The U.S. Navy’s USS Fitzgerald will return home for repairs following its fatal collision last month with a Filipino freighter south of Tokyo Bay, a naval official said Friday.
Seven crew members died in the collision on June 17. Whether the crew of the vessel will also return home remains undecided, the official said, adding that the United States will continue to cooperate with Japanese authorities to shed light on the incident.

In a blatant provocation to the United States, Russian bombers on Monday flew so close to the coast of Alaska that the United States Air Force scrambled two F-22 stealth fighter jets to counter the threat, Fox News reported.
Worst of all, the bombers that delivered the gross provocation were nuclear-capable, according to the report.
The two Russian Tu-95 bombers flew “roughly 280 miles southwest of Elmendorf Air Force Base, within the Air Defense Identification Zone of the United States,” according to Fox.
This is the first time that this has happened during the administration of President Donald Trump.
In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Rep. Adam Kinzinger said the Russians sent the bombers as a reminder to the United States they’re out there — in other words, a provocation to test the response of our forces.
“This was a show of force by the Russians to show us that they are still here,” the Illinois Republican said. He said that the incident was “an attempt to come up as close as they could to our international borders to see what our reaction would be.”
And of course, we were ready.
Two F-22s and an E-3 airborne early warning plane were dispatched to deal with the Russian planes, and the bombers did eventually head back in the direction of Russia.
With the two countries on edge over Syria, tensions between the United States and Russia are high, and relations are low.
However, at a time when the United States is facing off with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Russia should be not launching probes like this. This is not the time to shove a metaphorical alarm clock in the face of the sleeping giant.

The nuclear standoff with North Korea seems like it’s reaching a boiling point. President Trump has drawn a red line that the North will not acquire a missile capable of striking the U.S. mainland. But the North is not listening. They’ve been increasing their missile tests as they try to develop a rocket that can hit an American city.
Let’s take a look at the options the U.S. has for dealing with North Korea.
North Korea is the only country that has tested a nuclear weapon in the 21st century. In fact, it’s done it five times.
After Kim Jong Un became Supreme Leader in 2011, the North began ramping up the frequency of its missile tests.
In response to the growing threat, President Obama ordered the US military to use cyber and electronic strikes to sabotage the North’s test launches, just like it had done to Iran’s rogue nuclear facilities a few years before.
The move worked, according to a recent investigative report by the New York Times:
“Soon a large number of the North’s military rockets began to explode, veer off course, disintegrate in midair and plunge into the sea.”
One medium range missile failed on 88 percent of its test launches, far higher than the 13 percent failure rate of the Soviet-era weapon on which it was based.
These security breaches enraged Kim, who ordered the execution of five senior officials by a firing squad of anti-aircraft guns.
But despite the setbacks, the North says it’s almost ready to test its first missile capable of reaching the United States.
Even if this is just big talk, one thing is clear: our military does not currently have the ability to stop the North’s nuclear weapons program.
After it successfully launched a satellite in 2016, it now may be able to strike targets up to 4,000 miles away. That not only puts South Korea and Japan well in range, but also India, parts of Northern Australia, US bases in the Pacific, and even Anchorage.
But to hit the American mainland they’ll need to bust out the big boys. US intelligence estimates the North has six KN-08’s and is developing an upgraded version called the KN-14. Neither has been tested yet, but both could theoretically hit us here in the states.
To defend against this type of intercontinental ballistic missile threat, we have a multi-layered, partially land-based missile defense system protecting the US mainland and our allies, but those systems have never been tested in live combat, have had high failure rates when tested so far, and would likely fail against a barrage of more than a handful of missiles.
President Obama was so concerned by the situation, he warned President Trump that this was the most urgent problem confronting the United States.
So what exactly are Trump’s options?
Option #1 has just been taken: deploy the THAAD missile defense system to South Korea. The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense gives the pacific alliance another layer of protection against ballistic missiles alongside their existing patriot systems and Aegis equipped naval destroyers. By placing THAAD so close to the North, the US, Korea, and Japan have instantly enhanced their ability to track and respond to missile launches.
But China is protesting the move, saying “it’s common knowledge that the monitoring and early warning radius of THAAD reaches far beyond the Korean Peninsula and compromises China’s strategic security.”
They argue THAAD’s deployment could set off an arms race in the region. But this seems hypocritical considering how much China — as the North’s lone ally and largest trading partner — has already enabled its erratic behavior. Not to mention China’s rapid militarization of the South China sea.
Option # 2 is for Trump to double down on Obama’s effort to sabotage North Korea’s missile tests. But this strategy could have unintended consequences if it emboldens Russia and China to try and disrupt US launch systems.

