Maersk Drilling is a drilling rig operator based in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is a subsidiary of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, established in 1972. Maersk Drilling is one of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group's core businesses. As of 2012 it has about 3% of the offshore drilling market. CEO of the company is Claus V Hemmingsen.
Maersk Drilling owns 26 rigs including six ultra-harsh environment jack-ups, six further jack-ups, four semi-submersibles and 10 drilling barge rigs. In the North Sea, Maersk Drilling operate the world's largest and most advanced harsh environment jack-up rigs, the sister rigs Maersk Innovator and Maersk Inspirer at water depths up to 150 metres (490 ft). In addition, the company has ordered four deepwater drillships from Samsung Heavy Industries and two ultra-harsh environment jack-ups from Keppel FELS. The company has announced that it is investing in developing the technology that allows to drill year-round in Arctic.
Maersk Drilling is part of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group - a worldwide organisation with 110,000 employees and offices in 125 countries, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company is listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. On 21 June 1972 Mærsk Storm Drilling Company and Atlantic Pacific Marine Corporation were established with the purpose of purchasing two semi-subs and two barge rigs. These were the very early days of Maersk Drilling. Today, Maersk Drilling’s fleet includes some of the world's most advanced harsh environment jack-up rigs, jack-ups rigs, deepwater semi-submersibles, drilling barges and workover barges.

Jackup leg hit by a boat. Jackup Legs Whether a jackup design involves three or four legs, there are two main types of legs that are used on jackups. The first incorporates open-truss legs into the design that resemble electrical towers. Open-truss legs are made of tubular steel sections that are crisscrossed, making them strong, but lightweight. Jackups can also have columnar legs made of huge steel tubes. While columnar legs are less expensive than open-truss legs to fabricate, they are less stable and cannot adapt to stresses in the water as well as open-truss legs. For this reason, columnar-legged jackups are not used in waters that measure more than 250 feet deep. In addition to their legs, jackups are supported by two different systems of stabilization. Jackup legs are supported o...

A typical jack up rig has nine jacking assemblies; three assemblies per leg, with one located at each leg chord of the triangularly shaped legs. The Jacking System utilizes the rack and pinion principle and consists of a set of simultaneously operated jacking units, allowing lifting and lowering of jack-up type platforms. Each elevating jacking assembly is provided with four to eight pinions, which operationally engage teeth of racks on the legs. The jacking units are fitted pairs on each side of a rack welded to the leg chord of the rig. The units can be used on square, triangular lattice, or tubular legs.

Semi-submersible rigs make stable platforms for drilling for offshore oil and gas. They can be towed into position by a tugboat and anchored, or moved by and kept in position by their own azimuth thrusters with dynamic positioning. A semi-submersible (semisubmerged ship) is a specialized marine vessel used in a number of specific offshore roles such as offshore drilling rigs, safety vessels, oil production platforms, and heavy lift cranes. They are designed with good stability and sea keeping characteristics. Other terms include semisubmersible, semi-sub, or simply semi. Offshore drilling in water depth greater than around 520 meters requires that operations be carried out from a floating vessel, as fixed structures are not practical. Initially in the early 1950s monohull ships were used...
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (also referred to as the BP oil spill, the BP oil disaster, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and the Macondo blowout) began on 20 April 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico on the BP-operated Macondo Prospect. It claimed eleven lives and is considered the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry, an estimated 8% to 31% larger in volume than the previously largest, the Ixtoc I oil spill. Following the explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, a sea-floor oil gusher flowed for 87 days, until it was capped on 15 July 2010. The US Government estimated the total discharge at 4.9 million barrels (210 million US gal; 780,000 m3). After several failed efforts to contain the flow, the well was declared sealed on 19 September 201...

Video mengenai proses decommissioning offshore platfrom
Offshore drilling is a mechanical process where a wellbore is drilled below the seabed. It is typically carried out in order to explore for and subsequently extract petroleum which lies in rock formations beneath the seabed. Most commonly, the term is used to describe drilling activities on the continental shelf, though the term can also be applied to drilling in lakes, inshore waters and inland seas. Offshore drilling presents environmental challenges, both from the produced hydrocarbons and the materials used during the drilling operation. Controversies include the ongoing US offshore drilling debate. There are many different types of facilities from which offshore drilling operations take place. These include bottom founded drilling rigs (jackup barges and swamp barges), combined dril...
Houston Maritime Museum (houstonmaritime.org) May 17, 2016 The Ups and Downs of Jack-Ups with John Stiff The Ups and Downs of Jack-Ups will present some of the history of the jack-up rig, from the early moveable construction barge in the late 19th century, through their early days in the offshore drilling industry to their current place as the prime method for drilling wells in shallow water depths (up to about 500 feet). One jack-up, operated offshore India, became such a national emblem that its image was used on currency and postage stamps. While the talk is primarily the history and different types of jack-ups, it will touch on how the jack-up resists the wind, wave, and current loads that imposed during jacked up operations – and occasionally fail. John Stiff has worked in the offs...
