Mother! director Darren Aronofsky has apologised to Newtown residents after a Melbourne advertising agency painted over an iconic mural in Sydney's inner west in a bid to advertise his upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence.
After reading reports about the prominent It's like a jungle sometimes artwork being removed, Aronofsky turned to Twitter to say he was "furious" with the advertisement.
Another Star Wars director bites the dust; rumours begin to swirl that James Bond will be married in the next film and one of Sydney's most famous murals was painted over to promote a new Jennifer Lawrence film.

Ad agency apologises after painting over iconic mural
A Melbourne advertising agency has apologised to residents of Sydney's inner west, after they painted over an iconic Newtown mural.
"Just read of ad agency in Sydney breaking #1 graffiti rule," he wrote. "I'm embarrassed and furious. Apologies to [original artist Colin] Bebe and I'll pay to replace piece."

The agency - Fitzroy-based Apparition Media - has apologised for painting over the mural and said it will help restore it. But NSW Greens MP for Newtown Jenny Leong said that wasn't good enough, arguing the apology couldn't be taken seriously while the advertisement remained in place.
By Friday morning the Mother! ad had been painted over in baby blue, with the agency promising the jungle mural will return soon.

"The jungle is returning in collaboration with the original artist," a message on the mural reads. "He has asked to remain anonymous, so please respect his wishes. No profit has been made from this."
Ms Leong has praised Newtown residents for speaking out against Apparition Media's actions.

Sydney's Inner West Council says an investigation into the unauthorised mural is ongoing.
