French magazine 'Closer' has been find thousands of euros over publishing photos of the Duchess of Cambridge in 2012. Saskia O'Donoghue reports

Six people associated with French celebrity magazine Closer have been found guilty of invading the privacy of Britain's Duchess of Cambridge when it published topless photos of her in 2012. Media reports saying the court in Paris has ordered the magazine bosses to pay 100,000 euros. Also ordering the owners and then editor to pay 45,000 euros each, the maximum possible fines under French privacy law. The magazine, a celebrtiy gossip publication, published a series of photos of Catherine, wife of Prince William, topless while on holiday in the south of France. At the time, Buckingham Palace called the photo spread a 'grotesque' invasion of the royal couple's privacy. William and Catherine pressed for criminal charges in France to try to prevent wider publication of the pictures taken when the duchess was on the balcony of a private residence. At a previous hearing, one of the photographers being tried said she did not know that the royal couple were on private property when she took the photographs. The French court ruling follows an announcement on Monday that the royal couple are expecting a third child.
