Discworld is a comic fantasy book series written by the English author Terry Pratchett (1948–2015), set on the fictional Discworld, a flat disc balanced on the backs of four elephants which in turn stand on the back of a giant turtle, Great A'Tuin. The books frequently parody or take inspiration from J. R. R. Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, H. P. Lovecraft, Charles Dickens, and William Shakespeare, as well as mythology, folklore and fairy tales, often using them for satirical parallels with current cultural, political and scientific issues. The series is popular, with more than 80 million books sold in 37 languages.
Forty one Discworld novels have been published. Pratchett, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, said that he would be happy for his daughter Rhianna to continue the series when he is no longer able to do so. However, Rhianna has stated she will only be involved in spin-offs, adaptations and tie-ins, and that there will be no more novels. The original British editions of the first 26 novels, up to Thief of Time (2001), had distinctive cover art by Josh Kirby. The American editions, published by Harper Collins, used their own cover art. Since Kirby's death in October 2001, the covers have been designed by Paul Kidby. Companion publications include eleven short stories (some only loosely related to the Discworld), four popular science books, and a number of supplementary books and reference guides. In addition, the series has been adapted for graphic novels, for the theatre, as computer and board games, as music inspired by the series, and repeatedly for television.
Sir Terence David John "Terry" Pratchett, OBE (28 April 1948 – 12 March 2015) was an English author of fantasy novels, especially comical works. He is best known for his Discworld series of 41 novels. Pratchett's first novel, The Carpet People, was published in 1971; after the first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983, he wrote two books a year on average. His 2011 Discworld novel Snuff was at the time of its release the third-fastest-selling hardback adult-readership novel since records began in the UK, selling 55,000 copies in the first three days. His final Discworld novel, The Shepherd's Crown, was published in August 2015, five months after his death.
Pratchett, with more than 85 million books sold worldwide in 37 languages, was the UK's best-selling author of the 1990s. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998 and was knighted for services to literature in the 2009 New Year Honours. In 2001 he won the annual Carnegie Medal for The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents, the first Discworld book marketed for children. He received the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 2010.
Guards! Guards! is the eighth Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett, first published in 1989. It is the first novel about the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. The first Discworld computer game borrowed heavily from Guards! Guards! in terms of plot.
The story follows a plot by a secret brotherhood, the Unique and Supreme Lodge of the Elucidated Brethren of the Ebon Night, to overthrow the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork and install a puppet king, under the control of the Supreme Grand Master. Using a stolen magic book, they summon a dragon to strike fear into the people of Ankh-Morpork.
Once a suitable state of terror and panic has been created, the Supreme Grand Master proposes to put forth an "heir" to the throne, who will slay the dragon and rid the city of tyranny. It is the task of the Night Watch – Captain Vimes, Sergeant Colon, Corporal Nobbs, and new volunteer Carrot Ironfoundersson – to stop them, with some help from the Librarian of the Unseen University, an orangutan trying to get the stolen book back.

http://www.longplays.org Played by: Mad-Matt Replacement longplay to fix the missing longplay and youtube longplay. Classic point and click adventure with a lot of humour and can be quite a long game. Its more difficult than most as alot of the time the puzzles and their solutions dont make much sense, even when you do solve it usually just by trying every item on everything. I have tried to include as much of the various dialogue trees as I can, but sometimes I still accidentally ask the same questions again in other parts of the video. Other times the music might jump as I edit in some dialogue I originally missed. Its a classic game and I hope I haven't missed to much funny dialogue. I should have gone back and optimised the final act, but I guess it shows you cant combat the dragon...
Soul Music. An animated movie about rock'n'roll and Death, based on Terry Pratchett's 16th Discworld novel. Part 2 of 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x5fy58RXh4&list;=PLqJa0gUZrDbu5ZPwAENx0ScdkjnP1vLKz&ab;_channel=VidarSolaas
Based on the story by Terry Pratchett, this animated feature is fun for all the family. Masterful storytelling and character development, this is a must see for any fans of British comedy, or fantasy animation. Seeing as how Terry will likely not be with us much longer, please share these films, and continue his legacy.
Terry Pratchett's Discworld is a fictional universe in which he has set more than 40 comic fantasy books. It includes some of my all time favourite works of fiction. Further Note: The Discworld audiobooks are voiced by the EPIC Tony Robinson who does a wonderful job of bringing these wacky comedic characters to life. If you're in the mood for an audiobook I cannot recommend these more highly! The Science of Discworld - with Terry Pratchett, Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen at SCIENCE GALLERY, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland in June 2012, as part of Dublin City of Science 2012
Together in one volume, here are the first two Discworld novels, featuring Rincewind the wizard and his Luggage, Twoflower and innocent tourist and Cohen the Barbarian, the world's oldest and greatest hero. And not to mention Death, who's not so bad once you get to know him.

This one has quieter music because that seemed to be all people could say about this. :P Sound editing is not my thing, obviously. X) I hope this one won't hurt your ears. And another note: I cast the voices over the internet, so please excuse any problems you may think there is with the voice acting. I personally think the voice actors did a great job without any in-person directing and I did my best trying to get the sound to be as ungrainy and clear as possible. C: I made this as a little summer project to keep me busy and to try out a few things I learned in my first year of animation. A (fake) trailer for the (non-existent) "Guards! Guards!" movie! Enjoy. :D CAST: Vimes: http://percipientfish.deviantart.com/ Sybil: http://iheartvimes.deviantart.com/ Lupine: ...
