Talk about "Overhaulin"... These Russian guys over at Volga -a company which will probably close in 2007, seem to have put Chip Foose and his "Overhaulin" TV Series to a shame with their new product, the Volga V8 Roadster.
As you can see from the development phase pictures, this 60's idesign nspired roadster is actually a camouflaged BMW 650i Cabriolet ! And note that this is not the first time that Volga has attempted and act like this. Back in 2001, the Russians produced the Volga V12 Coupe which was entirely based on the BMW 850CSi Coupe -they even left the Bavarian Coupe's interior practically intact !
Like the Coupe V12, the V8 Roadster was made to honour a classic model of Volga, the unknown to the west, Volga GA3-21P -although that car was just a humble everyday vehicle as you can see in the pictures bellow.
Besides the fact that the Roadster V8 wears BMW 650i's 368 Hp 4,8 litre V8 engine we haven't got any other specs, but you have to admit that the folks over at Volga have yet again done a marvellous job in designing this car!
Volga V12 Coupe Facts and Specs: Made to honour Volga's classic GA3-219, the V12 Coupe was unveiled in 2001. According to the company, the BMW 850CSi based Coupe V12 used the Bavarian 380 Hp 5.7 litre V12 engine which was was good enough to speed it up to 100 km/h (62 mph) from stance in 6,6 sec while for the quarter mile (0-400 m) it needed 14,7 sec.

История этой машинки началась в Голландии, зашёл
я в книжный за свеженькими журнальчиками по
дизайну авто и по хот-родингу, листал один красочный журнал со всеми новинками дизайна и нарываюсь на волжанку 21ую от компании Алевел. Внутри 850 BMW и V12 под капотом.
Изрядно приболел я тогда чудной идеей модернизировать столь солидный, не только в СССР но и для других стран знающих толк в автомобилестроении, автомобиль. Хотя у меня уже была готовая задумка строительства машинки с нуля, а это тянуло за собой огромную тяжбу документального "геморроя", я не говорю о самом строительстве. Волга показалась мне недорогим шансом сделать что-то интересное, тем более что линии кузова 21 ой сами по себе достойные, да и позволяют своими плавными формами прогуляться
по другим дизайн-культурам других стран ( голодуха в советском автопроме сказалась))).
Так сидя с карандашом сошлись четыре стиля: Конечно сыграл большую роль американских ХОТ- РОДИНГ с мускул карами, техникой преобразования из обычных "тачек" делать "монстров".
Второй стиль взялся сам собой из-за неамериканских размеров и красивых плавных линий хорошо просматриваются европейские формы, а точнее английские, третьими меня дернули азиаты с техникой увеличенных порогов и аэродинамических спойлеров.
Ну и конечно мощь родины своей СССР.
Но это было только начало…
Машина не достроена хотя имеет уже хозяина. Когда кузовные работы были закончены и я готовил её к покраске мне припомнился один человек, (одесский американец), с которым я был раньше знаком. Он привозил образцы
очень эффектных красок из Америки, да и всерьёз выдавал себя за великого знатока хот-родинга. Пригласив его в свою мастерскую вместо красок я услышал восторги и разговор пошёл о продаже машины сразу и объединению наших сил. О временах кризиса 2008г. рассказывать не приходится, короче я сдался и
подарил ему очень серьёзный процент за продажу моей машины.
С первой выставки машина была продана, как прект ещё на год. Затем мой "компаньон" обманом уговорил порезать свою машину, якобы этого требует заказчик.
И я построил расширенную на 15см. и удлинённую на 21см. версию на старой американской раме от "Бьюика электры"
( лучше-бы я построил другую машину). Короче всеми правдами и неправдами компаньон выпроваживал меня и однажды я не выдержал и оставил своё детище, с возможностью контроля за ходом строительства.
Сейчас я готовлюсь сразу к трем новым проектам, в том числе и Волга купе — следующего поколения. Да по 21ой проектов разных неиспользованных никем раннее у меня в достатке (да и не только по 21ой).
Всем желающим самостоятельно строить автомобили своей мечты желаю терпения, понимания от своей семьёй, решительности, и великой удачи.

