More than 500 jobs at risk after Perth companies collapse

Two Perth companies working in the construction and electrical sectors have been handed over to liquidators, putting more than 500 jobs in jeopardy.

South Perth civil construction and mining services business Brierty was placed in voluntary administration on Wednesday, according to Business News.

The company, which employed 380 people in WA, had failed to recover from the mining downturn and cost blowouts at a Main Roads project last year.

It said in a statement the decision to fold was made on the back of a number of factors that affected cash generation and profitability.

Last week Brierty announced an estimated loss of $2.9 million for the 2017 financial year.

"The company's directors and management remain committed to working with the administrators to achieve the best possible outcome for all stakeholders, Brierty said.

Balcatta-based electrical, fire and security service provider Global Electrotech also fell in the hands of liquidators after failing to pay mounting debt.

As of August the company accumulated debt standing at $1.21 million, Business News reported on Wednesday.

The company once employed 168 people  and was servicing over 1000 clients with design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of electrical, fire and security systems.
