Youth unemployment remains a major political and socio-economic challenge in Africa,despite the recent strong growth performance of many African countries. But increasing research is showing that e-commerce could be an extremely viable route to dealing with this problem. It is now possible for a person in Kenya to buy goods from a company in Dubai, to be delivered to a person in Hawaii, and all of this is possible with much less capital than before. And as more African youth are challenged to take up opportunities E-Commerce has to offer , they are increasingly garnering attention and encouragement from experts in this field, most recently exhibited in the visit by Alibaba's Jack Ma to Kenya and Rwanda.
So with this in mind, are the young people of the continent capitalizing on the supposed gap in the market that e-commerce offers? And what more is required in Africa to make entrepreneurship available to more young people on the continent?

Rabbi Ephraim Buchwald, Director of NJOP, shares a secret: He is addicted to chocolate. While he admits that chocolate is not the healthiest thing, it does have some benefits. Chocolate also has a strong Jewish history. When the Jews were expelled from Spain during the Inquisition, they traveled to South and Central America and got along with the people of these countries. And it was these locals who showed Jews how to make chocolate. If they were again persecuted, they had an important skill that they could take with them wherever they went. Some of these Jews went on to become famous chocolatiers. Rabbi Buchwald offers a tribute to chocolate and a reminder for all of us to celebrate Jews and chocolate.

A Chocolate Treat
How does a Jewish Treat become a chocolate treat? When the topic of the day is about the Jewish connection to the early trade of chocolate, we find the perfect reason to feature a Treat in honor of World Chocolate Day (July 7).
Having been expelled from the Iberian Peninsula in the 1490s, professing Jews were not part of the Spanish conquest of Central and South America. However, many conversos (hidden Jews) traveled to the new colonies in the hope that they would eventually be able to live openly as Jews. Once there, the conversos became deeply involved in cross-Atlantic commerce, including the cocoa trade. By the 1600s, cocoa was a much sought-after commodity, and Benjamin de Acosta d’Andrade, took chocolate to the next level. A native of Portugal who had emigrated to Brazil and reclaimed his Judaism, de Acosta established a cocoa plantation on the French Island of Martinique. He is credited with modernizing the cocoa process and creating chocolate.
As chocolate’s popularity grew, numerous other Jews became involved in its growing, processing and trading. Alas, this came to an abrupt end when, in 1685, King Louis XIV issued the Code Noir, which, among other things, ordered all Jews out of the French colonies.
Jews were also involved in the chocolate trade in Europe. The port city of Bayonne, located in the Bay of Bisque just over the border from Spain, has a renowned history of chocolate production. While no Jews were allowed to live in Bayonne, there was a thriving converso community in the neighboring borough of St. Espirit. It is believed that these conversos brought the secrets of great chocolate production with them from Spain and Portugal and were the original source responsible for the exalted reputation of Bayonne’s chocolate. It is interesting, but not surprising, to note that in 1681, the Bayonne chocolate guild passed an ordinance forbidding the retail of Jewish chocolate in the city.

Chamber of commerce
A chamber of commerce (or board of trade) is a form of business network, for example, a local organization of businesses whose goal is to further the interests of businesses. Business owners in towns and cities form these local societies to advocate on behalf of the business community. Local businesses are members, and they elect a board of directors or executive council to set policy for the chamber. The board or council then hires a President, CEO or Executive Director, plus staffing appropriate to size, to run the organization.
The first chamber of commerce was founded in 1599 in Marseille, France. Another official chamber of commerce would follow 65 years later, probably in Bruges, then part of the Spanish Netherlands.
The world's oldest English-speaking chamber of commerce, in New York City, dates from 1768. The oldest known existing chamber in the English-speaking world with continuous records, the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, was founded in 1783. However, Hull Chamber of Commerce is the UK's oldest, followed by those of Leeds and of Belfast in Northern Ireland.

Cocoa Beach, Florida
Cocoa Beach is a city in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 11,231 at the 2010 United States Census. It is part of the Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
The first non-native settlement in the area was by a family of freed slaves following the American Civil War. In 1888, a group of men from Cocoa bought the entire tract of land, which went undeveloped until it was bought out in 1923 by a member of the group—Gus Edwards, Cocoa's city attorney. At that time, Edwards' total holdings included approximately 600 acres (240 ha), and he had stopped practicing law to devote all his efforts to developing the area.
Prior to incorporation, the area was known as Oceanus. The Town of Cocoa Beach was established on June 5, 1925. Cocoa Beach's first official meeting was held at the Cocoa Beach Casino on July 27, 1925, and adopted the City Seal. Gus C. Edwards was elected as mayor and served as a commissioner along with J.A. Haisten, and R.Z. Grabel. A little less than a month later, plans for a pier became official.

