Miyashiro (宮代町, Miyashiro-machi) is a town located in Minamisaitama District, Saitama Prefecture, Japan.
As of 2012, the town has an estimated population of 33,405. The total area is 15.95 km². The average age of Miyashiro residents is 42.
Historically, Miyashiro was created from the joining of neighboring villages in 1955 and thus the commercial and population centers are still centered on these older districts. The origin of the town's name comes from the shrines of the largest villages. "Miya" was taken from Himemiya shrine (姫宮神社) in Himemiya village and "shiro" from Konoshiro shrine (身代神社) in Suka village.
Miyashiro is best known among Tokyoites for its zoological-amusement park complex Tōbu Zoo (東武動物公園, Tōbu Dōbutsu Kōen), which is owned by the Tōbu Group.
There are two train lines that run through the town, which are also owned by Tobu, the Isesaki Line and the Nikkō Line. Miyashiro has three train stations from south to north: Himemiya, Tōbu Dōbutsu Kōen and Wado. Tōbu-Dōbutsu-Kōen Station, named after the zoo, is the main stop and in the heart of Miyashiro.
Aldo Miyashiro Ribeiro (born 1976) is a Japanese Peruvian playwright, screenwriter, and actor. His play Misterio was adapted into a TV miniseries.
The given name Eric, Erik, or Erick is derived from the Old Norse name Eiríkr (or Eríkr in Eastern Scandinavia due to monophthongization). The first element, ei- is derived either from the older Proto-Norse *aina(z) meaning "one" or "alone" or from Proto-Norse *aiwa(z) meaning "ever" or "eternal". The second element -ríkr derives either from *rík(a)z meaning "ruler" or "prince" (cf. Gothic reiks) or from an even older Proto-Germanic *ríkiaz which meant "powerful" and "rich". The name is thus usually taken to mean "one ruler", "autocrat", "eternal ruler" or "ever powerful", "warrior", and "government".
The most common spelling in Scandinavia is Erik. In Norway, another form of the name (which has kept the Old Norse diphthong) Eirik is also commonly used. In Finland, the form Erkki is also used. The modern Icelandic version is Eiríkur, while the modern Faroese version is Eirikur. Éric [eʁik] is used in French, and in Germany Eric, Erik and Erich are used.
Although the name was in use in Anglo-Saxon England, its use was reinforced by Scandinavian settlers arriving before the Norman Invasion. It was an uncommon name in England until the Middle Ages, when it gained popularity, and finally became a common name in the 19th century. This was partly because of the publishing of the novel Eric, or, Little by Little by Frederick William Farrar in 1858.
"Gonna Fly Now", also known as "Theme from Rocky," is the theme song from the movie Rocky, composed by Bill Conti with lyrics by Carol Connors and Ayn Robbins, and performed by DeEtta Little (the sister of actor Cleavon Little) and Nelson Pigford. Released in February 1977 with the movie Rocky, the song became part of American popular culture after main character Rocky Balboa as part of his daily training regimen runs up the 72 stone steps leading to the entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia and raises his arms in a victory pose, while the song plays. The song was written in Philadelphia. The song is also often played at sporting events, especially at sporting events in the city of Philadelphia or featuring sports teams from there.
The song (whose lyrics are only 30 words long) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in the 49th Academy Awards. The version of the song from the movie, performed by Conti with an orchestra, hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1977, while a version by jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson hit the top 30. Disco versions by Rhythm Heritage and Current were on the chart at the same time (Conti's own version reveals some early disco influence in the orchestration). Billboard ranked Conti's version as the No. 21 song of 1977. Conti's single was certified Gold by the RIAA, for shipments exceeding one million in the United States. The American Film Institute placed it 58th on its AFI's 100 Years... 100 Songs list. Due to its charting success, in a rarity for a movie soundtrack, "Gonna Fly Now" is on the regular playlist on '70s on 7 on Sirius XM Radio.
