NFF Condemns the Murder of acclaimed Journalist Gauri Lankesh

Press Release

06 – 09 – 2017

The National Fishworkers Forum strongly condemns the brutal murder of activist and journalist Gauri Lankesh, the chief Editor of Gauri Lankesh Patrike. Gauri was murdered in cold blood by ‘Unidentified gunmen’, who everyone knows represent the communal and corrupt forces who she fought all her life. It is also clear that the murder was not just to muzzle the truth that reflects in her writings and her work, but also an attack on her ideological beliefs which is anti-thesis to the current regimes’ ideology.

The Fishworkers’ movement in India owes it to Gauri and many other such courageous journalists and supporters of people’s movements across India, for keeping up the history and trajectory of the battle for democracy, peace and human rights. We believe that the culture of hatred, communal venom, corporate crime and state terrorism that’s spreading across India has taken the life of this gritty activist journalist.

We demand that timely investigation is conducted and the culprits and those are truly behind this murder, along with those who executed it, are brought before the arm of law and prosecuted
