Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. This is usually only for a limited time. The exclusive rights are not absolute but limited by limitations and exceptions to copyright law, including fair use.
Copyright is a form of intellectual property, applicable to certain forms of creative work. Under US copyright law, legal protection attaches only to fixed representations in a tangible medium. It is often shared among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referred to as rightsholders. These rights frequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and "moral rights" such as attribution.
Copyrights are considered territorial rights, which means that they do not extend beyond the territory of a specific jurisdiction. While many aspects of national copyright laws have been standardized through international copyright agreements, copyright laws vary by country.
Crash Course (also known as Driving Academy) is a 1988 made for television teen film directed by Oz Scott.
Crash Course centers on a group of high schoolers in a driver’s education class; many for the second or third time. The recently divorced teacher, super-passive Larry Pearl, is on thin ice with the football fanatic principal, Principal Paulson, who is being pressured by the district superintendent to raise driver’s education completion rates or lose his coveted football program. With this in mind, Principal Paulson and his assistant, with a secret desire for his job, Abner Frasier, hire an outside driver’s education instructor with a very tough reputation, Edna Savage, aka E.W. Savage, who quickly takes control of the class.
The plot focuses mostly on the students and their interactions with their teachers and each other. In the beginning, Rico is the loner with just a few friends, Chadley is the bookish nerd with few friends who longs to be cool and also longs to be a part of Vanessa’s life who is the young, friendly and attractive girl who had to fake her mother’s signature on her driver’s education permission slip. Kichi is the hip-hop Asian kid who often raps what he has to say and constantly flirts with Maria, the rich foreign girl who thinks that the right-of-way on the roadways always goes to (insert awesomely fake foreign Latino accent) “my father’s limo”. Finally you have stereotypical football meathead J.J., who needs to pass his English exam to keep his eligibility and constantly asks out and gets rejected by Alice, the tomboy whose father owns “Santini & Son” Concrete Company. Alice is portrayed as being the “son” her father wanted.
Intellectual property (IP) is a term referring to creations of the intellect for which a monopoly is assigned to designated owners by law. Some common types of intellectual property rights (IPR) are trademarks, copyright, patents, industrial design rights, and in some jurisdictions trade secrets: all these cover music, literature, and other artistic works; discoveries and inventions; and words, phrases, symbols, and designs.
While intellectual property law has evolved over centuries, it was not until the 19th century that the term intellectual property began to be used, and not until the late 20th century that it became commonplace in the majority of the world.
The Statute of Monopolies (1624) and the British Statute of Anne (1710) are seen as the origins of patent law and copyright respectively, firmly establishing the concept of intellectual property.
The first known use of the term intellectual property dates to 1769, when a piece published in the Monthly Review used the phrase. The first clear example of modern usage goes back as early as 1808, when it was used as a heading title in a collection of essays.

Mickey Mouse is a funny animal cartoon character and the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company. He was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at the Walt Disney Studios in 1928. An anthropomorphic mouse who typically wears red shorts, large yellow shoes, and white gloves, Mickey has become the most recognizable cartoon character in the world.
Mickey first was seen in a single test screening (Plane Crazy). Mickey officially debuted in the short film Steamboat Willie (1928), one of the first sound cartoons. He went on to appear in over 130 films, including The Band Concert (1935), Brave Little Tailor (1938), and Fantasia (1940). Mickey appeared primarily in short films, but also occasionally in feature-length films. Ten of Mickey's cartoons were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, one of which, Lend a Paw, won the award in 1942. In 1978, Mickey became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Beginning in 1930, Mickey has also been featured extensively as a comic strip character. His self-titled newspaper strip, drawn primarily by Floyd Gottfredson, ran for 45 years. Mickey has also appeared in comic books and in television series such as The Mickey Mouse Club (1955–1996) and others. He also appears in other media such as video games as well as merchandising, and is a meetable character at the Disney parks.
EPISODE DESCRIPTION This week, Stan Muller teaches you the basics of copyright in the United States. Copyright law is territorial, so we're going to cover the system we know the most about, and that's the US. Stan will talk about what kind of ideas can be copyrighted, who can get a copyright, and what protections the copyright grants. We'll also talk about the always contentious and seemingly ever-growing term of copyright. Stan will also teach you about the low bar for creativity, which means that original work doesn't have to be all that original, and he'll also touch on the problems with copyright in the modern world. The Magic 8 Ball is a registered trademark of the Mattel corporation. Citation 1: Title 17 United States Code, section 101 Citation 2: 17 USC 101 Citation 3: 17 USC 101...