Volga River
The Volga (Russian: Во́лга; IPA: [ˈvolɡə]) is the longest river in Europe; it is also Europe's largest river in terms of discharge and watershed. It flows through central Russia and into the Caspian Sea, and is widely viewed as the national river of Russia.

The Slavic name is a loan translation of earlier Scythian Rā (Ῥᾶ) "Volga", literally "wetness", cognate with Avestan Raŋhā "mythical stream" (also compare the derivation Sogdian r’k "vein, blood vessel" (*raha-ka),Persian رگ rag "vein") and Sanskrit rasā́- "liquid, juice; mythical river". In Depth
In Depth is a three-hour program that airs monthly on C-SPAN 2 as part of their Book TV programming, and features a different writer each month. Each interview covers the breadth of that author's writing career, and incorporates viewer calls and e-mails. The show is typically broadcast live the first Sunday of each month. The first program was on February 6, 2000, and was a discussion with historian John Lukacs. For the first several years of the show, episodes were not produced during the summer months.

Jay Leno
James Douglas Muir "Jay" Leno (/ˈlɛnoʊ/; born April 28, 1950) is an American comedian, actor, writer, producer, voice actor, and television host. He was the host of NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno from 1992 to 2009. Beginning in September 2009, Leno started a primetime talk show, titled The Jay Leno Show, which aired weeknights at 10:00 p.m. ET, also on NBC.
After The Jay Leno Show was canceled in January 2010 amid a host controversy, Leno returned to host The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on March 1, 2010. He hosted his last episode of The Tonight Show on February 6, 2014. That year, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
Early life
Leno was born in New Rochelle, New York. His homemaker mother, Catherine (née Muir; 1911–1993), was born in Greenock, Scotland, and came to the United States at age 11. His father, Angelo (1910–1994), was an insurance salesman who was born in New York, to immigrants from Flumeri, Italy. Leno grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, and obtained a bachelor's degree in speech therapy from Emerson College, where he started a comedy club in 1973. His older brother, Patrick (May 12, 1940 – October 6, 2002), was a Vietnam War veteran who worked as an attorney.

Jay Leno's Garage
Jay Leno's Garage is an American web and television series about motor vehicles, primarily cars and motorbikes starring Jay Leno, the former host of The Tonight Show. Formerly a web series for NBC.com, Jay Leno's Garage morphed into a special that aired on CNBC in August 2014 and the show became a weekly prime time series on the channel in 2015.
Leno does car and motorcycle reviews on classic cars, super cars like the McLaren P1, restored cars, vintage and sports cars. Jay Leno's Big Dog Garage is located in Burbank, California, near Bob Hope Airport. In 2011 the show won a Primetime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Special Class — Short-Format Nonfiction Program".

BMW 6 Series (E63)
The BMW E63/E64 6 Series is the chassis designation for the second generation BMW 6 Series. The BMW E63/E64 replaced the BMW E24 6 Series 14 years after production had ended, whilst adding a convertible to the lineup. The BMW E63/E64 6 Series uses a shortened chassis from the BMW E60 5 Series (which formed the fifth generation BMW 5 Series), and shares similar functions including the BMW iDrive. The BMW E63/E64 6 Series' design was based on the BMW Z9 Concept, whose exterior was redesigned by Adrian Van Hooydonk, whilst David Carp designed the interior of the car. The BMW E63/E64 6 Series was introduced in autumn of 2003 in the Frankfurt Auto Show, and premiered in the North American Auto Show.
The development process of the BMW E63/E64 6 Series was documented in a three-part documentary by the Discovery Channel Canada Series named Birth of a Sports Car. The three episodes were organised from design, testing and production respectively.
630C/i and 635d models were not sold in America, and were only sold in Europe and other parts of the world, whilst all 645Ci and 650i models were available to all. Production started on 18 March 2004 and ended on July 31, 2010, being replaced by the 2011 BMW F06/F12/F13 6 Series, whilst adding a four-door coupe called the Gran Coupe to the lineup.

