The Gulf Stream is a warm Atlantic Ocean current.
Gulf Stream or Gulfstream may also refer to:
Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino is a racetrack and county-approved casino in Hallandale Beach, Florida, in the United States. During its annual meet, which spans December through April, it is one of the most important venues for horse racing in America.
Gulfstream Park was opened on Wednesday February 1, 1939 conducting a four-day meeting. The initial meeting had a crowd of 18,000. In 1944, the track was reopened by James Donn, Sr. for a 20-day meeting in December. The Gulfstream Park Handicap was first run in 1946 and the Florida Derby began in 1952. In that year the clubhouse was built and the Grandstand seating was expanded.
Gulfstream Park introduced turf racing for the first time in 1959.
In 1952 the clubhouse was erected and a new addition was put on the grandstand. It also marked the first running of the Florida Derby. The following year, the Florida Derby became the first stakes in Florida with a $100,000 purse.
The 1955 Kentucky Derby winner and Horse of the Year Swaps set a then world-record of 1:39 3/5 for a mile and 70 yards while carrying 130 pounds in the Broward Handicap. The following year was just as exciting at Gulfstream when Gen. Duke equaled the world record of 1:46 4/5 in defeating Bold Ruler in the Florida Derby.
The Gulf Stream, together with its northern extension towards Europe, the North Atlantic Drift, is a powerful, warm, and swift Atlantic ocean current that originates at the tip of Florida, and follows the eastern coastlines of the United States and Newfoundland before crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The process of western intensification causes the Gulf Stream to be a northward accelerating current off the east coast of North America. At about 40°0′N 30°0′W / 40.000°N 30.000°W / 40.000; -30.000, it splits in two, with the northern stream, the North Atlantic Drift, crossing to Northern Europe and the southern stream, the Canary Current, recirculating off West Africa.
The Gulf Stream influences the climate of the east coast of North America from Florida to Newfoundland, and the west coast of Europe. Although there has been recent debate, there is consensus that the climate of Western Europe and Northern Europe is warmer than it would otherwise be due to the North Atlantic drift which is the northeastern section of the Gulf Stream. It is part of the North Atlantic Gyre. Its presence has led to the development of strong cyclones of all types, both within the atmosphere and within the ocean. The Gulf Stream is also a significant potential source of renewable power generation.
There are now several business jets offering true intercontinental range in excess of six thousand nautical miles. Currently the longest-range jet is Gulfstream’s G650ER, which can fly just over 7,500 nautical miles. You could fly nonstop from Hong Kong to New York or from Los Angeles to Melbourne in Australia. That’s great, but it means you’re going to be in the aircraft for just over fourteen hours, so it had better be comfortable. That’s where cabin designers come in. They can transform aircraft interiors to maximize the use of space, and this can involve breaking up the cabin space into different zones to suit the various needs and preferences of VIP travelers, such as this 4-zone configuration.
Gulfstream’s Director of Interior Design, Tray Crow shows some of the design changes to the G600 cabin mockup. The changes were prompted by Gulfstream’s customer advisory committee, which offers feedback based on real-world use.
I have always been fascinated with the G650. Thanks to Mike Biagini for walking me through it and for videotaping this and Thanks to James Fisher for the amazing capture of the take off and landing in Bora Bora. Hope you guys like this video. This one was originally just for our patrons but decided to release it to the public. I had this footage on my lap top from before my stroke when I was still flying so I decided to put together a little clip just for you patrons! We fly from Fort Worth TX to Aspen Colorado and back in the snow and clouds. Want to help by becoming a Patron? visit: http://www.sailingdoodles.com Would you like to join us on the boat?
Learn about the role of the sea in global warming. The global conveyer belt is part of the large-scale ocean circulation that is driven by differences in the density of the waters. It plays a key role in keeping the climate at balance and Europe warm. Global warming may change it forever with unforeseeable consequences. Short videos, explaining things. For example Evolution, the Universe, Stock Market or controversial topics like Fracking. Because we love science. We would love to interact more with you, our viewers to figure out what topics you want to see. A concatanated video made of animations produced by NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio. Animations include the "Perpetual Ocean" showing ocean surface currents measured between July 2005 and December 2007. Thermohaline animation shows another feature of the global ocean circulation: the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. The region around latitude 60 south is the only part of the Earth where the ocean can flow all the way around the world with no obstruction by land. As a result, both the surface and deep waters flow from west to east around Antarctica. This circumpolar motion links the world's oceans and allows the deep water circulation from the Atlantic to rise in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, thereby closing the surface circulation with the northward flow in the Atlantic. You can l...