Hey Laowinners! The double standard of China's copyright laws are laughable. Yes, the laws are here, and on paper, but the practice of them is a bit terrifying for a content producer. I recently made a reaction video to a controversial rap song from a Chinese musician which was perfectly protected under the rights of YouTube's fair use clause. However, Fat Shady, proceeded to hit me with a copyright strike and got my account thrown into the depths of bad standing. Stan Muller teaches you a few things about copyright enforcement, and talks about the exceptions to copyright enforcement. While there are several, the one you've probably heard of is Fair Use, and it's a pretty tricky one. We'll try to explain it, and teach you just why fair use is so loosey goosey. From the Interactive Media & Games Seminar Series; Todd Smithline, Principal of Smithline PC addresses how the rules and mechanics of a game have historically not been protected by copyright. A recent spate of cases involving clones of mobile video games, however, is challenging that understanding with consequences already being felt well beyond the phone. Todd explores these new cases and considers how they may limit creative choices for all kinds of game developers.
This is an educational slide show on the topic of Copyright Law, Fair Use Law and Public Domain. It is intended to give middle school students a brief overview of what Copyright is and how it effects them as students.
Mickey Mouse – the icon of the Walt Disney Company and one of the most recognizable characters in the world – has become the standard by which how long copyrights can last. Mickey was supposed to enter the public domain in 1984. That never happened, and Disney continues to work extremely hard to make sure it never will. In 2011, the government initiated an independent review of intellectual property, carried out by Professor Ian Hargreaves: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20140603093549/http://www.ipo.gov.uk/types/hargreaves.htm The Hargreaves Review of Intellectual Property and Growth was published in May 2011, making 10 recommendations to "ensure that the UK has an IP framework best suited to supporting innovation and promoting economic growth in the digital age". These videos – produced during the public consultation period following the publication of the Review – explore those proposals and the arguments on both sides of the debate. In June and October 2014, the UK government imp...
"If I take your car, you no longer have your car. If I sing a song that you wrote, you still have your song," says Mercatus Center senior research fellow Jerry Brito in explaining the difference between real property and intellectual property. The latter, he stresses, is statutory property, created by the Constitution and designed to secure for creators a limited period of exclusive control of their works. "That's exactly why we have copyright: So you can turn a profit." But that incentive to create is supposed to be balanced again society's gain from having works go into the public domain, where anyone can use them. The original copyright term in the U.S. lasted for 14 years and could be renewed once. Under current law, the term is the life of the creator plus 70 years. At the same time,...
It has become clear that most people do not have a clue as to what Copyright laws actually are and that most Copyrights are not valid because of non-compliance to the regulations and laws themselves. One area that most are confused and mis-informed about is what is an "Originator" as defined by the statues, another one is that you cannot make a claim of Copyright Infringement on Untied States government material and just because you put a Copyright symbol on a picture does not mean you own it or that you can make claim to such, such as SECCHI or NASA.gov, in fact you are breaking the law by doing such. You must also file for a Copyright with the United States Copyright Office for a Copyright claim, it cost money and takes up to a 1 1/2 years. To accuse another person falsely is a crime ...
This week, Stan Muller launches the Crash Course Intellectual Property mini-series. So, what is intellectual property, and why are we teaching it? Well, intellectual property is about ideas and their ownership, and it's basically about the rights of creators to make money from their work. A new California law allows for individuals to be jailed up to a year if they repeatedly use a name or pronoun inconsistent with a person’s chosen gender identity. The law, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown yesterday, is being called the latest salvo in a war against opposing thought, critics say. The law is part of a “LGBT Senior Bill of Rights,” and applies only to transgender seniors and individuals in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. It demands the use of gender pronouns consistent with a person’s proclaimed gender identity. The Daily Caller has more. California can now start jailing people that refuse to use the preferred gender pronouns of nursing home residents after Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill Thursday. The law’s effect is limited to nursing homes and other ...