Dangerously Close
Dangerously Close was a 1986 action thriller film directed by Albert Pyun. The film was noted at its time of release for being part of a wave of teen vigilante films in the 80s exploring the United States right wing jingoism that was gaining popularity.
Plot
At an elite school, a group of students who call themselves The Sentinels begin terrorizing their socially undesirable classmates. Soon, one of their targets ends up brutally murdered. An editor of the high school paper begins to investigate and The Sentinels become even more ruthless in their behavior.
Soundtrack
The film features music from Robert Palmer, Fine Young Cannibals, Van Halen and The Smithereens, who sang the film's theme song, "Blood and Roses."
Release
Dangerously Close received a wide release in North America on May 9, 1986 grossing $1,180,506 its first week, falling to $474,260 in its second week.

North is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. North is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of south and is perpendicular to east and west.
Etymology
The word north is related to the Old High German nord, both descending from the Proto-Indo-European unit ner-, meaning "down" (or "under"). (Presumably a natural primitive description of its concept is "to the left of the rising sun".)
The Latin word borealis comes from the Greek boreas "north wind, north", which, according to Ovid, was personified as the son of the river-god Strymon, the father of Calais and Zetes. Worst of all, the bombers that delivered the gross provocation were nuclear-capable, according to the report. The two Russian Tu-95 bombers flew “roughly 280 miles southwest of Elmendorf Air Force Base, within the Air Defense Identification Zone of the United States,” according to Fox. This is the first time that this has happened during the administration of President Donald Trump. In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Rep. Adam Kinzinger said the Russians sent the bombers as a reminder to the United States they’re out there — in other words, a provocation to test the response of our forces. “This was a show of force by the Russians to show us that they are still here,” the Illinois Republican said. He said that the incident was “an attempt to come up as close as they could to our international borders to see what our reaction would be.” And of course, we were ready. Two F-22s and an E-3 airborne early warning plane were dispatched to deal with the Russian planes, and the bombers did eventually head back in the direction of Russia. With the two countries on edge over Syria, tensions between the United States and Russia are high, and relations are low. However, at a time when the United States is facing off with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Russia should be not launching probes like this. President Trump has drawn a red line that the North will not acquire a missile capable of striking the U.S. mainland. But the North is not listening. They’ve been increasing their missile tests as they try to develop a rocket that can hit an American city. Let’s take a look at the options the U.S. has for dealing with North Korea. North Korea is the only country that has tested a nuclear weapon in the 21st century. In fact, it’s done it five times. After Kim Jong Un became Supreme Leader in 2011, the North began ramping up the frequency of its missile tests. In response to the growing threat, President Obama ordered the US military to use cyber and electronic strikes to sabotage the North’s test launches, just like it had done to Iran’s rogue nuclear facilities a few years before. The move worked, according to a recent investigative report by the New York Times: “Soon a large number of the North’s military rockets began to explode, veer off course, disintegrate in midair and plunge into the sea.” One medium range missile failed on 88 percent of its test launches, far higher than the 13 percent failure rate of the Soviet-era weapon on which it was based. These security breaches enraged Kim, who ordered the execution of five senior officials by a firing squad of anti-aircraft guns. But despite the setbacks, the North says it’s almost ready to test its first missile capable of reaching the United States. Even if this is just big talk, one thing is clear: our military does not currently have the ability to stop the North’s nuclear weapons program. After it successfully launched a satellite in 2016, it now may be able to strike targets up to 4,000 miles away. That not only puts South Korea and Japan well in range, but also India, parts of Northern Australia, US bases in the Pacific, and even Anchorage. But to hit the American mainland they’ll need to bust out the big boys. US intelligence estimates the North has six KN-08’s and is developing an upgraded version called the KN-14. Neither has been tested yet, but both could theoretically hit us here in the states. To defend against this type of intercontinental ballistic missile threat, we have a multi-layered, partially land-based missile defense system protecting the US mainland and our allies, but those systems have never been tested in live combat, have had high failure rates when tested so far, and would likely fail against a barrage of more than a handful of missiles. President Obama was so concerned by the situation, he warned President Trump that this was the most urgent problem confronting the United States. So what exactly are Trump’s options? Option #1 has just been taken: deploy the THAAD missile defense system to South Korea. The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense gives the pacific alliance another layer of protection against ballistic missiles alongside their existing patriot systems and Aegis equipped naval destroyers. By placing THAAD so close to the North, the US, Korea, and Japan have instantly enhanced their ability to track and respond to missile launches. But China is protesting the move, saying “it’s common knowledge that the monitoring and early warning radius of THAAD reaches far beyond the Korean Peninsula and compromises China’s strategic security.” They argue THAAD’s deployment could set off an arms race in the region. But this seems hypocritical considering how much China — as the North’s lone ally and largest trading partner — has already enabled its erratic behavior. Not to mention China’s rapid militarization of the South China sea. Option # 2 is for Trump to double down on Obama’s effort to sabotage North Korea’s missile tests. But this strategy could have unintended consequences if it emboldens Russia and China to try and disrupt US launch systems.