Volga V8 Roadster Russians Overhaul a BMW 650i Cabriolet

These Russian guys over at Volga -a company which will probably close in 2007, seem to have put Chip Foose and his "Overhaulin" TV Series to a shame with their new product, the Volga V8 Roadster. As you can see from the development phase pictures, this 60's idesign nspired roadster is actually a camouflaged BMW 650i Cabriolet ! And note that this is not the first time that Volga has attempted and act like this. Back in 2001, the Russians produced the Volga V12 Coupe which was entirely based on the BMW 850CSi Coupe -they even left the Bavarian Coupe's interior practically intact ! Like the Coupe V12, the V8 Roadster was made to honour a classic model of Volga, the unknown to the west, Volga GA3-21P -although that car was just a humble ever...

Внутри 850 BMW и V12 под капотом. Изрядно приболел я тогда чудной идеей модернизировать столь солидный, не только в СССР но и для других стран знающих толк в автомобилестроении, автомобиль. Хотя у меня уже была готовая задумка строительства машинки с нуля, а это тянуло за собой огромную тяжбу документального "геморроя", я не говорю о самом строительстве. Волга показалась мне недорогим шансом сделать что-то интересно...

According to the company, the BMW 850CSi based Coupe V12 used the Bavarian 380 Hp 5.7 litre V12 engine which was was good enough to speed it up to 100 km/h (62 mph) from stance in 6,6 sec while for the quarter mile (0-400 m) it needed 14,7 sec.

Волга показалась мне недорогим шансом сделать что-то интересное, тем более что линии кузова 21 ой сами по себе достойные, да и позволяют своими плавными формами прогуляться
по другим дизайн-культурам других стран ( голодуха в советском автопроме сказалась))).

Второй стиль взялся сам собой из-за неамериканских размеров и красивых плавных линий хорошо просматриваются европейские формы, а точнее английские, третьими меня дернули азиаты с техникой увеличенных порогов и аэродинамических спойлеров.
Ну и конечно мощь родины своей СССР.
Но это было только начало…

очень эффектных красок из Америки, да и всерьёз выдавал себя за великого знатока хот-родинга. Пригласив его в свою мастерскую вместо красок я услышал восторги и разговор пошёл о продаже машины сразу и объединению наших сил. О временах кризиса 2008г. рассказывать не приходится, короче я сдался и
подарил ему очень серьёзный процент за продажу моей машины.
С первой выставки машина была продана, как прект ещё на год. Затем мой "компаньон" обманом уговорил порезать свою машину, якобы этого требует заказчик.
И я построил расширенную на 15см. и удлинённую на 21см. версию на старой американской раме от "Бьюика электры"
( лучше-бы я построил другую машину). Короче всеми правдами и неправдами компаньон выпроваживал меня и однажды я не выдержал и оставил своё детище, с возможностью контроля за ходом строительства.
Сейчас я готовлюсь сразу к трем новым проектам, в том числе и Волга купе — следующего поколения. Да по 21ой проектов разных неиспользованных никем раннее у меня в достатке (да и не только по 21ой).
Всем желающим самостоятельно строить автомобили своей мечты желаю терпения, понимания от своей семьёй, решительности, и великой удачи.

История этой машинки началась в Голландии, зашёл
я в книжный за свеженькими журнальчиками по
дизайну авто и по хот-родингу, листал один красочный журнал со всеми новинками дизайна и нарываюсь на волжанку 21ую от компании Алевел. Внутри 850 BMW и V12 под капотом.
Изрядно приболел я тогда чудной идеей модернизировать столь солидный, не только в СССР но и для других стран знающих толк в автомобилестроении, автомобиль. Хотя у меня уже была готовая задумка строительства машинки с нуля, а это тянуло за собой огромную тяжбу документального "геморроя", я не говорю о самом строительстве. Волга показалась мне недорогим шансом сделать что-то интересное, тем более что линии кузова 21 ой сами по себе достойные, да и позволяют своими плавными формами прогуляться
по другим дизайн-культурам других стран ( голодуха в советском автопроме сказалась))).

