Andrew Wight (14 November 1959 – 4 February 2012) was an Australian screenwriter and producer best known for his 2011 film Sanctum. He produced over 45 films including television documentaries, live television specials and 3D IMAX films. His credits include Ghosts of the Abyss, Aliens of the Deep and Expedition: Bismarck. Andrew Wight has been honored with the Australian Geographic Society Spirit of Adventure Awards in 1989.
On 4 February 2012, he was killed in a helicopter crash at Jaspers Brush near the town of Berry in New South Wales, Australia. The crash also claimed the life of American filmmaker Mike deGruy.
Andrew grew up on the family farm "Tarqua" near Harrow in Western Victoria, and attended Hamilton College as a boarder between 1972 and 1977. It was here that he developed a taste for caving, exploring the nearby Byaduk Caves network of lava caves, under the direction of his Chemistry teacher, accompanied by a few other close school friends. In 1988, he eventually went on to attempt a record cave dive in Pannikin Plains Cave on the Nullarbor Plain, where flash floods turned the expedition into a life-or-death adventure. This was captured on film by his support team, and eventually published as Nullarbor Dreaming. This short film launched his career as an international film-maker and culminated in him becoming James Cameron's right-hand man on many 3D and other film projects. Sanctum was inspired by his Nullarbor experience.
James Francis Cameron (born August 16, 1954) is a Canadian filmmaker, director, producer, screenwriter, inventor, engineer, philanthropist, and deep-sea explorer. He first found major success with the science fiction action film The Terminator (1984). He then became a popular Hollywood director and was hired to write and direct Aliens (1986); three years later he followed up with The Abyss (1989).
He found further critical acclaim for his use of special effects in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). After his film True Lies (1994) Cameron took on his biggest film at the time, Titanic (1997), which earned him Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Film Editing.
After Titanic, Cameron began a project that took almost 10 years to make: his science-fiction epic Avatar (2009), which was in particular a landmark for 3D technology, and for which he received nominations for the same three Academy Awards. In the time between making Titanic and Avatar, Cameron spent several years creating many documentary films (specifically underwater documentaries) and co-developed the digital 3D Fusion Camera System. Described by a biographer as part scientist and part artist, Cameron has also contributed to underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies. On March 26, 2012, Cameron reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean, in the Deepsea Challenger submersible. He is the first person to do this in a solo descent, and is only the third person to do so ever.
Alister Grierson (born 1969) is an Australian film director and scriptwriter.
Born in Canberra, he completed his secondary schooling at Canberra Grammar, graduated in Economics and Arts from the Australian National University and studied Japanese in Tokyo. As an under 18 Australian Rules player, he represented the ACT in the Teal Cup but later switched codes to Rugby, playing 1st grade both for his school and the ANU. Whilst at university, his interest in film-making developed, and he later gained a Master of Arts in Directing at AFTRS. He has shot 15 short films winning three Tropfest awards and is the director of the feature film, Kokoda, which he co-wrote.
In 2009 Grierson was invited to the Avatar set during shooting by James Cameron, and was selected to direct a 3D cave-diving drama Sanctum, using the Cameron-developed Fusion Camera System. The script is inspired by the near-death experience of one of the writers, Andrew Wight, who was trapped in a cave collapse under the Nullarbor Plain. It was shot at Warner Roadshow Studios on the Queensland Gold Coast, and the film opened 4 February 2011. By mid-March the film had joined the top ten Worldwide Box Office Results (Australian Films): All Time, in ninth position. The worldwide gross had reached $108,943,221 by 19 October 2011.
Andrew is the English form of a given name common in many countries. In the 1990s it was among the top ten most popular names for boys in English-speaking countries. In Italian, the equivalent to "Andrew" is "Andrea", though "Andrea" is feminine in most other languages. "Andrew" is frequently shortened to "Andy" or "Drew". The word is derived from the Greek: Ανδρέας, Andreas, itself related to Ancient Greek: ἀνήρ/ἀνδρός aner/andros, "man" (as opposed to "woman"), thus meaning "manly" and, as consequence, "strong", "courageous", and "warrior". In the King James Bible, the Greek "Ἀνδρέας" is translated as Andrew.
In 2000, the name Andrew was the second most popular name in Australia. In 1999, it was the 19th most common name, while in 1940, it was the 31st most common name. Andrew was the first most popular boys name in the Northern Territory in 2003 to 2015 and continuing. In Victoria, Andrew was the first most popular name for a boy in the 1970s.
Andrew was the 20th most popular name chosen for male infants in 2005. Andrew was the 16th most popular name for infants in British Columbia in 2004, the 17th most popular name in 2003, and the 19th most popular name in 2002. In 2001, it was the 18th most common name. From 1999 – 2003, Andrew was the sixth most often chosen name for a boy.

Peter Wight...........Rothko William Oxborrow...Joe Written by Andrew Bridgmont Directed by Katie Read Designed by Gwen Turner Lighting by Mark Dymock Produced by Damont Productions and Sally Vaughan The Rothko play. "Then I saw them. All around me. They just seemed to appear. Pushing through the half-light. The place was full of them. This glow. I thought they were angels. Miracle paintings." Red on Black takes place in the New York studio of Mark Rothko, one of the most powerful painters of the twentieth century. The arrival of Joe, a young journalist, marks the beginning of a subtle psychological dance in which love and territory become tragically confused.
The time has come for you to sit this out
To fit inside your mold
Would be to sell myself short
This ground we tread upon
(We turn the pages left to right)
Is now filling up to our necks
(We see everything)
This ground we tread upon
(We turn the pages left to right)
Is filling up to our necks
(We see everything)
Oh, my story's growing and growing, it is
(On my last request)
Don't make me feel so contradicting
There's no room for cheating and being yourself
Failure leaves such a bitter taste in their mouth
And on the last hour
We write so many new chapters again
And on the outside
Where there are no surprises
This ground we tread upon
(We turn the pages left to right)
Now filling up to our necks
(We see everything)
Oh, it's getting longer and longer, come on
To see it through their eyes
Would bring me so much closer
You can do this night after night after night
Failure leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth
Taste and see, I swear I know what's good
Be still and know that they won't lie to you
Every single time you're facing lies
This ground we tread upon
(We turn the pages left to right)
Is now filling up to our necks
Come on, this ground we tread upon
(We turn the pages left to right)
Is now filling up to our necks
(We see everything)
We see, we see, we see everything
We see, we see, we see everything
I know why you never take your eyes off from me
I've used my lungs for everything but breathing
I know why you never take your eyes off from me
I've used my lungs for everything but breathing
I find myself dried up in this conversation
So pull me out, pull me aside
I find myself dried up in this conversation
So pull me out, pull me aside
This ground we tread upon
(We turn the pages left to right)
This ground we tread upon
(We see everything)
This ground we tread upon
(We turn the pages left to right)
This ground we tread upon
