Gnarwolves

Gnarwolves are a British punk rock band, formed in 2011 and based in Brighton, England.

History

Formation and debut EP

Although originally from Cornwall, Gnarwolves formed in the later stages of 2011 in Brighton and by the end of the year released their debut EP Fun Club.

CRU and Funemployed

The band spent much of the next 2 years touring the UK and Europe and in the summer of 2012 and 2013 would release both CRU AND Funemployed respectively. Both EP's would go on to garner wide critical acclaim and praise from mainstream publications such as Kerrang and Rock Sound among many others. The band released a compilation album, Chronicles of Gnarnia, in February 2014 compiled of songs from Gnarwolves first three EPs.

In August 2013, Gnarwolves featured on Mike Davies BBC Radio 1 and performed several tracks recorded in session at the BBC's Maida Vale Studios in London.

Debut album

On July 15, 2014 Gnarwolves announced that their debut album would be called Gnarwolves and would be released on September 15, 2014 through BSM Recordings and Pure Noise Records with Zane Lowe featuring their new single Smoking Kills on his BBC Radio 1 show.

Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)

Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), also known simply as Scary Monsters, is the fourteenth studio album by David Bowie, released in September 1980 by RCA Records. It was his final studio album for the label and his first following the so-called Berlin Trilogy of Low, "Heroes" and Lodger (1977–79). Though considered very significant in artistic terms, the trilogy had proven less successful commercially. With Scary Monsters, however, Bowie achieved what biographer David Buckley called "the perfect balance"; as well as earning critical acclaim, the album peaked at No. 1 in the UK and restored Bowie's commercial standing in the US.

Although the album is commonly referred to as Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), in keeping with the song title, and the album title as written on the front and back covers of the LP is Scary Monsters . . . . . and Super Creeps, the album is identified simply as Scary Monsters on the LP spine and disc label.

Album production

According to co-producer Tony Visconti, David Bowie's method on Scary Monsters was somewhat less experimental and more concerned with achieving a commercially viable sound than had been the case with his recent releases; to that end the composer spent more time on his own developing lyrics and melodies before recording, rather than improvising music in the studio and making up words at the last minute. Aside from one cover, Tom Verlaine's "Kingdom Come", all tracks would be credited to Bowie alone, unlike the 'Berlin Trilogy' where there was an increasing amount of input from his collaborators.

Big Scary Monsters Recording Company

Big Scary Monsters Recording Company (often known simply as Big Scary Monsters or BSM Records) is a British based independent record label. Probably the most well-known acts associated with the label are La Dispute, Minus The Bear, Cursive (band), Gnarwolves, Tall Ships, Kevin Devine, Pulled Apart By Horses, Walter Schreifels and Andrew WK.

In 2011 BSM joined forces with fellow indie labels Holy Roar and Blood & Biscuits to form Pink Mist, an East London-based collective which releases records, promotes regular live shows and blogs about up and coming new bands. In September 2012 Pink Mist was nominated as Best Small Label in the AIM Awards.

History

Big Scary Monsters was started by Kevin Douch whilst still in sixth form.

In Autumn 2006 BSM launched its first sub-label, Alcopop! Records. Alcopop began working with bands such as Johnny Foreigner, Anamanaguchi, Fight Like Apes and others.

2007 saw the label launch a minisite entitled Family Friend which gives users access to free MP3s, exclusive offers and extra content. Also that year, BSM organised a 5-a-side football tournament, taking place at the Linford Christie Sports Centre in London. The tournament still takes place every summer but is now held at Wembley Powerleague, pitting bands, labels, magazines, shops and other music industry teams against one another.

Big Scary

Big Scary is an Australian musical duo formed in Melbourne in 2006, by Tom Iansek and Joanna Syme. The pair have released several EPs and two albums. Their 2013 album Not Art was nominated for the triple j Australian Album of the Year award,AIR Awards Best Independent Album and also for Best Independent Release at the ARIAs.Not Art won the 2014 Australian Music Prize, winning the band $30 000.

By 2013 Iansek had formed a side project, #1 Dads.