In the 18th century, two major churches and a bell tower were built on the island, which are now known as Kizhi Pogost. In the 1950s, dozens of historical wooden buildings were moved to the island from various parts of Karelia for preservation purposes. Nowadays, the entire island and the nearby area form a national open-air museum with more than 80 historical wooden structures. The most famous is the Kizhi Pogost, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Minster Of Ulm is a masterpiece of European Gothic and, rising up a hundred and sixty one metres, its church tower is the highest in the world. Donauwörth developed from a fishing settlement on the Wörnitz island of Ried from where the river flows into the Danube. In 877 A.D. a bridge was built across the Danube and an intersection of European trade routes was created. Linz, the capital city of Upper Austria, owes its good fortune to its strategic location at the junction of the Traun. On the main square, an ornately decorated Trinity Column marks the spot where the mediaeval Salt Road reached the market square. The Babenbergs built the city as a border fortress against the Bavarians. The capital of Hungary, Budapest, is the Pearl On The Danube, an ancient international city. High above the banks of the Danube is Buda’s Castle Hill with its imposing Castle Palace. The Danube ends in the port town of Sulina Delta in which a cathedral serves as a reminder of liberation from the Turks. In this natural universe of land and water, which originated almost ten thousand years ago, nearly three thousand kilometres of river come to an end. The Danube is a multicultural European lifeline, a magnificent waterway that flows through both history and time.

Far from the city bustle, the Astrakhan nature reserve is a peaceful oasis.
Created in 1919, this vast expanse of land 30,000 kilometres square is a wildlife paradise. Humans are few and far between. The only people we come across are fishermen. They come here all year round from across Russia and even from abroad.
"Fishing here is excellent. There's plenty of fish of all kinds. You just have to know how to catch it," says fisherman Vladimir Razin.
From their camp sites on the banks of the Volga river, fishermen take an hour-long boat ride to where the river runs into the Caspian sea. Igor Belyakov, a local, has been coming here with his son since Artyom since he was five. For them, it's about more than just catching fish.
"When you stand here, you feel like you are one with nature. The thread, the fishing line, becomes a bond - it makes you feel a connection to the huge river and the world around you," says Igor, a journalist and fishing expert.
He says fishing isn't about killing animals - he returns his catch to the river. For him, it's an intellectual game. The aim is to trick the fish's instincts - the challenge includes choosing the right bait, tracking the fish and using the right technique to catch it.
"You get this crazy adrenaline rush when the fish bites and you feel the tug on your line. All you want is to catch it, you want to be the best, and you want it to be a big fish," says Igor's son Artyom.
Like many others, Igor and Artyom are doing this for fun: they're aiming for a big catch of four kilos or more, but mostly, they just enjoy the process.
For many locals, however, this is how their earn a living. Their catch is sold and shipped to canning factories onshore.
Sergey Andreyev, a local fisherman, isn't satisfied with what's in his net: "That's a poor catch. We can do better. The weather is bad, so there isn't much fish," he says.

But it's not just the weather that's to blame: large fish are growing scarce. Igor blames poaching and overfishing. He says some of those who come here from abroad - speardivers, in particular - get carried away and kill a lot of valuable fish.

