Stray dogs fitted with special maybe making their way onto the Thai streets to fight crime. Francis Maguire reports.

Meet the four-legged furry friends aiming to fight crime on Thai streets. These strays in Bangkok - known as 'the Watchdogs' - have been fitted with a prototype 'smart vest'. A hidden camera is attached to the collar of the dog's vest. It's then activated when its sensors detect aggressive barking. That sends a live streaming video to a central location of what the dog can see in front of them. South Korean based agency Cheil has developed the vest... And hopes it will help Thais view stray dogs in a positive light. SOUNDBITE (Thai) CREATIVE TEAM MEMBER AT CHEIL (THAILAND), PAKORNKRIT KHANTAPRAP, SAYING: "We think that the stray dogs aren't going to be that different to a house dog. We wanted to develop a tool that would show the benefits of these dogs and make people feel that stray dogs can be night-watchers." A charity that looks to help stray dogs - The Soi Dog Foundation - welcomed the idea... But they also said the vest is in an early testing stage. SOUNDBITE (English) MANAGING DIRECTOR OF SOI DOG FOUNDATION, MARTIN TURNER, SAYING: "It's too early a stage to actually say how practical the vests are. We really don't know how they're going to work, if they're going to work properly, if the camera angles that we, camera shots, angles that we get are going to be correct? So, it's going to be trial and error. We're also going to be on a steep learning curve at the start and then we will iron out differences as we move forward." The project began earlier this year and the Cheil company says there's still more development to be done on the vests.... Before we see these canine crime-fighters bringing lawbreakers to justice.
