Little boy fighting for life after near drowning incident at public pool in Glen Waverley

A little boy is fighting for his life after he almost drowned at a public swimming pool in Glen Waverley.

Paramedics were called to Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre on Waverley Road about 5.30pm following reports of an incident in the water.

The primary-school-aged boy, believed to be six years old, was taken to Monash Medical Centre in Clayton in a critical condition.

He was then transferred to the Royal Children's Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Monash Council CEO Andi Diamond said the boy had been found face down in the children's play pool.

"A lifeguard began CPR immediately," Ms Diamond said. "At the time the boy was playing in the children's pool and not attending a class."

Ms Diamond said she had been in touch with the boy's family and her thoughts and prayers were with them.

Nobody else was injured in the incident.
