ACT Policing frustrated with Canberra drivers after intersection operation

ACT Policing said the number of traffic infringement notices issued at intersections had tripled when compared with the same month last year.

In August 2017 police issued 326 tickets for offences such as failing to stop or not complying with traffic light signals.

They issued 107 tickets for the same offences throughout August last year.

Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman called on Canberrans to educate themselves about the rules at intersections.

"The road rules are there for your safety. Half of all collisions occur at intersections because people disregard or do not understand their obligations on the road," he said.

"I urge you to think of your own family and friends and how you feel about putting them at risk. This behaviour on our roads is simply not good enough Canberra."
