*Although the red labels bear a date of 1965, the earlier silver / blue labels (which must be early sixties (1962 at most) do not have a date on them. So this 1965 date is an error.

Magic Marmalade 5th Sep 2017		This is certainly on my wants list, as the only Oistrakh I have is a David and Igor Deutsche Grammophon of Benda's two violins and a piano, which I regularly listen to... so a Columiba SAX of both or either Oistrakh performances - any labels - will feature very highly on my "Yippieee!!!!"-meter should I find one :) I can't see a blue / silver labelled copy of this that has featured recently on ebay, and hence the last one that did, hit the six thousand mark, and this scarcity is pulling the red label values up too now. (I don't really think there's much of a real difference in terms of quality of the vinyl, or what's pressed on it, to be honest, based on my findings with HMV gold / white - red label comparisons >both EMI labels, so probably made at the same place with the same goo<)
PhilMH 5th Sep 2017		Hi MM, I too was puzzled by the 1965 date, unless this was deleted and reissued sometime between those two years, and whoever did the label copy for the 1965 red label issue didn't understand the concept of "recording first published"? Anyway, there are original stereo and mono 1960 issues in Discogs too, but they were both showing 1959 before I fixed them! (Ditto the Australian stereo issue, which for some reason has a completely different front cover).
Magic Marmalade 5th Sep 2017		Just done a little digging on popsike and ebay, and it does indeed exist with silver / blue labels, although these have no date on the labels, but this still places this issue more on the 1960 range... so I'd be confident in changing the date to 1960, what with the accumulated weight of evidence to the contrary of what's printed on these labels. (Those silver / blues fetch £1000 -£6000! - the reds do a nice £100+ though.) Has to be more than a simple typo though, as that date is on both side labels here (!?)
Magic Marmalade 5th Sep 2017		I don't understand how they could put a 1965 date on something released in 1960? ...I can see how a 1960 date could be on a 1965 issue, but the other way around? That means this wasn't legally covered by copyright and patent for five years so a simple mistake on Columbia's part (?) This could mean there are copies out there with a different (corrected) date on. (And come to think of it, if it is 1960, isn't it possible contender for a blue /silver label set, or was that change made in 1959 - would explain why it's so difficult to find blue / silvers, only having been produced for one year?)
PhilMH 5th Sep 2017		Although the labels say (P) 1965, this album under this catalogue number (and its mono equivalent) were first released on April 8th, 1960, as the uploaded front cover of the April 1965 Gramophone shows. Correction will be requested. EDIT: corrected typo from=>front
