Taipei (/ˌtaɪˈpeɪ/, literally means "North of Tai(wan)"), officially known as Taipei City (Chinese: 臺北市 or 台北市; pinyin: Táiběi Shì; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Tâi-pak Chhī), is the capital city and a special municipality of Taiwan. Sitting at the northern tip of Taiwan, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City. It is about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of the northern port city Keelung. The city is mostly located on the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed bounded by the two relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.
The city proper is home to an estimated population of 2,693,672 in 2009, forming the core part of the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area which includes the nearby cities of New Taipei and Keelung with a population of 6,900,273, the 40th most-populous urban area in the world. The name "Taipei" can refer either to the whole metropolitan area or the city proper.
Taipei is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of Taiwan, and one of the major hubs of the Chinese-speaking world. Considered to be a global city, Taipei is part of a major high-tech industrial area.Railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. The city is served by two airports – Taipei Songshan and Taiwan Taoyuan. Taipei is home to various world-famous architectural or cultural landmarks which include Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, Hsing Tian Kong, Mengjia Longshan Temple, National Palace Museum, Presidential Office Building, Taipei Guest House, Ximending, and several night markets dispersing over the city. Its natural features such as Maokong, Yangmingshan, and hot springs are also well known to international visitors.
Street food is ready-to-eat food or drink sold by a hawker, or vendor, in a street or other public place, such as at a market or fair. It is often sold from a portable food booth, food cart, or food truck and meant for immediate consumption. Some street foods are regional, but many have spread beyond their region of origin. Most street foods are classed as both finger food and fast food, and are cheaper on average than restaurant meals. According to a 2007 study from the Food and Agriculture Organization, 2.5 billion people eat street food every day.
Today, people may purchase street food for a number of reasons, such as to get flavorful food for a reasonable price in a sociable setting, to experience ethnic cuisines, or for nostalgia.
Small fried fish were a street food in ancient Greece, however, Theophrastus held the custom of street food in low regard. Evidence of a large number of street food vendors were discovered during the excavation of Pompeii. Street food was widely consumed by poor urban residents of ancient Rome whose tenement homes did not have ovens or hearths. Here, chickpea soup with bread and grain paste were common meals. In ancient China, street food generally catered to the poor, however, wealthy residents would send servants to buy street food and bring it back for them to eat in their homes.

Taiwan (i/ˌtaɪˈwɑːn/; Chinese: 臺灣 or 台灣; see below), officially the Republic of China (ROC; Chinese: 中華民國; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó), is a sovereign state in East Asia. The Republic of China, originally based in mainland China, now governs the island of Taiwan, which constitutes more than 99% of its territory, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and other minor islands, following its loss of the mainland China territory in 1949 in the Chinese Civil War. This remaining area is also constitutionally called the "Free area of the Republic of China" which is not ruled by the Communist Party of China in Beijing.
Neighboring states include the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the west (mainland China), Japan to the east and northeast, and the Philippines to the south. Taiwan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with a population density of 649 people per km2 in October 2015.Taipei is the seat of the central government, and together with the surrounding cities of New Taipei and Keelung forms the largest metropolitan area on the island.
Night markets or night bazaars are street markets which operate at night and are generally dedicated to more leisurely strolling, shopping, and eating than more businesslike day markets. They are typically open-air markets.
Some well-known night markets exist in Taiwan, but they also exist in many other areas inhabited by ethnic Chinese such as Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Thailand, Philippines and Chinatowns worldwide.
Taiwan hosts numerous night markets in each of its major cities. The larger and more formal of these markets might take place in purpose-built marketplaces while smaller or more informal ones tend to occupy streets or roads that are normal thoroughfares by day. The temporal night markets (ones that are not housed in any permanent structure) are actually consistent in their location; in most large cities, they are on a smaller street parallel and close (a block or two away) to the primary street of that city. Though the temporal night market stalls appear at night and then vanish by day, the vendors usually return to the same location the next evening. Night markets do not close, but the individual stalls may randomly take days off due to holidays, family illness, etc. Most temporal stalls within a night market have white canvas tops and bright lights. This gives the temporary night markets a fantastical, carnival-like atmosphere.
Taipei 101 (Chinese: 臺北101 / 台北101) – stylized as TAIPEI 101 and formerly known as the Taipei World Financial Center – is a landmark supertall skyscraper in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan. The building was officially classified as the world's tallest in 2004, and remained such until the completion of Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2009. In 2011, the building was awarded the LEED platinum certification, the highest award according to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, and became the tallest and largest green building in the world.
Taipei 101 was designed by C.Y. Lee and Partners and was constructed by Samsung C&T and KTRT Joint Venture . Construction on the 101-story tower started in 1999 and finished in 2004. The tower has served as an icon of modern Taiwan ever since its opening. The building was architecturally created as a symbol of the evolution of technology and Asian tradition. Its postmodernist approach to style incorporates traditional design elements and gives them modern treatments. The tower is designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes. A multi-level shopping mall adjoining the tower houses hundreds of stores, restaurants and clubs. Fireworks launched from Taipei 101 feature prominently in international New Year's Eve broadcasts and the structure appears frequently in travel literature and international media.
I have always loved travelling. I was lucky enough that from a young age, my parents took us all over the place, instilling in us a sense of larger spaces and broadened horizons. As I grew up, I became more independent in my travels and tried to figure out ways to do it more. From learning Spanish in Salamanca to purposefully getting 6 month summer jobs in places I wanted to explore further. I became accustomed to getting lost and just wondering the streets, figuring out where would be the next good meal or when I would stumble onto some secret only locals whispered about. Getting lost was second nature back then. The only resources we had were over-read guide books that by the time you reached their recommendations, the waiters would push their best sellers down your throats. So we h...

In recent decades, Taiwan has transformed itself into one of Asia's premier travel destinations. It's easy to fall in love with this city. The aroma of street food fills the air. Scooters and bicycles rule the streets. And surrounded by nature, tranquility is never more than a bus ride or hike away. Start your day at the Longshan Temple, the spiritual heart of Taipei. Taiwan's political heart is the district of Zhongshan, home to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, 228 Peace Park and the National Taiwan Museum. Hop on Taipei's excellent MRT and head to the National Palace Museum, home to the world's greatest collection of Chinese art and antiquities. Taipei's streets are a treasure trove too. Enjoy the blooms at the flower markets. Hunt down bargains in giant department stores and cr...

With over 2000 temples and shrines, Tainan is also known as The Kyoto of Taiwan. Highlights include the Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple and the Confucian Temple. (Oh no, plastic surgery wasn't invented yet) Our world had largely recovered from WorldWar II, however Space Race had just begun. There's war in the heavens
Rebellion on high
the son of the morning
Descends from a black sky
Severed and broken
His wings burned to dust
His coverings of diamonds and gold
In a moment in time dissolve to rust
Thunder and lightning
Shatter the night
The dragon of darkness
Appears cursed by the keeper of the light
The dark is chosen
The scroll has been sealed
Hidden in verses of prophets
His face is revealed
Songs of glory
Shout across the land
I can take you there
Child of mine, take my hand
Down through the ages
The story's been told
The daughter of wisdom
Beguiled by the serpent of old
Born into sin in a valley of thorns
Torn from enchantment and
Tossed into the eye of the storm
Heaven's garden
Made by God for man
This is paradise
Child of mine, take my hand
Glory to glory
Sin after sin
The rider of death
Pushes on to the place where
The battle must begin
Songs of glory
Shout across the land
This is paradise
Won't you take my hand
Heaven's garden
Made by God for man
This is paradise
Child of mine, take my hand
Oh, take my hand
