P.H.F. - SOFT 20/08/2015 https://crystalmagic.bandcamp.com/album/soft As the sun rises on SIDE B of P.H.F.s GRIND STATE (released earlier in 2015 on Crystal Magic) thru the haze a new album, SOFT. Where the night-drive gives way to glistening summerfields of beach-weather pop-bliss, guitars are used as mere-props and time drags like you are finally having the time of your life. Soft-synths ache as the cassette-tape wrinkles its way forward through your parents’ cars’ tape deck, small speakers rattle and P.H.F. reads your journal aloud in the backseat rolling spliffs out of your dearest confessionals. SOFT extends the narrative of the late half of GRIND STATE bleeding into the following day, packing away the guitars in favour of sympathetic-synth pads and turbulent laptop-case hating bass. Ten tracks of heart-rending rear-vision mirror gazing, reflecting on a moment passed, looking for an escape and drifting out of angst into longing, luv and losing over again. Saturated and sunburnt synth-pop; the soundtrack to the blinding white-out of staring wistfully at last-nights rain steaming on the new-day’s asphalt . P.H.F. has taken his penchant for blistering pop-punk and dragged it through the communal bong, sitting poolside, a fading sneer turned smirk dipping sunglasses to revealing the SOFT pink stain of a day in the sun. A day trip away, the gross-comfort of confronting HARD-feelings, the SOFT wet clinging of boardshorts on skin. Feel yourself go soft to P.H.F. while setting fire to your pupils in the dying sun of 2015.
