Hyundai i10

The Hyundai i10 is a city car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2007. It replaced the Hyundai Atos in the model line-up and is available only with a five-door hatchback body style.

The second generation of the car was presented in August 2013 and released in early 2014. A slightly larger version, developed for the Asian market, was released in September 2013 as the Grand i10.

First generation (2007–2014)

The first generation i10 had its world premiere on 31 October 2007, in New Delhi, India. It is produced in India at Hyundai's Chennai plant for the domestic and export markets.

In Europe, it has four different versions: Classic, Style, Comfort and Eco Blue Version, with a smaller 1.0-litre engine. All versions come with front electric windows, ABS, air conditioning and an RDS radio/CD player.

Background

Hyundai started development of the i10 to replace the Hyundai Atos, also known as the Santro. The development for the concept was code-named Hyundai PA. The car was targeted primarily at the Indian market and intended for production in India, given the popularity of hatchback subcompacts in the country.

Hyundai

Hyundai Group (Hangul: 현대그룹; hanja: 現代그룹; /ˈhjʌndɛ/) was a multinational chaebol (conglomerate) headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It was founded by Chung Ju-yung in 1947 as a construction firm and Chung was directly in control of the company until his death in 2001.

Following the 1997 East Asian financial crisis and Chung's death, Hyundai underwent a major restructuring and break-up, which reduced the Hyundai Group's business to encompass only container shipping services, the manufacturing of elevators, and tourism. Today, most companies bearing the name Hyundai are not legally connected to Hyundai Group. They include Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Department Store Group, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group and Hyundai Development Company. However, most of the former subsidiaries of the Hyundai conglomerate continue to be run by relatives of Chung. If these companies were considered as forming a single broad family business, then it would remain the largest company in South Korea with enormous economic and political power in the country.

The Kia Picanto is a city car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Kia since 2004. It is also known as the Kia Morning in South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Chile, Kia EuroStar in Taiwan (first generation), Kia New Morning in Vietnam and the Naza Suria or Naza Picanto in Malaysia (first generation). The Picanto is manufactured exclusively at a joint-venture plant with Donghee in Seosan, South Korea.

First generation (2004–2011)

The first generation Picanto was revealed at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was based on a shortened platform of the Hyundai Getz and was 3,495 mm (137.6 in) long, with a five-door hatchback body style. The car was available with a choice of two petrol engines: a 1.0-litre, with 61 hp (45 kW) and 86 N·m (63 lb·ft), or a 1.1-litre, with 65 hp (48 kW) and 97 N·m (72 lb·ft), both with multipoint injection. In Europe, a 1.1-litre three-cylinder diesel engine (based on the Kia Cerato's 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit) was also available, with direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger, the power reaching 75 hp (56 kW) and a torque of 153 N·m (113 lb·ft). The petrol engines had a combined consumption of 5.1 l/100 km (55 mpg_-imp) and 5.2 l/100 km (54 mpg_-imp) respectively, while the diesel used 4.4 l/100 km (64 mpg_-imp). An automatic gearbox (with torque converter) was optional for the petrol units. In some countries, it was sold with a 1.2-litre engine, also used on the newer Hyundai i10.
