About: Search for critters in the Western Port Biosphere Reserve and your school could win the Birdsearch Shield!
Biosphere Lifesearch is citizen science in action. This year Lifesearch will run during September 2017 to coincide with Biodiversity Month. The more we know about our natural world, the better we can manage and protect it for the future, one of the core objectives of the Man and the Biosphere program. Lifesearch participants make a valuable contribution to our understanding of life in the Western Port Biosphere. Data collected during Lifesearch is stored on the Atlas of Living Australia’s database. There are prizes for the school which records the most observations, so get involved!

War on Waste Competition
About: ABC Splash is asking students to use their STEAM skills to create solutions to Australia’s waste problems!
Students need to identify and research one waste problem identified in ABC TV’s War on Waste and come up with a 90-second pitch for a solution that has been designed using STEAM thinking (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths). The winner will be interviewed by the ABC about their entry and the interview will be published on ABC Splash.
Entering is easy! Film a 90-second pitch that identifies a waste problem, explains why we need to solve it, describes how the student/s are going to solve it and tells us about their design.

OMG! Film Competition 2017

About: With a pool of over $2,000 in cash and other prizes available to support litter reduction in your school, make sure you’re in the running to win. It’s easy, fun for students and links to Victorian curriculum.
This year’s theme is: “Reducing litter at school and in our community makes a positive impact on our environment. Get creative and make it fun!”
Students will create a film that demonstrates:
- Involving your whole school to reduce litter in your school grounds OR
- Reducing litter outside the school gates in your local community via campaigns such as Take 3 for the Sea, Clean Up Australia Day etc.

Victorian Schools Garden Awards 2017

Victorian Schools Garden Award (VSGA) recognises, rewards and celebrates the gardening achievements of schools, their students and community in existing and newly established school gardens.
There are $35,000 worth of prizes for schools to win by simply entering an online power point application with your school’s gardening achievements. The prizes are in the form of a voucher to be redeemed at a retail nursery which is a member of Nursery and Garden Industry of Victoria (NGIV) or in-kind product prizes such as a Turf Package or Orchard.
A VSGA Presentation Day is held the Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens in late November to celebrate winning schools’ gardening achievements and announce category, State and Kevin Heinze Perpetual Award winners.