Far from the city bustle, the Astrakhan nature reserve is a peaceful oasis.
Created in 1919, this vast expanse of land 30,000 kilometres square is a wildlife paradise. Humans are few and far between. The only people we come across are fishermen. They come here all year round from across Russia and even from abroad.
"Fishing here is excellent. There's plenty of fish of all kinds. You just have to know how to catch it," says fisherman Vladimir Razin.
From their camp sites on the banks of the Volga river, fishermen take an hour-long boat ride to where the river runs into the Caspian sea. Igor Belyakov, a local, has been coming here with his son since Artyom since he was five. For them, it's about more than just catching fish.
"When you stand here, you feel like you are one with nature. The thread, the fishing line, becomes a bond - it makes you feel a connection to the huge river and the world around you," says Igor, a journalist and fishing expert.
He says fishing isn't about killing animals - he returns his catch to the river. For him, it's an intellectual game. The aim is to trick the fish's instincts - the challenge includes choosing the right bait, tracking the fish and using the right technique to catch it.
"You get this crazy adrenaline rush when the fish bites and you feel the tug on your line. All you want is to catch it, you want to be the best, and you want it to be a big fish," says Igor's son Artyom.
Like many others, Igor and Artyom are doing this for fun: they're aiming for a big catch of four kilos or more, but mostly, they just enjoy the process.
For many locals, however, this is how their earn a living. Their catch is sold and shipped to canning factories onshore.
Sergey Andreyev, a local fisherman, isn't satisfied with what's in his net: "That's a poor catch. We can do better. The weather is bad, so there isn't much fish," he says.

The modern Karelian Republic was founded as an autonomous republic within the Russian SFSR by the Resolution of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee (VTsIK) of June 27, 1923 and by the Decree of the VTsIK and the Council of People's Commissars of July 25, 1923 from the Karelian Labor Commune.

Situated at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosl Rivers some 250 km north-east of Moscow, the historic city of Yaroslavl developed into a major commercial centre from the 11th century. It is renowned for its numerous 17th-century churches and is an outstanding example of the urban planning reform Empress Catherine the Great ordered for the whole of Russia in 1763. While keeping some of its significant historic structures, the town was renovated in the neoclassical style on a radial urban master plan. It has also kept elements from the 16th century in the Spassky Monastery, one of the oldest in the Upper Volga region, built on the site of a pagan temple in the late 12th century but reconstructed over time.

Yaroslavl is situated on the north-eastern side of this 'ring' and is the largest city in its chain. The Volga–Baltic Waterway, formerly known as the Mariinsk Canal System (Russian: Мариинская водная система), is a series of canals and rivers in Russia which link the Volga River with the Baltic Sea. Its overall length between Cherepovets and Lake Onega is 368 kilometres (229 mi).
Originally constructed in the early 19th century, the system was rebuilt for larger vessels in the 1960s, becoming a part of the Unified Deep Water System of European Russia.
The original name "Mariinsky" is the credit to Empress Maria Feodorovna, the second wife of Emperor Paul I of Russia.
Volga–Baltic Canal improvement
=========================
In Soviet times, the Mariinsk canal system was constantly improved. Two locks were built on the Svir River (in 1936 and 1952); 3 locks were built on the Sheksna River. Major improvement of the Volga–Baltic Waterway took place in 1960–1964, and the new Volga–Baltic Waterway was opened on 5 June 1964. 39 old wooden locks were replaced with 7 new locks, and one parallel lock was built later in 1995. The locks' limiting dimensions are 210 m long, 17.6 m wide and 4.2 m deep, allowing passage of river-sea ships of up to 5000 tons displacement. Such ships were able to sail directly across the big lakes instead of using the bypass canals. Typical travel time for Cherepovets – Saint Petersburg route decreased to 2.5–3 days from 10–15 days.
The new canal route sometimes follows the route of the old Mariinsk system and sometimes diverges from it. Six of the canal's eight locks are located along 35 km of the northern slope, with a total lift of 80 metres. The only 2 locks (parallel) on the southern slope, with a lift of 13 metres are located near Sheksna on the Sheksna River, 50 km upstream from Cherepovets. The canal route on the northern slope follows the Vytegra River flooded riverbed. The summit pound of the canal between Pakhomovo locks on Vytegra River and Sheksna Reservoir dam is 278 km long. It includes an artificial divide canal (40 km long), Kovzha River, Lake Beloye, and Sheksna River. The route of the southern slope follows the Sheksna River, where it is in the backwater area of Rybinsk Reservoir.
Lake Beloye (Vologda Oblast)

Lake Beloye is a lake in the northwestern part of Vologda Oblast in Russia. Administratively, the lake is divided between Belozersky District (south) and Vashkinsky District (north) of Vologda Oblast. The town of Belozersk, is located on its coast. In terms of area, Lake Beloye is the second natural lake of Vologda Oblast (behind Lake Onega), and the third lake also behind the Rybinsk Reservoir. It is one of the ten biggest natural lakes in Europe.

