Logies is leaving Melbourne

Victorian Government has dumped its bid to host TV's night of nights after 30 consecutive years. Vision courtesy: Channel 7's Sunrise.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren said the government had withdrawn its bid to host the Logies in 2018.

"It's time to pass on the baton," Mr Eren said.

"We're providing more support than ever before to our flourishing creative and film industry and will continue working hard to secure events that deliver the best possible value for our state."

The awards have been one of the highlights of the Australian television industry calendar, with stars gracing the red carpet each year.

Comedian, radio and television personality Dave Hughes, who has been part of the awards for the last three years, said it was "weird" to see it leave the city.

The announcement received a mixed response on social media with one punter saying it was the "worst thing" to have happened.

However, another said the event was too "tacky" to be held in Melbourne.