In a blatant provocation to the United States, Russian bombers on Monday flew so close to the coast of Alaska that the United States Air Force scrambled two F-22 stealth fighter jets to counter the threat, Fox News reported.
Worst of all, the bombers that delivered the gross provocation were nuclear-capable, according to the report.
The two Russian Tu-95 bombers flew “roughly 280 miles southwest of Elmendorf Air Force Base, within the Air Defense Identification Zone of the United States,” according to Fox.
This is the first time that this has happened during the administration of President Donald Trump.
In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Rep. Adam Kinzinger said the Russians sent the bombers as a reminder to the United States they’re out there — in other words, a provocation to test the response of our forces.
“This was a show of force by the Russians to show us that they are still here,” the Illinois Republican said. He said that the incident was “an attempt to come up as close as they could to our international borders to see what our reaction would be.”
And of course, we were ready.
Two F-22s and an E-3 airborne early warning plane were dispatched to deal with the Russian planes, and the bombers did eventually head back in the direction of Russia.
With the two countries on edge over Syria, tensions between the United States and Russia are high, and relations are low.
However, at a time when the United States is facing off with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Russia should be not launching probes like this. This is not the time to shove a metaphorical alarm clock in the face of the sleeping giant.

The nuclear standoff with North Korea seems like it’s reaching a boiling point. President Trump has drawn a red line that the North will not acquire a missile capable of striking the U.S. mainland. But the North is not listening. They’ve been increasing their missile tests as they try to develop a rocket that can hit an American city.
Let’s take a look at the options the U.S. has for dealing with North Korea.
North Korea is the only country that has tested a nuclear weapon in the 21st century. In fact, it’s done it five times.
After Kim Jong Un became Supreme Leader in 2011, the North began ramping up the frequency of its missile tests.
In response to the growing threat, President Obama ordered the US military to use cyber and electronic strikes to sabotage the North’s test launches, just like it had done to Iran’s rogue nuclear facilities a few years before.
The move worked, according to a recent investigative report by the New York Times:
“Soon a large number of the North’s military rockets began to explode, veer off course, disintegrate in midair and plunge into the sea.”
One medium range missile failed on 88 percent of its test launches, far higher than the 13 percent failure rate of the Soviet-era weapon on which it was based.
These security breaches enraged Kim, who ordered the execution of five senior officials by a firing squad of anti-aircraft guns.
But despite the setbacks, the North says it’s almost ready to test its first missile capable of reaching the United States.
Even if this is just big talk, one thing is clear: our military does not currently have the ability to stop the North’s nuclear weapons program.
After it successfully launched a satellite in 2016, it now may be able to strike targets up to 4,000 miles away. That not only puts South Korea and Japan well in range, but also India, parts of Northern Australia, US bases in the Pacific, and even Anchorage.
But to hit the American mainland they’ll need to bust out the big boys. US intelligence estimates the North has six KN-08’s and is developing an upgraded version called the KN-14. Neither has been tested yet, but both could theoretically hit us here in the states.
To defend against this type of intercontinental ballistic missile threat, we have a multi-layered, partially land-based missile defense system protecting the US mainland and our allies, but those systems have never been tested in live combat, have had high failure rates when tested so far, and would likely fail against a barrage of more than a handful of missiles.
President Obama was so concerned by the situation, he warned President Trump that this was the most urgent problem confronting the United States.
So what exactly are Trump’s options?
Option #1 has just been taken: deploy the THAAD missile defense system to South Korea. The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense gives the pacific alliance another layer of protection against ballistic missiles alongside their existing patriot systems and Aegis equipped naval destroyers. By placing THAAD so close to the North, the US, Korea, and Japan have instantly enhanced their ability to track and respond to missile launches.
But China is protesting the move, saying “it’s common knowledge that the monitoring and early warning radius of THAAD reaches far beyond the Korean Peninsula and compromises China’s strategic security.”
They argue THAAD’s deployment could set off an arms race in the region. But this seems hypocritical considering how much China — as the North’s lone ally and largest trading partner — has already enabled its erratic behavior. Not to mention China’s rapid militarization of the South China sea.
Option # 2 is for Trump to double down on Obama’s effort to sabotage North Korea’s missile tests. But this strategy could have unintended consequences if it emboldens Russia and China to try and disrupt US launch systems.

