Motorcyclist dead after thrown from bike into Brisbane River
A motorcyclist has died after he was thrown from his bike into the Brisbane River on Saturday night.
The rider, 31, was on Ann Street in the city when he lost control around the bend leading to the on ramp towards Coronation Drive about 10.20pm.
The motorcycle crashed into the side barrier, throwing the Gold Coast man over the edge and into the Brisbane River.
Water police searched the area and found the rider near the Queen Street Ferry Terminal.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact police immediately.
Meanwhile, a woman is fighting for her life at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital after her car crashed into a tree at Moreton Bay on Saturday afternoon.
The 34-year-old was driving a Mercedes sedan along Zillman Road at Ocean View when she left the road and crashed into a tree.
Emergency services worked to free the woman from the car, which had been pushed back 10 metres on impact.
She was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with life threatening injuries.
An hour earlier in the Scenic Rim, a woman was thrown from her vehicle after a single vehicle crash at Birnam.
The woman was driving north along Beaudesert Beenleigh Road with three children when the vehicle left the road and rolled “a number of times”, police said.
The driver was thrown from the vehicle and transported by helicopter to a Brisbane hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The children received minor injuries.
The Forensic Crash Unit was investigating.
