The Scottish Professional Football League

The Scottish Professional Football League was formed on June 27, 2013 when The Scottish Football League and The Scottish Premier League merged to create a single body to govern the 42 league clubs in Scotland.

The 2017/18 SPFL Board is made up of Neil Doncaster (CEO), Murdoch MacLennan (Chairman, as of August 1), Karyn McCluskey (non-executive), Ann Budge (Heart of Midlothian), Les Gray (Hamilton Academical), Stewart Robertson (Rangers), Warren Hawke (Morton), Martin Ritchie (Falkirk) and Iain Dougan (Stranraer). 

Ladbrokes Premiership

The 12 clubs play 38 matches, with a split into a top and bottom six after 33 games. At the end of the season, the bottom club is relegated while the club in 11th place face the Championship play-off winners over two legs.

Ladbrokes Championship

The 10 clubs play 36 matches. The champions are promoted to the Premiership and clubs in 2nd, 3rd and 4th enter two-legged play-offs. The winner of 4th v 3rd plays 2nd, with the winner of that tie up against the club finishing 11th in the Premiership. The bottom club is automatically relegated and the 9th-placed club goes into a play-off with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed clubs from League 1.

Ladbrokes League 1

The 10 clubs play 36 matches and the champions are promoted to the Championship. Clubs in 2nd, 3rd and 4th enter the play-offs, along with the club finishing ninth in the Championship. The bottom club is automatically relegated and the 9th-placed club goes into a play-off with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed clubs from League 2

Ladbrokes League 2

The 10 clubs play 36 matches and the champions are promoted to League 1. Clubs in 2nd, 3rd and 4th enter the play-offs, along with the club finishing ninth in League 1. The bottom club enters a play-off with the winner of a play-off between the Highland and Lowland League champions.
