Dies irae (ディエス・イレ) is an adult visual novel developed and published by Light. There are several different versions of the game.
As in most visual novels, the gameplay mostly consists of reading text on the screen (representing narration or dialogue) accompanied by images showing characters and locations. At certain points in the story, the player can choose options which influence the path, or "route", the story takes.
This game sets its storyline in alternate history, and based on Nazi Germany historical events. In 1945, upon the inevitable downfall of the Third Reich, some Nazi loyalists tried undergoing an ancient, mysterious and forbidden ritual to revive so-called "Longinus Dreizehn Orden (13 Holy Lancers)", attempting to change their doomed fate. But those Nazi loyalists became missing after the ritual has been undergone till now.
Six decades after World War II and the downfall of the Third Reich, the mystery of those resurrected phantoms summoned by those missing Nazis is still unknown. In modern Japan, the protagonist fought with his betrayed friend and become hospitalized in a psychiatry hospital; he usually dreamed nightmares of those resurrected 13 Holy Lancers and their connections to the Nazi. The protagonist also dreamed of the guillotine set by 13 Holy Lancers, which is used to execute considerable victims under their horrible and irresistible forces. The protagonist thought he has no choice but to fight back against those 13 Holy Lancers, and a horrible epic has begun...
Dies Irae was a Polish death metal band founded in 1992. Their early recordings were heavily inspired and influenced by Vader and Morbid Angel.
Since 2005 the band is on indefinite hiatus.
Dies Irae was formed in 1992 as very young death metal band featuring China (guitar), Mauser (guitar and vocals), Czarny (bass) and Gilan (drums). 1994 marked the recording of their debut demo titled "Fear of God" which was released by Serenades Records two years later. The demo was composed of typical death metal tracks and guitar variations as introductions. In 1997 Mauser joined the band Vader and Dies Irae split up. Four years later Mauser signed contract with Massive Management, whose artist roster consists of such bands as Vader, Sceptic, Decapitated and many others, and started looking for new members to his band. With help of Doc (Vader), Novy (Devilyn) and Hiro (Sceptic) the band prepared material for full debut album.
On 5 June 2000 Dies Irae entered the Selani Studio to record their debut album. Titled Immolated, it was produced by Szymon Czech, and graphically designed by Jacek Wisniewski, who had been previously responsible for several Vader's cover artworks ("Kingdom", "Black to the Blind", " Live In Japan"). Immolated was mastered at Studio 333 by Bartłomiej Kuźniak who is responsible for Vader's masters. All lyrics are written by Łukasz Szurmiński.
Martin Kukučín (real name Matej Bencúr, 17 May 1860, Jasenová, Árva County – 21 May 1928) was a Slovak prose writer, dramatist and publicist. He was the most notable representative of Slovak literary realism, and is considered one of the founders of modern Slovak prose.
He was born into a family of freemen, or soltys, the son of Ján Bencúr Juriš and his wife Zuzana, née Pašková, and had two brothers and one sister. He was educated at the Slovak 'gymnasium' in Revúca, Martin, Banská Bystrica, Kežmarok, and finished his education in Sopron. Although he wished to study theology in Bratislava, due to the anti-Slovak atmosphere prevailing at that time, he chose to study medicine in Prague instead.
After graduating and completing his internship in Bratislava, Innsbruck and Vienna, he attempted without success to find employment in Slovakia. Instead in 1893 he began to work as a doctor in the village of Selca on the island of Brač in Croatia, where he was also an active member of the cultural society Hrvatski Sastanak. In 1904, he became one of its directors. In 1896–97, he tried unsuccessfully to return to Slovakia.
Dies is a surname, and may refer to:
In Roman mythology Dies ("day") was the personification of day, and the Roman counterpart of the Greek goddess Hemera, the daughter of Nox (Night) and Scotus (Darkness).
She is the goddess of the daytime and, according to Hesiod, the daughter of Erebus and Nyx (the goddess of night). Hemera is remarked upon in Cicero's De Natura Deorum, where it is logically determined that Dies (Hemera) must be a god, if Uranus is a god. The poet Bacchylides states that Nyx and Chronos are the parents, but Hyginus in his preface to the Fabulae mentions Chaos as the mother/father and Nyx as her sister.
She was the female counterpart of her brother and consort, Aether (Light), but neither of them figured actively in myth or cult. Hyginus lists their children as Uranus, Gaia, and Thalassa (the primordial sea goddess), while Hesiod only lists Thalassa as their child.
Joshua S. Porter, better known by his stage name Josh Dies (born June 12, 1983) is an American singer, songwriter, musician and novelist. Porter is widely known as the vocalist and songwriter for the band Showbread. His debut novel, The Spinal Cord Perception, was released in December 2006 and features a dark, postmodern style similar to Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, and many other Generation X novelists. Besides several other novels, he has also authored a children's book.
Porter and Showbread also started "Raw Rock Missions," an organization designed to provide food and shelter for orphans and children with special needs.
In 1997, Porter began working with brother Patrick Porter creating and evolving the band Showbread, which became a full-time international touring act in 2002. In 2004, following several independent albums, Showbread released No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical, featuring music and lyrics written by Porter, and arranged and completed by him and his band mates. No Sir... expectantly failed to achieve commercial success. However, it was rewarded by Revolver Magazine to be the best Screamo album of the year, and Showbread’s already respectable and rabid fan base was propelled by the thousands.