A Month Around China
This video is made up from almost 3000 photos taken over four weeks of travelling around China and Hong Kong. We spent five days in Beijing, prior to our trip in North Korea, seeing celebrations for Golden Week - China National Day in Tiananmen Square and the Summer Palace. We joined the Dragon Trip, after returning from North Korea, for an 18 day tour around China beginning in Yangshuo. Yangshuo (in Guilin) is famous for its Karst mountain range spread across its farmland. Here we saw a rural side of China; seeing the scenic view from 20 Yuan note, visiting a Dragon Trip's tour guide's family farm, have a cooking class, cycle through the mountains and farmland, float down the Yulong River on a bamboo raft and see the traditional Cormorant bird Fishing. The War Of Eyes - How Tourism Helps The Two Koreas To Stare Down Each Other
This clip documents a day trip to the Joint Security Area at the border that divides the Korean Peninsula. A tourist bus starts from Seoul and stops at an observatory near the Freedom Bridge where tourists can peer into the North. A tour guide provides the South Korean perspective on North Korea explaining i.e. the lack of trees in the North and the small size of North Korean Soldiers. The travel terminates in Panmunjeom within the JSA where guards and tourists stare at each other from both sides. But at a time when the secretive state was still welcoming tourists, former aid worker Andrew Macleod made the journey to the repressive nation. Andrew’s holiday snaps and camera footage provide a unique insight into the reclusive country, where he came across deserted motorways, metro stations plastered with propaganda and attractive border guards.

I've always been very interested in North Korea because it seemed to be one of the most unique and mysterious countries in the whole world. This is my day to da...
I've always been very interested in North Korea because it seemed to be one of the most unique and mysterious countries in the whole world. This is my day to day life throughout the 7 days that I spent in North Korea. You can never be sure whether things were staged or not in North Korea because you are only shown what they want you to see. You can't choose where or when you will be going to specific places, they simply tell you to hop on a bus and ask you to get off at one point or another.
That is why I didn't want to offer my opinion about whether things were staged or not, whether they were good or not, or honest or not. My goal was to show you what my day to day life looked like when I was there and let you make up your own mind and judge for yourself.
Do not judge North Korea only from what you see in this video. This is what they showed us and there's a reason they show some things and not show the others. Also, knowing how much control they exercise over the population, everything could have been staged only for us.

Though there is little evidence of safety issues concerning tourists on organized expeditions, those planning to engage in activities that the North Korean government forbids must be prepared to face severe consequences.
Under no circumstances are you to say anything that could be perceived as an insult to or critical of Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-Il, Kim Jong-Un, the Juche ideology, the Songun policy, the ruling Worker's Party of Korea, the North Korean government in general, or the citizens of North Korea. Simply avoid these topics if you can.

