'Andrews has lost the plot': Karl Stefanovic to boycott relocated Logies

Karl Stefanovic has threatened to boycott the Logies because "Kevin Andrews" has lost the plot.

The Today host was so upset about the 2018 Logies not being held in Melbourne at Crown Casino - and, more importantly, Club 23 no longer being the official after party venue - that he got his politicians mixed up on live television.

Logies is leaving Melbourne

Victorian Government has dumped its bid to host TV's night of nights after 30 consecutive years. Vision courtesy: Channel 7's Sunrise.

"This is a joke of giant proportions," Stefanovic, who is close friends with Crown Casino owner James Packer, said following a live cross to a reporter who had been stationed outside the casino.

"Kevin Andrews has lost the plot completely. For $1 million, the advertising Victoria gets is second to none. You may as well have the Ekka in Perth. You may as well have the Hamilton Island race week on Fitzroy Island."

Melbourne's premier is in fact Daniel Andrews, while the other Andrews is a federal Liberal MP based in Melbourne's east.

But the case of mistaken identity didn't stop Stefanovic, who ploughed on with his rant regardless.

"This is disgusting," he said. "I will be boycotting the Logies until they're back in Melbourne at Crown Casino."

Even Spring Street has had a laugh at the unfortunate slip of the tongue, with state Liberal MP Wendy Lovell arguing the mix-up shows "how irrelevant" Daniel Andrews is.

Opposition leader Matthew Guy, meanwhile, took a more serious line of attack, pointing out the Logies have been in Melbourne for 54 years.

"The Logies belong in Melbourne," he wrote on Twitter. "This state government wastes so much money, the small spend on keeping the Logies here was absolutely worth it."

Earlier this year, NSW tourism minister Adam Marshall launched a campaign for the Logies to be held in regional cities such as Tamworth, Albury and Dubbo. Rumours are also swirling that Queensland could emerge as the new home for television's night of nights.
