On Saturday, May 25th 2007, the Omaha World Herald newspaper made a visit to the Nebraska Renaissance Faire at Scary Acres. Article: Video: Nebraska Renaissance Faire BY GREG CABRERA WORLD-HERALD VIDEOGRAPHER The 5th annual Nebraska Renaissance Faire and Medieval Pageant began its three-day run Saturday with swinging of swords and salutes to the King and Queen. Located on the Scary Acres property on Giles Road, the Faire transformed visitors into villagers and allowed them to experience the sights and delights of the Renaissance time. Several professional performing troupes such as the Royale Pirates of Tortuga, the Nebraska Swordfighters Guild, and the Bashaarat Belly Dancers were on hand as well as blacksmiths, musicians, storytellers and magicians. Watch a video of the Bashaarat Belly Dancers' performance. A new addition to the yearly event was the Pirate Cove Stage. Novelty food and drink along with numerous children's activities and games of skill were also featured. The Nebraska Renaissance Faire and Medieval Pageant is located at 17272 Giles road, just down the intersection of 168th and Giles. It is open through Monday from 11 am until 6 pm. The Landshut Wedding (German: Landshuter Hochzeit) is one of the largest historical pageants in Europe. Countless visitors from all over the world have taken part, or have been spectators of the "Landshuter Hochzeit 1475", a pageant held in Landshut, Bavaria (Germany). More than 2000 participants in mediaeval costumes bring the festival to life to recreate the Late Middle Ages. It commemorates the wedding between Hedwig (Jadwiga), the Polish King's daughter, and Georg, the son of the Duke of Landshut. Every four years the mediaeval wedding is reenacted, and everyone gets carried away with mediaeval jousting, pageantry, feasting and wedding processions for a short period in the summer.

More than 100 elephants draped in colorful finery will lead thousands of devotees in 10 days (From 07th August 2008 to 17th August 2008) of celebration at this year's Kandy Perahera, one of Buddhism's oldest and biggest annual pageant or procession, all happened every year since about 300 AD! Sri Lanka's hill capital, Kandy, will once again host the festival honouring Lord Buddha's Sacred Tooth Relic - enshrined in the city's main temple - and showcase temple chiefs, Kandyan dancers, fire-juggling acrobats, whip crackers, palanquins, musicians and torchbearers who follow the elephants through the streets in spectacular processions. Elaborately adorned elephants, in rows of three, sway to the beat. At times, with their trunks linked or tucked away, it almost appears as if they are joining in the dance. Flanking the entire procession are the torch-bearers. Walking with measured step, they steadfastly carry the flaming long wooden poles, their golden-orange glow tinting the scene with magic light. In the majestic St. Martin's Church the Archbishop of Salzburg conducted the ceremony. The bridal procession then moved through the spacious main street (Altstadt) and from the hill the castle 'worthy of a king' greeted them as it does today. This is the finale of The Second Shepherds' Play, part of the Wakefield cycle of medieval mystery plays. Considered perhaps the best of that cycle, this is where the shepherds arrive to bear witness to the birth of Jesus after their run in with a bumbling wizard and an angel. I directed this as a "senior project" back in 2001, and recently discovered this from my archives. Tis the season. Hope ya'll enjoy.