Barry Callebaut
Barry Callebaut is among the world's largest cocoa producers and grinders, with an average annual production of 1.7 million tonnes of cocoa. It was created in 1996 through the merging of the Belgian chocolate producer Callebaut and the French company Cacao Barry. It is currently based in Zürich, Switzerland, and operates in 30 countries worldwide. It was created in its present form by the German immigrant Klaus Johann Jacobs.
Its customers include multinational and national branded consumer goods manufacturers and artisanal users of chocolate (chocolatiers, pastry chefs, bakeries, and caterers), including Hersheys.
In addition to manufacture, the company undertakes research into chocolate recipes: for example, in recent years it has launched tooth-friendly chocolate, probiotic chocolate, chocolate with a high level of antioxidants (sold under the brand name ACTICOA), and "rebalanced" chocolate, which has an improved nutritional profile. Youth unemployment remains a major political and socio-economic challenge in Africa,despite the recent strong growth performance of many African countries. But increasing research is showing that e-commerce could be an extremely viable route to dealing with this problem. It is now possible for a person in Kenya to buy goods from a company in Dubai, to be delivered to a person in Hawaii, and all of this is possible with much less capital than before. And as more African youth are challenged to take up opportunities E-Commerce has to offer , they are increasingly garnering attention and encouragement from experts in this field, most recently exhibited in the visit by Alibaba's Jack Ma to Kenya and Rwanda.
So with this in mind, are the young people of the continent capitalizing on the supposed gap in the market that e-commerce offers? And what more is required in Africa to make entrepreneurship available to more young people on the continent?

Youth unemployment remains a major political and socio-economic challenge in Africa,despite the recent strong growth performance of many African countries. But increasing research is showing that e-commerce could be an extremely viable route to dealing with this problem. It is now possible for a person in Kenya to buy goods from a company in Dubai, to be delivered to a person in Hawaii, and all of this is possible with much less capital than before. And as more African youth are challenged to take up opportunities E-Commerce has to offer , they are increasingly garnering attention and encouragement from experts in this field, most recently exhibited in the visit by Alibaba's Jack Ma to Kenya and Rwanda.
So with this in mind, are the young people of the continent capitalizing on the supposed gap in the market that e-commerce offers? And what more is required in Africa to make entrepreneurship available to more young people on the continent?

Rabbi Ephraim Buchwald, Director of NJOP, shares a secret: He is addicted to chocolate. While he admits that chocolate is not the healthiest thing, it does have some benefits. Chocolate also has a strong Jewish history. When the Jews were expelled from Spain during the Inquisition, they traveled to South and Central America and got along with the people of these countries. And it was these locals who showed Jews how to make chocolate. If they were again persecuted, they had an important skill that they could take with them wherever they went. Some of these Jews went on to become famous chocolatiers. Rabbi Buchwald offers a tribute to chocolate and a reminder for all of us to celebrate Jews and chocolate.

A Chocolate Treat
How does a Jewish Treat become a chocolate treat? When the topic of the day is about the Jewish connection to the early trade of chocolate, we find the perfect reason to feature a Treat in honor of World Chocolate Day (July 7).
Having been expelled from the Iberian Peninsula in the 1490s, professing Jews were not part of the Spanish conquest of Central and South America. However, many conversos (hidden Jews) traveled to the new colonies in the hope that they would eventually be able to live openly as Jews. Once there, the conversos became deeply involved in cross-Atlantic commerce, including the cocoa trade. By the 1600s, cocoa was a much sought-after commodity, and Benjamin de Acosta d’Andrade, took chocolate to the next level. A native of Portugal who had emigrated to Brazil and reclaimed his Judaism, de Acosta established a cocoa plantation on the French Island of Martinique. He is credited with modernizing the cocoa process and creating chocolate.
As chocolate’s popularity grew, numerous other Jews became involved in its growing, processing and trading. Alas, this came to an abrupt end when, in 1685, King Louis XIV issued the Code Noir, which, among other things, ordered all Jews out of the French colonies.
Jews were also involved in the chocolate trade in Europe. The port city of Bayonne, located in the Bay of Bisque just over the border from Spain, has a renowned history of chocolate production. While no Jews were allowed to live in Bayonne, there was a thriving converso community in the neighboring borough of St. Espirit. It is believed that these conversos brought the secrets of great chocolate production with them from Spain and Portugal and were the original source responsible for the exalted reputation of Bayonne’s chocolate. It is interesting, but not surprising, to note that in 1681, the Bayonne chocolate guild passed an ordinance forbidding the retail of Jewish chocolate in the city.

