastor’s vision, and God rewarded us with happier, healthier communities, families, and children. And it’s amazing what we’ve done in three years.

Our senior pastor, Rev. In Jin Moon, used to always sing a song for her parents called “The Wind Beneath My Wings.” I think she sang this for her mom, our True Mother, because her mother always lifted her up and encouraged her.
Our senior pastor has been the wind beneath our wings and allowed us to fly to places that we never thought we could go years ago, don’t you think? Sometimes when I’m watching the big screen in Ohio or Indiana or some of the other states, I have wondered if the families in New York and New Jersey realize what an amazing difference they’re making in communities across America. Each Sunday as you applaud and create this high spirit, we feel it everywhere. Thank you.
In Jin Nim has been the wind beneath my wings as a district pastor, allowing me to shine and lead, and encouraging me to be excellent in whatever I choose to embark on.
Following Our Senior Pastor
I must say that in the beginning of our ministry there were some things that I did not really understand. Was that correct for all of you, too? It was something different. I was more like a groupie following a rock star. As I grew in the ministry, however, I became a partner and an owner of my faith. Our ministry has become more than a Sunday event; it has become a lifestyle, a Lovin’ Life lifestyle.
Over the last three years attendance is up, tithing is up, new members are joining. New people are being called by God to be leaders, like the Rev. Gaines in Atlanta, Cliff and Tiff. Hey, Cliff and Tiff. And Reverend Herndon, now helping us out in Ohio.
When I was thinking about our live broadcasts and the different speakers we have enjoyed, the image of Forrest Gump came to my mind – when he’s sitting at the bus stop talking about what his mama used to say. “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.”
Listening to our national staff and our district pastors has been a wonderful experience. They are all the same on the outside, like pure chocolate, but when they shared with us on Sunday we were able to discover a lot of different flavors.
Our senior pastor is a hard act to follow, with her passion for a ministry that can change lives and her sermons filled with stories of True Parents and True Family.
I have always been encouraged by her faith and her belief that we could move mountains. Today I feel like I’m standing in front of a mountain and praying that God will help me move it, so I think I have a lot of growing still to do.
She won my heart in our first district pastors’ meeting when she shared with us that she did not have to tell us what to do, that we should watch what she does and do it. Little did I know that that would lead me to a podium with all of you today. What amazing lives we live!

Introducing District 6 and Rev. Michael Lamson
First, however, I would like to share a little about myself.
My name is Michael Lamson, and I’m honored to be the district pastor of District 6. It’s a wonderful district comprising a group of the most interesting states. Some would consider them fly-over states until there’s an election, when everyone realizes how powerful we are. When I travel through Ohio, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky, I realize what amazing families we have in our ministry. And I have to give a big shout-out to all the families in my district. Hey, guys!
When our movement launched this new ministry, it was a really big step for some communities to switch to a live broadcast, but we did it. The communities in every state took that leap of faith, united with our senior pastor’s vision, and God rewarded us with happier, healthier communities, families, and children. And it’s amazing what we’ve done in three years.

Embracing Innovation: Spreading the “Breaking News” with Today’s Technology

Good morning brothers and sisters here in New York City and across this great country. Welcome to the West Coast, the blessed coast, the East Coast, and the Northeast, where a nor’easter unexpectedly hit (We had 24 inches of snow last night, even before the leaves were off the trees!). And welcome, brothers and sisters, in large congregations. In Los Angeles this morning our District Pastors are meeting, and they’re joining the congregation in watching today’s sermon at a movie theater. We have brothers and sisters in congregations all across our great country – in the Midwest, in Chicago and other cities, and in small homes. We’re an amazing congregation, so welcome, everybody!
Did you enjoy True Children’s Day and Foundation Day? Wasn’t it wonderful to see our True Parents. Father probably gave the shortest speech ever? But even so his and True Mother’s incredible love shone through.
I also bring greetings from our senior pastor, Rev. In Jin Moon, this morning, to all of you across America.
My theme this morning is how God works in unexpected ways in our lives, whereby we have to become flexible and open. Who’d have thought that Elvis would come to church? Our church is ever changing, ever growing. One thing I’ve learned is “God is totally out of the box.” Anybody who thought God was a boring figure in the sky with a long gray beard – uh, uh. No. Actually, God is dynamic. He’s young. She’s innovative. And we have to be that way, too.
Surviving “Hellfire and Damnation”
God is working in incredible ways in our lives, and we need to be open and flexible if we are going to be able to hear and experience God. I know that many of you are young too, and you also have young children. We should never underestimate what our children are thinking about. When I was seven years old, I went to a Catholic school. My family lived in the island nation of Mauritius, which is in the Indian Ocean, and I was schooled by Sister John, who looked like an eagle. She had sharp, piercing eyes. God bless Sister John. And she didn’t miss a thing.
I was just seven years old but I didn’t miss a thing, either. What I understood was that in order to go to heaven, one had to believe in Jesus. But what if you never met Jesus? What if you didn’t know? In this small island nation the people were very diverse. We had Muslims and Hindus. It was once a French colony, so we spoke French and there were French people there. So there was Catholicism, Hinduism, and Islam. At seven years old, I began to wonder, “What if you’re a really good Hindu? Can you go to heaven?”
Sister John talked about hellfire and damnation. I’m sure that in Catholic schools today it’s not like this, but at that time it was, and I remember my older sister, Vivienne, used to have tremendous nightmares about hellfire and damnation, and I began to wonder. So one day I was very brave and put up my hand in Sister John’s class. I said, “Excuse me, what if you’re a really good Hindu and you do everything Hindus are meant to do? You love your family, you love your children, you serve others. Can you go to heaven?” And of course Sister John said, “No, it doesn’t work like that.”
And I had this huge ah-ha moment, a realization dawned on me, “Wow, my heart is bigger than God’s because I’d let them in!” That’s the sort of things that seven-year-olds are thinking about. That’s why we’re a family church, and it’s so important as parents that we’re talking to our children about things that matter. That’s what I began to wonder about. And as I stayed in school, I just continued to wonder why this religion can’t answer all of my questions.
Searching for God, in and out of Catholic School
Then we moved back to Great Britain, and I continued in school. Then at 11 years old I failed the Eleven-Plus. Anybody from England knows what that means. It’s like an SAT for 11 year olds. It was a multiple-choice standardized test, and I do terrible on standardized tests because I have a creative mind. When the test gives a problem whose answer is A, B, C, or D, I’m going, “It could be A. On the other hand, it could be B if this were true, and wait a minute, no, C.” So I’m spending all this time trying to work out under what circumstances A, B, C, and D could be correct. Needless to say, I did dismally.
Of course after anyone fails the Eleven-Plus, the British system would require that the student go into vocational education. So my parents said, “We’ve got to do something about this,” and they sent me back to Catholic school, where there was a Sister John Michael who taught the religion class. I had lots of questions about religion by this time because it clearly couldn’t answer the questions I had about God and faith, but I studied hard. I was the only non-Catholic in
