Padmini

Padmini in Sanskrit means "She who sits on the lotus", so literally it refers to Hindu Goddess Lakshmi. It may also refer to:

Rani Padmini

Rani Padmini (Padmavati) (Hindi: पद्मिनी) (died 1303 CE ), was the queen of Chittor (Hindi: चित्तौड़), the wife of King Rawal Ratan Singh and the daughter of the contemporary Sinhala king. Rani Padmini was renowned across Indian land for her bewitching beauty.

There is no historical evidence that Rani Padmini actually existed.

She features in Padmavat, an epic poem written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540 CE. This is the first written reference to Rani Padmini, occurring approximately 240 years after the events described in it.

Early life

Padmini or Padmavati spent her life in Singhal under the care of her father Gandharvsen and mother Champavati. Padmini had a talking parrot named "Hiramani". Her father arranged a swayamvara and invited all the Hindu kings and Rajputs to ask for her hand (request to marry her by showing their eligibility). Malkhan Singh, a king from a small state came to her swayamvara to marry her. King Rawal Ratan Singh of Chittor who had another queen Nagmati, also went to Singhal, defeated Malkhan Singh and married Padmini as the winner of the swayamvara. He returned to Chittor with his beautiful second queen Padmini.

Padmini Kolhapure

Padmini Kolhapure (Marathi: पद्मिनी कोल्हापुरे; born 1 November 1965) is an Indian actress who appeared primarily in Bollywood films during the 1980s. She made her television debut portraying Pallavi Modi in the Sony Entertainment Television India series Ekk Nayi Pehchaan.

Early life

Padmini Kolhapure was born second among the three daughters of Pandharinath Kolhapure, a professional musician, by his wife Anupama Kolhapure. Her younger sisters are the former actress Tejaswini Kolhapure, and Shivangi Kapoor, wife of actor Shakti Kapoor and mother of actress Shraddha Kapoor.

Padmini's family belongs to the Gomantak Maratha Samaj, the major Devadasi community of Maharashtra state, whose ancestral vocation is the performing arts (singing and dancing). The family took the surname "Kolhapure" because they hailed from Kolhapur. Padmini's father, Pandharinath Kolhapure, was a talented vocalist and Veena player. He was the son of Master Krishna Rao (sometimes referred to as Krishnarao Kolhapure), an exponent of Natya Sangeet who had enjoyed the patronage of the Baroda Durbar. Pandharinath's mother was the sister of Master Deenanath Mangeshkar, and the natural sister of Balwantrao Abhisheki, the father of vocalist Jitendra Abhisheki. Thus, Padmini is a niece of legendary singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle. Indeed, the two families has always enjoyed close ties. Master Krishna Rao and his brother-in-law Master Deenanath Mangeshkar, together with Chintamanrao Kolhatkar, had once founded their own theatre troupe known as "Balwant Mandali," which however met with only moderate success. Padmini's mother, Anupama Kolhapure, was born into a Konkani-speaking Saraswat Brahmin family belonging to Mangalore in Karnataka. She formerly used to work as ground staff with Air India.

Real Story

Real Story was a current affairs programme which aired on the British television channel, BBC One at 19:30 GMT weekly on Mondays. It was hosted by Fiona Bruce who was also presenter of Crimewatch. The programme was edited by Dave Stanford and produced by Mike Lewis.

It focused on the weeks big stories such as health problems and political views. Fiona Bruce often met some of the victims of the main problem being discussed for use on the programme. The programme was considered a BBC version of ITV1's popular programme Tonight With Trevor McDonald which focuses on similar subjects.

When Real Story launched on 10 March 2003, the BBC's then head of Current Affairs, Peter Horrocks, called it "a valuable addition to our story telling capacity - popular current affairs, but with BBC values."

On 17 November 2006, the BBC announced that Real Story was to be axed, to make way for The One Show.

Assange said on Twitter he contacted Trump Jr. recommending the email release, even suggesting the release should take place via WikiLeaks, the report said.
