Severe Weather Warning
for DAMAGING WINDS
For people in parts of East Gippsland, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:46 pm Monday, 11 September 2017.
A trough over western Victoria will move slowly eastward across the State during Tuesday.
DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are expected over the Alpine parts (above 1200 metres) of the East Gippsland, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts Monday night and into Tuesday.
Winds are expected to ease during the late afternoon and early evening on Tuesday as the trough passes through the area.
Locations which may be affected include Mt Baw Baw, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller.
A wind gust to 87 km/h was recorded at Mount Hotham at 10:34pm.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AEST Tuesday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