The ground started to shake and ripple under your feet as the tanks started to roll by,the street filled with thick clouds of diesel fumes.Alongside the thunderous noise you could still here the cheering. large groups of school children were trying to out sing or out screen each other, parents, grandparents waving plastic flowers some resembling mechanical toys,they lined the streets for as far as you could see.The tanks were followed by missile launchers,rockets, artillary canons and finally a never ending convoy of open top trucks filled with cheering soldiers.the whole parade had been delayed for hours due to a few clouds in the sky so by the time it had passed by it was completly dark.Finally as the convoy started to thin out the heavens opened up.the wind picked up and it poured down.For a while everyone remained in place and kept cheering what was left of the Korean Peoples Army and then like a giant herd of startled wilderbeast everyone was on the move.I took refuge in the middle of a brass band who had held their ground.The police were still frantically blowing their whistles trying to keep some order,in this chaos the brass band were still playing.I looked around it looked like a scene from Titanic.
At some point I felt a hand on my shoulder,It was a very relieved Mr Pak my Korean guide,he told me the whole group had been waiting on the bus for over an hour to leave.Too bad I thought knowing to well that going to A mass parade is the only opportunity your ever get as a tourist to wander around freely on your own in the highly controlled state of The Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea
When travelling around North Korea the two english words you will probrually hear more than any other will be No Photo.The general rules layed down by the korean guides are not to take photos of people in military uniform,construction sights or images of what they percieve to be of poverty.This makes filming In the country pretty challenging,images of what many westerners including myself see as being oldschool,rectro rustic and unspoilt completly confuse the koreans who would much rather you took images of the statues of their dear leaders,monuments and newly constructed appartment blocks.
Ive always just used a DSLR to shoot video in NK,it seems to draw less attention.
Beyond all the propaganda, and facades you encounter in North korea.The natural wonders that the country holds are undeniably beautifull and as for the people,everything they do is done with so much dedication,dertimination, and a togetherness that ive never encounterd before.

This video is made up from almost 3000 photos taken over four weeks of travelling around China and Hong Kong.
We spent five days in Beijing, prior to our trip in North Korea, seeing celebrations for Golden Week - China National Day in Tiananmen Square and the Summer Palace.
We joined the Dragon Trip, after returning from North Korea, for an 18 day tour around China beginning in Yangshuo. Yangshuo (in Guilin) is famous for its Karst mountain range spread across its farmland. Here we saw a rural side of China; seeing the scenic view from 20 Yuan note, visiting a Dragon Trip's tour guide's family farm, have a cooking class, cycle through the mountains and farmland, float down the Yulong River on a bamboo raft and see the traditional Cormorant bird Fishing.
After Yangshuo we travelled to Chengdu; the heart of the West of China. We visited the largest building in the world the Global Center and saw pandas at the worlds biggest, Giant Panda Breeding & Research Center.
We then explored Xi'An seeing the Terracotta Warriors and cycling around the Ming Dynasty City Walls. After Xi'An we visited Dengfeng home of the Shaolin Monks and had a Kungfu lesson at a Children’s Home run by the Shaolin Temple.
Next we returned to Beijing seeing the Olympic Bird’s Nest stadium, hiked an unrestored section of the Great Wall and visited the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven.
From Beijing we travelled to Moganshan to hike to Moganshan Peak, see Chairman Mao’s previous summer residence and swim in a lagoon.
At the end of the Dragon Trip, we spent a week in Shanghai over Halloween. From Shanghai we flew to Hong Kong and while there took a ferry over to Macau.

After Yangshuo we travelled to Chengdu; the heart of the West of China. We visited the largest building in the world the Global Center and saw pandas at the worlds biggest, Giant Panda Breeding & Research Center.
We then explored Xi'An seeing the Terracotta Warriors and cycling around the Ming Dynasty City Walls. After Xi'An we visited Dengfeng home of the Shaolin Monks and had a Kungfu lesson at a Children’s Home run by the Shaolin Temple.
Next we returned to Beijing seeing the Olympic Bird’s Nest stadium, hiked an unrestored section of the Great Wall and visited the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven.
From Beijing we travelled to Moganshan to hike to Moganshan Peak, see Chairman Mao’s previous summer residence and swim in a lagoon.
At the end of the Dragon Trip, we spent a week in Shanghai over Halloween. From Shanghai we flew to Hong Kong and while there took a ferry over to Macau.

This clip documents a day trip to the Joint Security Area at the border that divides the Korean Peninsula. A tourist bus starts from Seoul and stops at an observatory near the Freedom Bridge where tourists can peer into the North. A tour guide provides the South Korean perspective on North Korea explaining i.e. the lack of trees in the North and the small size of North Korean Soldiers. The travel terminates in Panmunjeom within the JSA where guards and tourists stare at each other from both sides. The regulations allow tourists to carry nothing else than their cameras, the suitable equipment to be utilized in this "War Of Eyes" where filming and photographing is explicitely allowed.
The final highlight of the trip is a visit to the souvenir shop in the Demilitarized Zone where one can buy i.e. miniature dolls of soldiers, ginseng and uniforms.
