An estimated two million people met to celebrate Easter according to the rites of the Zion Christian Church, one of the richest and strongest of the All Black churches that are now growing in power in South Africa. Black nationalists have attacked the Church for its alleged support of the Pretoria government's policies, including the bitterly- criticised Black Homelands policy. While leaders, for their part, welcome its moderation, but hope that with its 3.5 million membership and tight internal discipline, it will never swing to the Left.
