Penang is a state in Malaysia located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, by the Strait of Malacca.
Penang state is bordered by Kedah in the north and east, and Perak in the south. It is composed of two parts — Penang Island, where the seat of government is, and Seberang Perai (formerly Province Wellesley in English) on the Malay Peninsula.
Highly urbanised and industrialised, Penang is one of the most developed and economically important states in the country, as well as a thriving tourist destination. Penang has the third-highest Human Development Index in Malaysia, after the state of Selangor and the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur. Its heterogeneous population is highly diverse in ethnicity, culture, language and religion. A resident of Penang is colloquially known as a Penangite (in English),Penang lang (in the local Penang Hokkien dialect) or a Penangkaran (In Tamil)
The name of "Penang" comes from the modern Malay name Pulau Pinang, which means "island of the areca nut palm" (Areca catechu, family Palmae). The name Penang may refer either to the island of Penang (Pulau Pinang) or the state of Penang (Negeri Pulau Pinang). In Malay, Penang's capital George Town was called and labelled in old maps as Tanjung Penaga (Cape Penaigre), named after the many ballnut trees (also known as Alexandrian laurels, Calophyllum inophyllum) on the coast, but now usually shortened as Tanjung (the Cape).
Georgetown or George Town may refer to:

Quang Vinh was born on 18 May 1982 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He became popular with Mẹ hiền yêu dấu, Cho con, Thằng Bờm, Tây Du Ký, Trăng tròn, Tuổi của trăng, Cô giáo mới của em, Heal the world..., and was known as Hoàng Tử Sơn Ca (the Nightingale Prince).
In 1998, Quang Vinh went to the United States to study at Monsignor Bonner High School, Pennsylvania. Upon realising his dream of becoming a professional singer, he returned to Vietnam in 2000. He signed with Kim Loi Studio and his first album, Những Ngày Xưa Yêu Dấu, was released in 2001.
When his contract with Kim Loi Studio expired in 2003, Quang Vinh decided to change his music style and public image. His 4th album, Tình Yêu Tìm Thấy, earned him various prestigious music awards as the upcoming artist in 2003. His first live concert Tình Yêu Tìm Thấy in Hanoi was a success with more than 10,000 fans attending.

Malaysia (i/məˈleɪʒə/ mə-LAY-zhə or i/məˈleɪsiə/ mə-LAY-see-ə; Malaysian pronunciation: [məlejsiə]) is a federal constitutional monarchy located in Southeast Asia. It consists of thirteen states and three federal territories and has a total landmass of 329,847 square kilometres (127,350 sq mi) separated by the South China Sea into two similarly sized regions, Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia (Malaysian Borneo). Peninsular Malaysia shares a land and maritime border with Thailand and maritime borders with Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. East Malaysia shares land and maritime borders with Brunei and Indonesia and a maritime border with the Philippines and Vietnam. The capital city is Kuala Lumpur, while Putrajaya is the seat of the federal government. With a population of over 30 million, Malaysia is the 44th most populous country. The southernmost point of continental Eurasia, Tanjung Piai, is in Malaysia. Located in the tropics, Malaysia is one of 17 megadiverse countries on earth, with large numbers of endemic species.
George Town (Chinese: 乔治市; pinyin: qiáozhì shì Tamil: ஜோர்ஜ் டவுன்) is the capital city of the Malaysian state of Penang, located on the north-east corner of the island. It had an estimated population of 500,000 as of 2010. The metropolitan area (which consists of Jelutong, Sungai Pinang, Sungai Nibong, Gelugor, Air Itam, Tanjung Bungah and Tanjung Tokong) has a population of 2.5 million, which makes it the second largest metropolitan area and the biggest northern metropolis in Malaysia. Together with Alor Setar and Malacca City, it is one of the Malaysian oldest cities in the Straits of Malacca since its foundation by Francis Light, who was a captain and trader for the British East India Company (EIC) after being instructed by his company, Jourdain Sullivan and de Souza to establish presence in the Malay Archipelago.George Town is also second largest city in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur.
Light gained control of Penang Island through a treaty negotiated with the Sultan of Kedah, although in the early stages of negotiation the Sultan refused to cede the island. The Fort Cornwallis was then established and he was successful in increasing the island import values and settlement population especially with the free trade policy the British used at the time. The Sultan of Kedah tried to regain control of the area when he saw the British had failed to provide protection to them as promised earlier in the treaty they had signed when the Sultan was attacked by the Siamese, the plan was however ended with a failure when Light implemented night raids on the Sultan's fortress. Prior to its successful trading post, many Chinese traders began to settle in the town as well to other areas in Penang Island to participate in agriculture and to manage plantations. This was continued under the administration of Straits Settlements with the migration of more Chinese together with Indian workers prior to the Industrial Revolution in Britain.