This Ultrasonic Sound Pulses at 68 to 80 times a second at 100dB. Safe for humans, dogs, and cats. DO NOT USE if you have pet mice, gerbils, ETC !!!
Simply crank up this video when you are home or leaving for the day. Point your speakers in all different directions, and in the lowest part of your house if you can. ( basement ) The frequency waves do not travel though walls or furniture. リラックス 睡眠
Other pest control natural remedies to get rid of mice, rats, and rodents:
1)Peppermint oil: put it on cotton balls and spread around
2)Instant potatoes: spread them out and let them eat it. They can't properly digest it and will die
3)Properly store your food so they can't get to it
4)Patch all access holes for them to enter your house
5)Place used kitty litter in affected areas, mice will run from the smell thinking there are cats around.
6)Natural predators... Keep a cat around
7)Put steel wool in holes, mice can't chew it
8)Humane box traps...relocate each catch
9) Leave out onions in affected areas... mice hate the smell and will leave... be-careful though, as onions are poisonous to cats and dogs if they eat them...be safe and put them where they can't get to them
10)Mix plaster of paris with cocoa butter...leave for them to eat

On this episode of Business PNG we take a look at the East Sepik Province, where the Prime Minister, several ministers and heads of institutions arrived to launch the ‘Sepik Chicken Grain and Cocoa Innovation Project,’ championed by Minister for Trade Commerce & Industry, Richard Maru, in his respective district – Yangoru Saussia.
With a footprint of six thousand hectares – a joint venture between Kumul Consolidated Holdings and Innovative Agro Industry Ltd an affiliate of the Israel LR Group.
The Sepik Chicken Grain and Cocoa Innovation Project is a K100 million investment; majority owned by Kumul holdings, and to be managed by innovative agriculture holdings.
The project is intended to produce eggs and poultry for the local market and stock feed from local grown materials, and will include a 5,000 hectare cocoa plantation.
The project is located in the Urimo planes in the Yangoru Sassia district, the department of Trade Commerce & Industry has been investing significantly in the area to build infrastructure to enable large scale agricultural investments to be made in the area by investing in electricity, a water treatment plant and roads.
The Prime Minister was taken on a tour to inspect the latest developments in the district.
Business PNG also caught up with Ilan Weiss – Chairman and Director for Innovative Agro Industry Ltd, who spoke about the technicality and macroeconomics aspect of the project.
Also on this episode of Business PNG is an Entrepreneur Engage segment with Ms Patrycja Savinio Failou, founder and owner of ‘Family Tree’ a local funeral shop in Wewak Town.
She speaks to Business PNG about the demand of funeral services in the country, how thousands of kina is spent on flying the deceased to Port Moresby and Lae for these services.
She shares her vision to expand the small shop to a fully-fledged funeral home that will cater to Madang, East and West Sepik (Sandaun).

Joe's brother Tim operated the very popular, Alma's Italian Restaurant. Joe's mom, "Mother Morgan" was active socially and politically in Brevard County for many years. Joe and John discuss what it takes to be successful in business. Joe was with Rockwell International before retiring from Wachovia Bank where he was Marketing Vice President. Joe and John discuss what it takes to be successful in business. Joe was with Rockwell International before retiring from Wachovia Bank where he was Marketing Vice President. He served Wachovia for 20 years. Joe was chamber president in 1965 and 1985 and Cocoa Beach mayor in 1993 and 1996.

You are watching an interview of Roy Harris Wall, who was born in 1889 in Ellaville, Georgia and moved to Eau Gallie, Florida in 1916. Roy Wall spent 50 years on the Rockledge Volunteer Fire Department, served on Rockledge City Council for 16 years, and was also a member of the Cocoa Chamber of Commerce. Roy discusses numerous topics including: the Great Depression, witnessing the history of aviation, property values in Brevard, racial relations, and his working and personal life (including being a distinguished member of the local Masonic Lodge).
In this interview, Roy remarks about working at the Cocoa Bank and Trust Company when it was forced to close in 1928 as result of the economic depression. Roy discusses these challenging “hard times” throughout the interview, mentioning his efforts to find work, his wife’s return to the workforce, and simply struggling to get by. Roy’s fortune changed when he began working at the S.F. Travis Hardware Company. Roy expresses his great admiration for its owner, Mr. Travis, who is described as a generous and honest business owner. Roy worked for Travis Hardware as a bookkeeper for 32 ½ years, until he was 80 years old. There is also a short discussion of the history of the S.F. Travis Company, which began as a hardware boat selling its wares up and down the river. The company is now over 130 years old and is still family owned and operated in Cocoa, Florida.
While the years he spent between working at the bank and Travis Hardware were difficult, Roy also lived to witness the opposite economic conditions in the form of rising property values in Brevard County. He discusses how property, especially along the beach, increased in value tremendously. The relationship between blacks and whites is also briefly discussed, including a reading of one of his wife’s poems from the 1920’s on the subject of racial equality. Finally, there is also discussion of Roy witnessing the progress of aviation. He mentions watching the Wright Brothers’ Kitty Hawk fly at the State Fair in Georgia, witnessing space rockets take off in Brevard County, and even flying in an airplane piloted by astronaut Wally Schirra, a fellow Mason.
Roy Wall passed away on January 4, 1996 at the age of 106. This interview from 1992 was conducted when Roy was 103 years old. Today, Roy Wall Boulevard in Rockledge is named for him.

The Commerce Department also reported that retail sales jumped 5.8% in November. Given those parameters, there's no reason to think that Amazon wouldn't have benefited from the surge in holiday spending, especially as e-commerce spending as a percentage of retail sales peaks in the fourth quarter and as consumers trust Amazon with last-minute deliveries. E-commerce is still rising....
