Yellowstone National Park (Arapaho: Henihco'oo or Héetíhco'oo) is a national park located primarily in the U.S. state of Wyoming, although it also extends into Montana and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone, the first National Park in the U.S. and widely held to be the first national park in the world, is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular features in the park. It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is the most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.
Native Americans have lived in the Yellowstone region for at least 11,000 years. Aside from visits by mountain men during the early-to-mid-19th century, organized exploration did not begin until the late 1860s. Management of the park originally fell under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Interior. However, the U.S. Army was subsequently commissioned to oversee management of Yellowstone for a 30-year period between 1886 and 1916. In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which had been created the previous year. Hundreds of structures have been built and are protected for their architectural and historical significance, and researchers have examined more than 1,000 archaeological sites.
A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.
Old Faithful is a cone geyser located in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, United States. Old Faithful was named in 1870 during the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition and was the first geyser in the park to receive a name. It is one of the most predictable geographical features on Earth, erupting every 35 to 120 minutes. The geyser, as well as the nearby Old Faithful Inn, is part of the Old Faithful Historic District.
On the afternoon of September 18, 1870, the members of the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition traveled down the Firehole River from the Kepler Cascades and entered the Upper Geyser Basin. The first geyser they saw was Old Faithful. In his 1871 Scribner's account of the expedition, Nathaniel P. Langford wrote:
In the early days of the park, Old Faithful was often used as a laundry:
Eruptions can shoot 3,700 to 8,400 US gallons (14,000 to 32,000 L) of boiling water to a height of 106 to 185 feet (32 to 56 m) lasting from 1.5 to 5 minutes. The average height of an eruption is 145 feet (44 m). Intervals between eruptions can range from 45 to 125 minutes, averaging 66.5 minutes in 1939, slowly increasing to an average of 90 minutes apart today. The time between eruptions has a bimodal distribution, with the mean interval being either 65 or 91 minutes.

Josh Sigurdson and John Sneisen report from Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park on the alarming number of earthquakes striking the super volcano over the past week. If Yellowstone's super volcano were to burst, it would forever change the face of the earth. It could lead to the extinction of life on earth. But the question is, is the volcano ready to burst? The top experts claim it's overdue by about 200,000 years, but is it? What do these experts really know? Doesn't nature know better? Josh and John dig into the realities of the inevitable super volcano and why it proves humanity to be quite insignificant. Is this a depressing revelation? No. If anything, it's inspirational. It just means we as humans need to live our life to the fullest. Enjoy the little moments and search for ...

Too much censoring continues at Yellowstone Caldera, don't panic. Or don;t want people to panic? Nothing can be done but to watch and hope this activity settles down. The recent swarm that stated on June 12th has produced hundreds if not thousands of small and moderate earthquakes and the ground rises from the pressure of the magma rising.
Henery Hesler said there would be hundreds to thousands of earthquakes before a eruption a day earthquake as large as a M4.5 or greater. Is this happening now? Time will tell. This swam has lasted longer than past swarms I have seen. It started on Monday. Watch his Q&A; here. He retired shortly after say's things to a local TV station he probably shouldn't have https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/photosmultimedia/qa-volcano.htm

I recently got brought onto this project by PhotoElectric to complete the interview shooting and the edit of this piece for Michelin. This was an internal announcement about Michelin's partnership with Yellowstone National Park and a new travel guide that Michelin sponsored. Had to combine all sorts of footage... b-roll captured by Toyota's production team, footage from a Michelin production team, and the footage I shot in the North American Headquarters. Very fun piece to put together! Contact: csbrank@gmail.com
There’s a sound deep inside
And it feels just like thunder
Like the rushing of white water
And it’s bursting in your head
There’s a fist around your heart
And it’s grip is getting tighter
And the sweat upon your face is running
Burning in your eyes
There’s no one there to help you now
This time you’re really on your own
There’s no one there to show you how
You have to find ... find your own way home
Caught in the spirit of the age
I rode along the wave
Accomplice to the avarice
The master and the slave
I played my role so easily
Wore my costumes well
And slapped and stabbed the backs of players
Playing the kiss-and-sell
And in this this life of give and take
You know it’s better to receive
And at the offer of an outstretched hand
I’d ask what can you do, what can you do for me
Ambition take me by the hand
And guide me through the shifting sands
Lead me to that promised land
Where everyman’s a king
Oh, feet of clay!
Don’t fail me now
There has to be a way some how
Two steps forward, three steps back
Break my heart, an art attack!
Show me everything I lack, things I lack ...
Seems to me, this seemed to be
The only way that finally
Tight-closed eyes would every see
Cracks begin to show
Swim up-stream, against the tide
Choke on faith and swallow pride
To find a new self, deep inside
That I don’t know
I don’t know!
Parsons and priests will look after your soul
But only you can exercise your self-control
And there are people who make history
While most read history books
Whilst some attract admiring glances
Most are scared to look
And if, just by some miracle, we see the light
I hope to God it’s bright enough
To highlight wrong from right
And will the signs for ‘up’ and ‘down’
Be clear enough to show?
And will we know the difference?
I don’t know!
I don’t know!
And now those days have gone,
Consigned to someone else’s memory
Embrace the changes still to come
Exploring every possibility
No shame the glory days have gone!
Farewell to broken dreams and chances missed
Farewell to shallow smiles and hollow hearts
And long forgotten promises
And now it dawned, I watched the sunrise
From the window of another day
I felt the shackles that had bound me,
Heavy, lighten, break and fade away
And if the future is an open road
I think I’ve learned to read the signs
And if the future is an open book
I’ve learned to read between the lines