After our trip to Langkawi, we headed to Georgetown, in Penang, Malaysia. One day we walked around and did all these things in a single day. More coming on: http://migrationology.com/ Penang, Malaysia is an island just off the coast of the West Coast of Malaysia. It’s one of the most famous areas of Malaysia, especially known for its rich and diverse culture and for its food - many people come to Penang just to eat - as did I. Ying and I arrived to Penang from Langkawi, and we stayed in Penang for about a week, doing some work, and eating out way through the city. One day though, we decided to put on our shoes and go to visit as many of the attractions in the center of the city as we could. So this travel videos is an overview of the top things to do in Georgetown, Penang, but also a trav...
Date: 19 - 21 December 2016. A trip to the "Pearl of the Orient" - The island state of Penang, Malaysia. We visited locations mostly around the capital city of Georgetown (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), as well as Penang Hill a.k.a. Bukit Bendera, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Despite experiencing some depressing (rainy) weather on the second day, overall, this trip has been nothing short of amazing. I have made it a point to come back to Penang next time in order to properly photograph this beautiful place. Enjoy! Don't forget to comment, like, and subscribe! Penang, the island-state off the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia, is a melting pot of cultures, ethnicities, traditions and religions. As a historical trading port, life there has been determined by migration for hundreds of years, and ethnic Malays, Indians and Chinese live together side by side - leading to a unique mix of cultures and food. "Each of them respect each other's religion, each other's customs and their habits. In Malaysia, we have this word called tolerance. You have to tolerate each other in order to live in harmony," says Teresa Pereira Capol, a Heritage Trust guide. For many of Penang's residents, food has evolved to become an art form, a social spectacle, a live display of one's ethnic roots. But for most of the street vendors, life is harsh and working hou...

Penang is the home to wonderful history, friendly locals and delicious meals. A definite attraction in northern Malaysia, Penang is represents a mixture of traditional and modern culture. What is really synonym with Penang is the food! Ask Malaysians and many would have traveled to Penang just to savour the delicious meals. It was a pity that I only managed to feature a few places and I bet others will tell that one stall is better than the other. But you see, that IS Penang. Too much good food! All we ever hear about Penang was EATING! Much to our surprise there was a lot more to do in Penang than just eat until you pop. Walking through the quaint streets of Georgetown was an adventure in itself. Penang is definitely a way different vibe compared to Kuala Lumpur. I got way more of a typical South East Asian city vibe out of Penang, and by that I mean, the smells, dirty streets, critters etc.. However, this didn't detract from an excellent experience of the city. The first thing we did was rent a motorbike and get a lay of the land. Aside from the beaches (which were nowhere near as nice as Langkawi: watch our video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqjZrlsQzBQ) most action in Penang takes place in and around Georgetown. Georgetown has famous street art scattered through t...

Penang 6th-9th of March. It is such a beautiful island which is really overlooked when it comes to backpackers! However, that is a good thing as it is not spoilt or become too touristy! Instagram- jennyfoden Blog- jennyflorenceee.wordpress.com Thank you! Xx
Malaysia Penang city guide tells the the island is a fascinating fusion of the East and West, that embraces modernity while retaining its traditions and old world charm. This is absolutely true. Located at the intersection of Asia’s great kingdoms and Europe's powerful colonial empires, Penang has long served as the link between Asia’s two halves and an important outlet to the markets of Europe and the Middle East. Before the 20th century merchants mostly came to Penang https://goo.gl/maps/QU99Lrut9ro for the merchandise, this is why the island is known as 'Pearl of the Orient'. The best of Georgetown attractions is total fusion of Chinese, Malay, Indian and other races, evidence of which is apparent everywhere, from cuisine to architecture. Oh Banana co.
We really love you and we need you
And oh banana co.
We'd really love to believe you
But everything's underground
We gotta dig it up somehow
Yeah yeah
Oh she said "No go"
She said she'd like to
She's seen you
But no, no go
She knows if you die then we all do
And everything's underground
We've gotta dig it up somehow
Yeah yeah
Everything's burning down
We gotta put it out somehow
