The Crocodile Hunter is a wildlife documentary television series that was hosted by Steve Irwin and his wife, Terri. The show became a popular franchise due to Irwin's unconventional approach to wildlife. It spawned a number of separate projects, including the feature film The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course and two television spinoffs: The Crocodile Hunter Diaries and Croc Files. The series has been presented on Animal Planet and has been in international syndication on networks worldwide. The series aired 60 episodes during five seasons, from 1996 through 2007.

Stephen Robert "Steve" Irwin (22 February 1962 – 4 September 2006), nicknamed "The Crocodile Hunter", was an Australian wildlife expert, television personality, and conservationist. Irwin achieved worldwide fame from the television series The Crocodile Hunter, an internationally broadcast wildlife documentary series which he co-hosted with his wife Terri. Together, the couple also owned and operated Australia Zoo, founded by Irwin's parents in Beerwah, about 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of the Queensland state capital city of Brisbane.
Irwin died on 4 September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming an underwater documentary film titled Ocean's Deadliest. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society ship MY Steve Irwin was named in his honour.
Irwin was born on his mother's birthday to Lyn and Bob Irwin in Essendon, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. He is of Irish descent on his father's side. He moved with his parents as a child to Queensland in 1970, where he attended Landsborough State School and Caloundra State High School. Irwin described his father as a wildlife expert interested in herpetology, while his mother Lyn was a wildlife rehabilitator. After moving to Queensland, Bob and Lyn Irwin started the small Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park, where Steve grew up around crocodiles and other reptiles.

Steve and Terri set off from Australia Zoo at Beerwah on Australias east coast and head west towards Australias red desert interior. While traversing some of the roughest outback terrain Steve and Terri encounter venomous snakes, desert dwelling lizards and some of the most endangered mammals in the world. The journey takes them to Australias most famous geological landmark Ayers Rock.
Steve travels to Irian Jaya (Papua) to meet some wildlife of the jungles in the highlands. Irian jaya highlands are surrounded by clouds and are homes of some Australian influenced creatures, including kangaroos, death adders, tree pythons, and saltwater crocodiles. As someone who lives in Indonesia almost all of his life, I am proud of Steve's arrival in this magnificent isles.
