It’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

A time to honour kids with cancer and the community that supports them.

Unbelievably, 70 per cent of Australians are unaware that more kids die from cancer than any other disease in this country.

Yet, this statistic doesn’t surprise Tina, a mother of four from Townsville, whose son Orlando (pictured above) was diagnosed with the disease three years ago.

“People are oblivious to childhood cancer,” said Tina. “It sits in the too-hard basket. People think ‘it’s not going to happen to me’. I know, because that’s exactly what I used to think.”

For the first time, Tina and husband Levi open up to share the gritty-reality of how a cancer diagnosis affects a family.

“As uncomfortable as it is to share our family’s personal and intimate story, we feel the benefit of increasing awareness and ultimately funding, is worth it.”