The basin of the lake includes parts of Belozersky, Vashkinsky, Babayevsky, and Vytegorsky Districts of Vologda Oblast, as well as minor areas in Kargopolsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast. Most of the basin lies north of the lake, in the Andoma Hills, and includes smaller lakes, many of them being of glacial origin. These lakes include Lake Kovzhskoye, Lake Kemskoye, Lake Kushtozero, Lake Sholskoye, Lake Druzhinnoye, and, south of Lake Beloye, Lake Lozskoye.
The lake has an approximately round shape with a diameter of 46 kilometres (29 mi). Its area is 1,130 square kilometres (440 sq mi), and the area of its basin is 14,000 square kilometres (5,400 sq mi). Lake Vozhe drains into the Sheksna River, which is a tributary of the Rybinsk Reservoir of the Volga River. The Sheksna flows out of the eastern corner of the lake. The main tributaries of Lake Beloye are the Kovzha, the Kema, and the Megra.
The lake and the Belozersky Canal around it are a part of the Volga–Baltic Waterway. The Belozersky Canal was constructed to connect the Sheksna and the Kovzha Rivers in order to bypass Lake Beloye, where sometimes strong wind occur. The canal follows the southern and the western coasts of the lake.

The new canal route sometimes follows the route of the old Mariinsk system and sometimes diverges from it. Six of the canal's eight locks are located along 35 km of the northern slope, with a total lift of 80 metres. The only 2 locks (parallel) on the southern slope, with a lift of 13 metres are located near Sheksna on the Sheksna River, 50 km upstream from Cherepovets. The canal route on the northern slope follows the Vytegra River flooded riverbed. The summit pound of the canal between Pakhomovo locks on Vytegra River and Sheksna Reservoir dam is 278 km long. It includes an artificial divide canal (40 km long), Kovzha River, Lake Beloye, and Sheksna River. The route of the southern slope follows the Sheksna River, where it is in the backwater area of Rybinsk Reservoir.

Lake Beloye is a lake in the northwestern part of Vologda Oblast in Russia. Administratively, the lake is divided between Belozersky District (south) and Vashkinsky District (north) of Vologda Oblast. The town of Belozersk, is located on its coast. In terms of area, Lake Beloye is the second natural lake of Vologda Oblast (behind Lake Onega), and the third lake also behind the Rybinsk Reservoir. It is one of the ten biggest natural lakes in Europe.

The basin of the lake includes parts of Belozersky, Vashkinsky, Babayevsky, and Vytegorsky Districts of Vologda Oblast, as well as minor areas in Kargopolsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast. Most of the basin lies north of the lake, in the Andoma Hills, and includes smaller lakes, many of them being of glacial origin. These lakes include Lake Kovzhskoye, Lake Kemskoye, Lake Kushtozero, Lake Sholskoye, Lake Druzhinnoye, and, south of Lake Beloye, Lake Lozskoye.
The lake has an approximately round shape with a diameter of 46 kilometres (29 mi). Its area is 1,130 square kilometres (440 sq mi), and the area of its basin is 14,000 square kilometres (5,400 sq mi). Lake Vozhe drains into the Sheksna River, which is a tributary of the Rybinsk Reservoir of the Volga River. The Sheksna flows out of the eastern corner of the lake. The main tributaries of Lake Beloye are the Kovzha, the Kema, and the Megra.
The lake and the Belozersky Canal around it are a part of the Volga–Baltic Waterway. The Belozersky Canal was constructed to connect the Sheksna and the Kovzha Rivers in order to bypass Lake Beloye, where sometimes strong wind occur. The canal follows the southern and the western coasts of the lake.
