Volkswagen
Volkswagen (VW; German pronunciation: [ˈfɔlksˌvaːɡŋ̍]) is a German car manufacturer headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. Established in 1946, Volkswagen is the top-selling and namesake marque of the Volkswagen Group, the holding company created in 1975 for the growing company, and is now the second-largest automaker in the world.
Volkswagen has three cars in the top 10 list of best-selling cars of all time compiled by the website 24/7 Wall St.: the Volkswagen Golf, the Volkswagen Beetle, and the Volkswagen Passat. With these three cars, Volkswagen has the most cars of any automobile manufacturer in the list that are still being manufactured, which includes model names that span multiple revisions and generations.
Volkswagen translates as "People's Automobile" in German. The company's current international slogan is "Volkswagen". In North America, the name is very Americanized: Vokes-wagon.
History
1932–1938: People's Car project
Volkswagen was originally created in 1936 by the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront). It was originally made by a group of labour. In the early 1930s, the German auto industry was still largely composed of luxury models, and the average German could rarely afford anything more than a motorcycle. As a result, only one German out of 50 owned a car. Seeking a potential new market, some car makers began independent "peoples' car" projects – the Mercedes 170H, Adler AutoBahn, Steyr 55, and Hanomag 1.3L, among others.

The Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (Ministerie van Verkeer en Waterstaat; V&W) was a Dutch ministry responsible for the Dutch system of water management, public and private transport and infrastructure. As of 2010, it is now part of the new Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.

This is the new Volkswagen Tiguan!
VW’s ever-popular mid-sized SUV has had a facelift, and Mat’s about to find out what’s changed and whether it can compete with competitors like the Peugeot 3008 and Skoda Kodiaq.
When it comes to the design, there are several changes over the previous edition. We’ve got our hands on the R-Line edition, which has a few sportier elements than the entry-level car. Up front, there’s a full-length light bar, and it also comes with an aggressive lower bumper and some real vents. Along the side this edition comes with black window surrounds, contrasting door mirrors and black roof bars. At the back, there’s another full-length light bar and (thankfully!) no fake exhausts to be found anywhere!
There are several updates on the inside too. This R-Line edition comes with ambient lights built into the dash on the passenger side, and this car is also specced with an upgraded infotainment screen! It’s a super clear display, although unfortunately, it can be a bit laggy at times. The climate controls are also managed through the screen as well. There’s a large digital driver's display, and the gear selector has moved to a stalk on the steering wheel.
There are a couple of engine options available. The entry-level is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 130hp, while another 1.5-litre turbo petrol can put down 150hp. There’s one diesel available - a 2-litre turbo diesel that creates 150hp. There are also two plug-in hybrids available - both use the 1.5-litre turbo petrol, with one creating 204hp, and one creating 272hp. These cars come with a 20kWh battery pack that can drive on electric power alone for up to 77 miles!
The Tiguan starts at £34,000, rising to up to £48,000 for the top-of-the-range edition. So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

This is the new Volkswagen Tiguan!
VW’s ever-popular mid-sized SUV has had a facelift, and Mat’s about to find out what’s changed and whether it can compete with competitors like the Peugeot 3008 and Skoda Kodiaq.
When it comes to the design, there are several changes over the previous edition. We’ve got our hands on the R-Line edition, which has a few sportier elements than the entry-level car. Up front, there’s a full-length light bar, and it also comes with an aggressive lower bumper and some real vents. Along the side this edition comes with black window surrounds, contrasting door mirrors and black roof bars. At the back, there’s another full-length light bar and (thankfully!) no fake exhausts to be found anywhere!
There are several updates on the inside too. This R-Line edition comes with ambient lights built into the dash on the passenger side, and this car is also specced with an upgraded infotainment screen! It’s a super clear display, although unfortunately, it can be a bit laggy at times. The climate controls are also managed through the screen as well. There’s a large digital driver's display, and the gear selector has moved to a stalk on the steering wheel.
There are a couple of engine options available. The entry-level is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 130hp, while another 1.5-litre turbo petrol can put down 150hp. There’s one diesel available - a 2-litre turbo diesel that creates 150hp. There are also two plug-in hybrids available - both use the 1.5-litre turbo petrol, with one creating 204hp, and one creating 272hp. These cars come with a 20kWh battery pack that can drive on electric power alone for up to 77 miles!
The Tiguan starts at £34,000, rising to up to £48,000 for the top-of-the-range edition. So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

Volkswagen
Volkswagen (VW; German pronunciation: [ˈfɔlksˌvaːɡŋ̍]) is a German car manufacturer headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. Established in 1946, Volkswagen is the top-selling and namesake marque of the Volkswagen Group, the holding company created in 1975 for the growing company, and is now the second-largest automaker in the world.
Volkswagen has three cars in the top 10 list of best-selling cars of all time compiled by the website 24/7 Wall St.: the Volkswagen Golf, the Volkswagen Beetle, and the Volkswagen Passat. With these three cars, Volkswagen has the most cars of any automobile manufacturer in the list that are still being manufactured, which includes model names that span multiple revisions and generations.
Volkswagen translates as "People's Automobile" in German. The company's current international slogan is "Volkswagen". In North America, the name is very Americanized: Vokes-wagon.
History
1932–1938: People's Car project
Volkswagen was originally created in 1936 by the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront). It was originally made by a group of labour. In the early 1930s, the German auto industry was still largely composed of luxury models, and the average German could rarely afford anything more than a motorcycle. As a result, only one German out of 50 owned a car. Seeking a potential new market, some car makers began independent "peoples' car" projects – the Mercedes 170H, Adler AutoBahn, Steyr 55, and Hanomag 1.3L, among others.
